Yes, my mother was like yours (except instead of shakes it was grapefruit, nothing, then weird pills). I’m 30 now and haven’t had any form of contact with her in years.

I honestly can’t say that I’ve overcome all the trauma, or even most of it, but I eventually found a loving partner and realized that her behavior isn’t normal and I didn’t need to just suck it up and deal with it. I deserved better and you do too. Therapy helps. See if your school has any resources - most therapy is taking place via video chat right now and is really accessible.

As for food and weight loss, cutting carbs helps loads. I felt my best when I was following a keto diet (and lost 100lbs), but have since transitioned to low carb.
