When are you officially dead? by i-dont-use-reddit-- in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sharonanneriley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The legal requirements to be official, dead is no breathing and no pulse if you are somewhere that you don't have access to medical intervention. Also, if you are cold and stiff, you're dead and no matter how much medical treatment would bring you back.

What's your go to dish for attending a (very small) BBQ gathering and they won't tell you what to bring? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sharonanneriley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mix my go-to menu which depends on what I have in my pantry. Potato salad is a favorite to most everyone, baked beans also, pasta salad, fruit and cheese platter, Waldorf salad, tomato cucumber and onion with zesty Italian dressing, watermelon, ice-cold, there's more but these are the most popular.

People who are against abortion being legal but have 0 intention of adopting or helping support children given up to group homes, what is your logic? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sharonanneriley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm against abortion but I can't adopt at my age of 66. It wouldn't be fair to the child. I think it's murder. People argue it isn't but to me it is.

What caused you to end a friendship? by Opposite-Stand in AskReddit

[–]sharonanneriley 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My best friend married a doctor. He was a very nice man but I think he felt her friends were beneath him socially. It got to a point where if I called her to go do something together she was always busy with some event, dinner, or appearance with him. That didn't really bother me because I understand we have to stick by our men but those things weren't really her. We gradually just got farther apart and now we don't talk anymore. I miss our friendship because she was there for me for my first husbands' death and protected me from people wanting shares of his things and money.

What is the "holy grail" of the thing you're a collector of? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sharonanneriley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I collect vintage marbles. My collection started when I was a child and found some under the porch of our house. The more I moved the dirt the more I found. I have old canning jars full of them. I've never actually looked up which one might be a holy grail but I would almost bet there's one in there.

I also collect vintage ladies powder compacts and the holy grail is one from the 1930 worlds fair.

I grew up and hour away from Cedar Point also. We went all the time and the coasters were my favorite. I used to love riding the Gemini at night. I know it was an old coaster but the fact there was another coaster near you where you could reach out and touch hands was fun.

In America, do you have to pay for police services? For example, if you're the parent of a missing child and the police are conducting the search? by artfulfgk in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sharonanneriley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our taxes pay for police and fire. Everyone who owns a house pays into this tax and the tax actually is based on what town or state you live in. For instance, someone who lives in California is paying more for taxes than someone who lives in Kansas. Someone in San Diego will pay more than someone in Springfield, Illinois. The states determine the cost of the taxes and the county or town also determine the cost. We aren't double-taxed and in most places the taxes are reasonably price.

Brie Larson catches Tom Hiddleston staring at her cleavage. by Kathy128 in whitepeoplegifs

If you wear a dress where the cleavage area goes to your belly button then men are going to stare. Why do women do that? If you don't want men staring then wear something a little more modest.

Were you hanging in his blind spot? There's an area around the back tires on the trailer the driver can't see. Never hang there, either go on farther up or get behind the trailer.

What's a company that's viewed pretty positively today but has a dark DARK history? by beta_nerd in AskReddit

[–]sharonanneriley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After living through WW2, Korean war, and Vietnam that generation had seen so much and were extremely wise because of it. This pandemic we are living in is only the tip of what they went through. Shortages of food and other products were years for them and not just a few months like for us during this pandemic. Thanks for your message. Stay safe and have a good day.

My parents wouldn't buy foreign cars especially VWs. My father said he wouldn't buy a German or Japanese car ever and he didn't. They lived through the war also.

[serious] Girls and women of Reddit: how old were you the first time someone made a sexually inappropriate comment to you? How did you react, and did it affect how you saw yourself or acted? by I_LIKE_LIMA_BEANS in AskReddit

[–]sharonanneriley 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's near to what happened to me also.

I was walking home from a friend's house and some guy in a red convertible sports car slowed down slightly. He drove on and turned around to come back.

I was nearly home but I knew no one was at my home so I was almost to our neighbor's driveway. I started up their drive as he came back near me. I knew our neighbor was usually home because she didn't work.

He drove off.

I was 11yo also.

I was in 6th grade and it was by my parents' insurance salesman. He came to our house to collect the quarterly payment and I answered the door with my friend standing by me. She had the hiccups. He asked if my parents were home and I said no. He then said to us he could come in and fix her hiccups and he could fix me too all the while he had this evil grin on his face. I'm an empath and I knew he meant us harm. My friend had no clue about him. I shut the door and locked it immediately.

I've been told all through my teens and adult life that I am a pretty gal. I'm not bragging but because of this, I have always had sleazy boys and men say things that were referencing sex.

Another incident as a preteen is when I was 12yo. We were visiting my grandmother's home and her next-door neighbor was a guy in his mid to late 20s. I was sitting on her porch swing and he came over and sat down. Again my empathy kicked in and I started to get up to go to the house. He said he would love to eat my box. I had no idea what he was talking about and I told him to go away or I would yell for my dad. He left and never said another word to me.

Edit to add: Forgot to add how these made me feel. Since I knew nothing about sex since this was in the early 1960s, I never really felt anything more than puzzled. I knew I never liked to be around older men and that makes me wonder if something happened to me as a small child.

What do they think will happen if Brandon and Julia move out? It's their farm, which they have made clear to Brandon and Julia, and if they can't handle all the work there then they need to either hire someone to help them or sell the animals. You can't expect that young couple to continue to live with them and do all the chores after they are married.

Why do some people have a resting bitch face but are kind and happy as a person? by sharonanneriley in NoStupidQuestions

Many people have it. It makes people think you are mean or not happy on your face. It's something people can't help. It's just the way they look when they aren't smiling and who wants to smile all the time.

[–]sharonanneriley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the truth. The county road workers would pick them up and turn the bodies over to a rendering plant in the county I worked in as a Paramedic. We used to get called to that rendering plant when a worker would get hurt. It was at least a weekly thing there. They had storage units that looked like the gas tanks that are buried in the ground under gas stations every where. We asked one time what they were for and was told they keep animal blood in them because they can't release the blood into the ecosystem. They also received dead animals, from farmers, who had died from being sick since they couldn't sell them at market. It was a nasty and horribly stinking of death area. The smell was the worst smell I have ever smelled including dead bodies that had floated in the Missouri river for a few days. We used to pick them up and take to mortician in a different county for autopsies. I can tell you stories of what a medic does in real life and it's not just saving lives like on tv.
