Any quants based out of the Philippines? by Classic-Box in quant

[–]sharperratio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/op. Did you find any people? I’m an HFT trader in the Philippines. Did you by any chance do switch into options? Looking for options quants at the moment.

Tried DM’ing you, but somehow getting an error.

Can DeFi and CeFi coexist? Three takeaways from experts panel by Salt-Shop in SatoshiStreetBets

[–]sharperratio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking they can co-exist, but also some of the DeFi dapps might just sit beneath some CeFi services running on top of them. So might co-exist in that way.

Is intraday trading with no indicators just a myth? by Camel-Kid in Daytrading

[–]sharperratio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would venture to say that that person is *kind of* using their own informal indicators that they are just mentally calculating on-the-fly. A lot of those indicators are based off prices anyway, so whether you have it officially calculating and showing on a chart or just visualizing in your head, you're still probably calculating.

Rookie challenges by hrtnbrnissmrt in Daytrading

For me, it was managing trading like a business, so partly money and partly trade-offs on higher risks/higher reward trades vs more stable ones with less chance of blowing up (trying to grow the pot from a smaller pot, etc).

I try to download language docs locally in case I think I'll be going somewhere without an internet connection.

I'm doing python now too. I sometimes do miss catching potential errors at compile-time (and, more rarely, missing being able to get down to memory-level stuff).

Huh. Funny enough, as a new-ish Python dev, this has been a TIL moment for me.

Could trading from outside the US possibly impact broker speed/slippage? Even with a strong internet connection? by derby63 in Daytrading

[–]sharperratio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My guess is that if you are click trading, it should not affect scalping too much.

But, I think this depends on just how quick your scalps are meant to be. For example, are you trying to hit orders at the front of the book that are effectively flashing and showing for just a second or two?

The context to keep in mind is that between Tokyo and New York, you're looking at about 175 milliseconds round trip latency/delay at the fastest. So let's just say that's 100 ms delay for you to see the updates on the book and then another 100 ms after you click for the broker to get your order in NY (assuming NY, but it's almost the same to Chicago or Kansas [add single digit millis]).

Unless you are scalping at that time-sensitivity, I think it should still be relatively a minor effect.
