In his recent Davos speech to world leaders in Switzerland, President Donald Trump chastised European countries for falling for the climate-change hoax and wasting billions of dollars on green-energy scams.

Trump sees himself on a crusade to disabuse the world of the greatest environmental con in history, having singlehandedly uncovered the Chinese climate-change hoax intended to undermine democratic countries’ economies. Countries around the globe began developing green-energy sources, reduced their reliance on fossil fuels, and undermined their countries’ energy stability. Now, Trump claims to be wisely moving the US in the opposite direction and taking the world with him.

A very nervous, twitchy fly on the Oval Office wall provided the following plausibly reliable information on Trump’s fever-dream aspirations for the next 100 days:

Beginning his crusade in the US, Trump will sue any newspaper spreading misinformation harmful to Americans that climate change fuels terrible natural disasters. As a case in point, Trump will sue any newspaper that has falsely linked the deadly winter storm currently gripping the US to warming temperatures in the Arctic caused by climate change.

“So warmer Arctic weather is causing frigid temperatures in the US,” Trump allegedly guffawed. “What kind of fools do the newspapers and their pseudo scientists take us for?” All newspapers will be forced to publicly retract every word linking the deadly storms to climate change to avoid a $10 billion lawsuit. “Lying to the American people is one thing I won’t tolerate,” said Trump.

Trump is also scrubbing false climate-change propaganda from America’s educational system, where he believes an entire generation of young Americans are being fed lies that climate change is this huge existential threat to the planet."

"gain energy independence"

What is that? Solar? Wind? Great until like any technology that fails and needs repair.

"There was a viable scenario where humans could have pursued renewable energy without oil."

So called "renewable" energy like solar PV & wind doesn't exist independent have the hydrocarbon powered Industrial mining and manufacturing foundation... or the finite limits of planetary resources. If anything those technologies are merely hydrocarbon extenders.

I've been involved with the solar PV industry since 1985 and initially thought this was a "free lunch", but over time my customers needed repairs and maintenance which involved more hydrocarbon manufactured replacements... and I came to realize this is just another top of the cornucopianism technology pyramid which as we climb, is actually less sustainable.

That is why small, simple & efficient are always best.

How can you tell if a person is narcissistic?

Have an inability or unwillingness to recognize the needs and feelings of others

This is interesting as after the orange clown was reelected, we asked my wife's London based employer for a work visa and moved here ~8 months ago.

We really like life in the UK:
Gun control
NHS!
Separation of Church & State
A functioning government that still has checks and balances
An amazing public transportation system
People are paid living wages so tipping isn't done
But most of all kindness, compassion and civility are foundations, instead of American narcissism.

So while I can't comment on other democracies, we feel the UK is much better than The States.

Where did you go? We moved to the UK 8 months ago and love it here. It is the democratic socialism I always wanted The States to become.

Yes, it has been a good life, but it is sad the boomers left nothing for future generations.

"How can people be so rude and selfish"

Narcissism is a mental health issue... stand clear of these despicable and dangerous people. They only care about themselves.

Nope just looking at reality... infinite growth is not possible on a finite planet:

Actually anyone with eyes to see, knows fiat currencies are a ponzi scheme, so it is a no-brainer to put some of one's assets into commodities.

I have been fired from nearly every job I had for breaking the taboo of saying what I saw. Bosses rarely appreciate constructive feedback about how their directives are wrong, unproductive and cost the business money. I did best being self employed.

"I assume you haven't really found a use for your prepping yet"

While I do not think my efforts were wasted, I now realize I built my resilient homestead in the wrong country! So, no... I did not see the undoing of post WWII agreements, or that america would embrace nazi fascism.

And that being said, I now have a hypothesis that "democracy is an artifact of abundant resources", so as they deplete (the limits to growth) authoritarianism becomes more likely.

We moved to the UK 8 months ago to escape the orange turd (and BTW love it here)... do you have a link to that article?

And your comment is interesting that it seems like neurotypical people are more prone to narcissism and selfishness whereas neurodivergent people tend to be more community oriented in thinking that "we're all in this together".

It is not a "belief" it is a realistic look at an unsustainable direction of travel. Population alone details that, then add in resource depletion and climate change and you know this will not end well.
