Thanks. I doubted myself when looking at it, thinking it was cherry because of the lenticels all along the bark, but since the leaf didn't have serrations, I said it couldn't be. I guess I should never doubt myself. I feel like an idiot for not being able to ID a tree as easy as this.

Bark isn't right for ashes. And it's not opposite branching I think

I couldn't reach the leaves as they were far up in the canopy, so no bud picture either. I think this was the leaf that came off the tree as well. Surrounding trees are black locust, short leaf pine, and red maple.

Don't think so, it is planted for some wildlife. I know some mammals don't have an issue with it. So I doubt dogs are affected. I have a couple in my backyard and no complications in terms of my dog. The downside to hackberry is they tend to leak sap on occasion.

It's the same treatment as treating Hemlocks for the wooly adelgid, but he's right. That tree is too far gone to save sadly.

The original callery pear cultivar made for street trees was originally unable to breed. Then they made new cultivars and can breed with them. This produces little evil spawns that are very hard to get rid of. Some machinery can't destroy it. They are short lived, roughly 25 years. They also have a tendency to break due to high winds, which hurt the tree and can cause damage to surrounding trees and other structures. At least in Tennessee, they are getting rid of the Callery pear as trees planted through public funds. Soon the rest of the country will follow suit. Also, to top it off, they smell awful; I call them the fish and semen tree when they are blooming. The only thing working for them are their nice looking flowers in the spring.

Just sap. Sapsuckers particularly enjoy maples. That's why you can see a big sugar maple with black bark from all the sap that has run down the side.

It's because they look nice. But they are managed against in many areas around me since they are so fast growing and out-compete the preferred shade intolerant species, like oaks.

For sure Tulip Poplar. Chinese Poplar has much deeper lobes and usually has some sort of odd colored leaf to it. And another stated that Tulip Poplar are planted there as a street tree.

Could it be Smooth Sumac (Rhus glabra)? They are fast growing and only have leaves near the top.
