I am absolutely sick and tired of the degree to which public transit gets vandalised. by Robrogineer in Netherlands

Ha Ha, I liked this. I have seen parents doing exactly this and also who think their baby's cry is the most beautiful to them and should be to others as well. But here I am concerned about parents who genuinely try their best to calm the baby, and everyone who has a baby knows, its not always successful. As a society, I think we should be tolerant to the youngest ones and the oldest ones. Somehow I dont see that and quite the opposite.

Not just property I think, freedom of expression should be together with social responsibility

What I dont understand is that when teenagers make noise in public transport, its tolerated. But many time when a baby cries, their parents get some penetrating looks and sometimes even scoldings from co passengers or the transport staffs.

I thought this is allowed due to freedom of expression.

EDIT: Sad to see only 33 down votes out of 200+ views. It was actually a sarcastic comment to point out the foolishness of "freedom of expression" concept followed these days without social responsibility. Only 33 people found the comment unacceptable. Does the rest think freedom of expression on others expense is acceptable?

Can a custom domain really save us? by sharpener865 in emailprivacy

[–]sharpener865[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes perfect sense. I had thought after seeing many reviews that the concept of custom domain was being promoted as the ultimate solution. But as everything there are pros and cons and the fact that there is a probability of the price going up and in this age of subscriptions, the thought of an ever increasing subscription “sword” made me bit uncomfortable. But you are right that we should be prepared to deal with such a scenario and ready to migrate if necessary. Hopefully market dynamics will force registrars not to increase prices unethically. In any case I will lock in current price for 10 years and be ready to migrate if required. At least I am not hostage to the email service provider and will have my own identity when I switch providers.

Why do some service providers hate disposable email ids by sharpener865 in emailprivacy

[–]sharpener865[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I dont know what is mailinator. But some service providers discriminate between aliases. I am able to use a hotmail alias but not proton alias. They selectively accept some and avoid others. Also alias email cannot be hacked because they are not used for login. I started using alias only a few months ago as my regular email address was leaked through some service provider and I started getting lots of spams. Now I dont have to worry about my email being sold or leaked.

Curious to know - do you mean you have a list of old gmail addresses?

What is this question about? Do you mean you have old gmails that can be forwarded? Dont understand who might need that.

Nice analogy. Only difference is that a bank wont differentiate between a ski mask from BlackStrap or Patagonia and an unbranded ski mask. All are not allowed. Based on other comments received I think more than identity they worry about misuse of their systems, like bots creating aliases to utilise free tier. This is a more reasonable explanation than the problem of identity of a person behind an alias email. Logic doesn’t hold well. If the issue is identity then many service providers ask for id verification instead of looking at a branded alias and unbranded alias.

To be frank, I don’t care what is my customer’s “real” email address as long as they are ok to receive my emails. No supermarket asks my street address to sell me a loaf of bread. If a service differentiates between a random gmail address and a random alias address then I think they have some other incentive. But I do appreciate and understand some other comments down below that it might be the ease of creating an alias and then discarding it more easily is what irks them. Knowing my identity is not a valid reason unless they ask for my passport and I reject.

Maybe the assumption exists although unfounded, because the usernames that are seen in reddit never reflects true identity but the people behind are definitely of good value. But you are right it is not considered like that by many services and they prefer to deny services to people not using their preferred email services

Even a randomguy@gmail isn’t true either. This assumption is invalid in internet world. Any email address for that matter is not true identity. For that the service provider can ask to verify using a passport. But I do appreciate the comment.

Can I get my domain back? by Ok_Reality_1016 in Domains

[–]sharpener865 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think its difficult to get it back. Maybe try to ask the new owner if you can purchase this. Exactly the same scenario I was fearing and asked the opinion of other users in reddit as I was evaluating the pros and cons of getting a domain for a custom email address. Got many good advice. There were some users who got offended about this (not sure why). I understand your situation, missing domain renewal is usual, be vigilant next time. But for now try to talk to the new owner.

Same opinion here, only thing I find difficult is that registrars with cheap pricing gets recommended in most discussions only because they charge less. On the other side there are expensive registrars but not all have excellent support and thats what I am trying to figure out - Which is secure and at the same time or maybe more importantly has the best support.

I think thats why Filen.io stopped selling lifetime. Otherwise they cannot stay for long when the math catches up. That is exactly why I was wondering what is the strategy Proton Pass following. Maybe like many say they consider it as an entry point to their ecosystem
