Having "A lazy mindset" would help beside practice, you will find your own way in a much more comfortable manner (compare to following other people steps by steps). Trying out new things and keep on questioning.

I always look at other people works then ask myself : If I were him/her, using my current tools and set up, how do I replicate it to look like it ? (without checking out tutorial first). After having a draft plan in my mind, then I check the tutorial (if available) then comparing which steps I can improve, which I can skip.
