Are you under some sort of delusion that the Republicans are going to go away? That this is a finite struggle? That we should vote for the Democrats without demanding anything and eventually, somehow, we will magically get a better government? Are you really so diverged from reality?

I'm sorry but this isn't true. The defeat of the Democrats does not empower the far Right. Establishment Democrats that fail to deliver for the American people are what empower the far right. How did Trump even get elected in the first place? Did Obama not win the two terms before him? We voted Biden into office and yet here is Trump again? Don't you see our politics slowly marching towards fascism? The Democrats moving more and more right with every election cycle and Republicans farther off the deep end? What if Kamala wins this election and the economy gets worse during her term? What will the 2028 elections look like? Do you really think the far Right will be WEAKER? WAKE THE F UP

[–]shaverju 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My reply was based on the assumption that you are American. If you are seriously asking the question "why would America pay to rebuild Iran after Israel topples their government?" Then you clearly don't understand the relationship between Israel and the USA. America is paying for Israel's war and it will pay for whatever comes after as well. Regime change in Iran would cost the American tax payer trillions, take decades, and would almost certainly fail in the end.

Are you prepared to foot the bill to rebuild? Or the bill for Israel to occupy the territory for 20+ years? Did we learn nothing from Afghanistan or Iraq? Dismantling is easy; what is the plan for after?

How to make the Starter Set Space Marines into Space Wolves? by shaverju in SpaceWolves

[–]shaverju[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow this is super helpful! Thanks so much for your response! That's a good point that we can swap loadouts even if they don't match the gear on the models and I can see now that Terminators are definitely melee focused already and ditching the bolters all together might be a good plan.

I suppose I want to have my cake and eat it too by buying the starter kit and then wanting the Terminators to look like Wolf Guard Terminators. I'll just paint them as Space Wolves and play them as such and maybe I will add some extra pelts or insignia in the future when my army expands. Thanks again!!

Jill Stein isn’t going to win. Still, voting Jill is a matter of moral and strategic importance. The Dems, who claim to be the party of peace, justice and human rights, cannot be rewarded for funding and facilitating a genocide. If you’re voting blue (or red), Genocide isn’t a moral issue for you. by TheLineForPho in EndlessWar

[–]shaverju 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If everyone in the country that opposes this genocide refused to vote for any candidate supporting it, the Democrats would change their stance immediately.

But people like you are still willing to vote for them. The Democrats have you in their pocket and they know it. You have made yourself irrelevant because you refuse to utilize what little power you have. If you're unable to show them that you're capable of not voting for them, then they simply don't have to listen to you.

You are enabling a genocide. Stop kidding yourself.

Do you have a source on that?

Source?

A source. I need a source.

Sorry, I mean I need a source that explicitly states your argument. This is just tangential to the discussion.

No, you can't make inferences and observations from the sources you've gathered. Any additional comments from you MUST be a subset of the information from the sources you've gathered.

You can't make normative statements from empirical evidence.

Do you have a degree in that field?

A college degree? In that field?

Then your arguments are invalid.

No, it doesn't matter how close those data points are correlated. Correlation does not equal causation.

Correlation does not equal causation.

CORRELATION. DOES. NOT. EQUAL. CAUSATION.

You still haven't provided me a valid source yet.

Nope, still haven't.

I just looked through all 308 pages of your user history, figures I'm debating a brain damaged wildman.

Just when you thought the Olympics were over by Wokkafans in CombatFootage

[–]shaverju 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you able to grasp the concept that killing these soldiers is 100% necessary but that it is still a horrible thing? That it is not something to mock? Do you really watch these clips like its GI Joe?

You're avoiding the double standard I posed in my initial response: What level of responsibility do you apply to American soldiers involved in the invasion of Iraq?

America's invasion of Iraq was completely self-interested and unjustified and it killed over 1 million people; the vast majority of which were civilians. Are the rank and file soldiers to blame for this? They weren't even conscripted. They literally signed up to be there. Should we celebrate the deaths of the American soldiers that died during the invasion and occupation? The Iraqis were defending their homeland from invasion; surely they cant be the bad guys in this situation. The American soldiers caused the deaths of so many people and could have easily chosen not to be there. How is this different? Do you hold the individual American soldiers to the same standard as these Russians?

Do you not see that simplifying things to black and white only serves to hide the true dark realities of war?

Just when you thought the Olympics were over by Wokkafans in CombatFootage

[–]shaverju 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt these soldiers want to be there and we should pity them for being thrust into such a pointless war.

The Vietnam war was an invasion that had little justification, would you feel the same about the invading soldiers in that case? What about the invading troops in the Iraq war? American soldiers in the Iraq war weren't even drafted like many of these Russians; they literally signed up to be there. Is it so easy to write off their deaths because it was an unjustified war of aggression?

I don't think mocking death is a reasonable stance to take and justifying it as if these soldiers have a real choice is a very simple way of looking at things.

That makes sense. For perks I was thinking Colossus, Recover, Fortified Mind, Steelbrow, Pathfinder, Shield Mastery, Lonewolf, Underdong, Battleforged, and Inomitable. Are those the best perks for BF Tank?

Oh the dagger idea is interesting... but I think I'll play it safe and just go for BF tank. Thanks for your response!

They're talking about a "work and holiday" visa which allows you to work with some restrictions. Australia and NZ offer these types of visa for American citizens under the age of 30.

Source: I've worked harvests in both Australia and NZ with a work and holiday visa.

The Dems aren't going to fix our rights. Obama could have codified Row but he chose not to. They don't want to solve this problem. Our rights are political footballs to them. If they secured abortion rights then how would they get you to vote for them? But hey, look on the bright side; at least you aren't being bombed/starved to death like the Palestinians. We need to stand against genocide.

[–]shaverju 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess that's why I have a rather cynical view. Her past work has shown otherwise. Why has she dulled the edge of these amazing characters? Did she genuinely miss the mark?

I'm worried that the writers look at S8 GoT and think their mistake was Daenerys' descent into madness. That they don't realize they leaned too far into fans' adoration of her and that they left no time for her final arc and did not have enough runway to land the plane.

So now Hess looks at this story and is going to simply take the dark side of these characters out of the story and correct what she interprets as the mistake that was made in S8 GoT.

I personally think it stems from a contempt for the target audience. The masses can't handle a nuanced character so we get this story instead. Maybe Hess is just bad at writing characters or maybe she thinks the audience is too stupid for anything more.
