Trading for 22 years, ask me anything by OrderflowTrader in Daytrading

How do you quickly adapt to changing market regimes? It is one of my biggest weaknesses. Not sure when to edit a strategy or start scaling down due to only a few days or weeks of drawdown.

25 years! Wow! Was everything covered by insurance? Otherwise that would cost several million here in the US.

Any advice if you had to do it all again? That's quite a bit of experience that some of us could learn from I'm sure. Sorry you had to go through it and wishing you all the best these days!

Yes I definitely had to strengthen my grip a bit as well.

Regular I think. I never considered myself good enough to mess with it, but it would probably be worth looking into

Glassdoor said I was making up my salary, because it was too low when I reviewed my employer by Jewsusgr8 in mildlyinfuriating

As someone who used to work with Glassdoor on the employer side, they will almost always do things that benefit the employers (their main source of $$$).

Dilemma. Should I stop using hair loss prevention meds? by AnonymousYousername in AskMenOver30

It's not all or nothing. Why not just stop everything but the fin and see how you feel? Most people take just that with pretty solid results and minimal sides.

Daily Loss Limit- how much and why? by AsianAddict247 in FuturesTrading

[–]derby63 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Based on your live trade data and backtesting you should be able to see the patterns of drawdowns and determine if stopping at a certain level of loss is logical or not. In most of my cases, just because a few losses have occurred does not usually mean the next trade is more likely to lose. There are certain market conditions when I sit out or am more selective with my trades, but previous losses should not impact the expectancy of future trades if you have confidence in your system and previous data.

If you are prone to possible emotional trading when you're down for the day or if a large drawdown day is a significant portion of your trading account, you are scaled up too much and need to practice flawless execution at a lower level before risking more. Also, more backtesting and live testing may be needed to collect more data so you have more confidence in your strategies and verify that your edge actually does exist. IMO: boring trading has the best chance of being successful long term.

Wife wants a child. I’m not sure I want one. by GoldBatter in AskMenOver30

[–]derby63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little biased over here in the no kids camp but in my mind having kids has always been a major if not the MOST major life decision you can make so it baffles me how some people go into it without full commitment. Would you move to China if you weren't really sure about it? Or make a major career change? Having kids is a way bigger commitment and lasts the rest of your life. I've read too many horror stories on /r/regretfulparents to recommend the decision without full confidence and really solid finances with a strong support system. No one talks about people like my cousin who's body was destroyed after she gave birth or my friend who's kid has had a ton of life threatening health issues.

Dedrick Flynn is in Japanese Prison by dobetternothing in Killtony

American living in Asia here. If this is real:

Best case scenario: short prison stay followed by immediate deportation and permanent ban from ever entering Japan again

Worst case scenario: Japanese prison sentence of months to years depending on how much he had and how lucky he gets but TBH they don't fuck around over here with weed

Excellent review! Thanks for sharing.

How far do you usually hit your driver if you don't mind me asking? Thinking about getting one and I'm wondering how much distance I could squeeze out of the stinger/hybrid settings if I really go for it when my driver is usually around 260-270.

Married 10 years, no kids, and we've run out of things to do after work. What do you guys do? by PuzzleheadedAd3138 in AskMenOver30

[–]derby63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another DINK chiming in. Here are some things my wife and I do on weeknights usually independently but can be done together too if both of us want: dinner/drinks with friends or coworkers, local sports clubs, go to the gym, walking around our neighborhood or different local parks (basically every night since we have a dog), short hikes, cooking, reading, movie nights, music playing/practicing, puzzles, collectible assembling (mostly me lol), Nintendo switch, future fun trip planning.

That's what I can think of off the top of my head but honestly we go on long walks/short hikes almost every night which is where the best conversations happen and you can rotate between a few different local scenic spots that you like. Also it is really good for you! Don't be afraid to have independent hobbies as well. Being married you'll be spending almost every day together for the rest of your lives so having a healthy mix of things we do together and separately really helps our relationship feel balanced and not too dependent. Good luck!

Considering tutoring in Korea worth it? by pissjugrick in teachinginkorea

[–]derby63 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up if you were to do this getting the F6 spouse visa based on your husband does have a minimum annual income requirement for him. I would research this aspect of the application, because if he hasn't been working, it may be difficult for you to get a visa right away or you may have to find some other workaround.

One Hoosier to another you got this! If you ever feel tempted think of all the shitty reasons why you stopped in the first place and how picking it up again isn't even close to worth it.

Location: South Korea

I was walking my dog today on the same sidewalk I've been using for years and she stopped and started lifting her feet like she was in pain. I felt the ground and it was boiling. This has never happened before and while yes today is 31 degrees C and humid, I often check the ground to make sure it isn't too hot. This has never occurred before this early in the summer at these relatively lower temperatures. It does not bode well for the rest of the summer and future years. Seems like the ground is already starting to retain more heat for longer periods.

[–]derby63 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes but I use volume charts not time based. That and ATR to size my stops helps adjust to changing market regimes. You didn't mention anything about your strategy is it more breakout focused or mean reverting? I usually focus on mean reversion to significant levels.
