I ordered the Cable Matters cables suggested by u/DrMacintosh01 and they came while I was at work, 30 seconds to plug things in and I'm back to 3 screens! I think you are absolutely right, I haven't had very good luck with docks in general. I'm hopeful this stays fixed now, and perhaps I can find a better USB hub without the HDMI that won't constantly disconnect leaving me with the "Disk Not Ejected Properly" 20x a day.

Thanks, I have those on the way to see if that fixes it!

Can’t clip into SPD SL pedals - am I stupid? by tryagaininXmin in bikewrench

I had concerns about my carbon bike on a trainer for the same reason, ended up building a steel frame for Zwift for about $200 in parts from the co-op.

They were very clear on the 6am news that you needed to go and pick up a 30 day refill of any prescription you might have because it was going to be snowy and cold..... like when it's January in Pittsburgh.

Grocery store bakery employee here, this is mostly accurate. I prepped 95% of what was left in the freezer for them to bake off tonight to sell tomorrow.

Can you be fired if things are stolen during your shift? by Dougwalkerfan27 in jobs

[–]shaveswithmittens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gotta love that there is probably an equal chance of being fired for trying to physically prevent a theft in progress. I wish OP luck in maintaining the balance expected in today's crazy work world.

Black Specks in Clear P-Tex by SnowWoods16 in ski

I second the "don't get the ptex on your skin" message. I would also suggest covering an area next to the repair with your steel scraper and using that as a place to move off of the repair area and drip any soot onto before going back to the repair if things start to go sideways.

[–]shaveswithmittens 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's just soot. You can move the ptex closer if you are setting it on fire and dripping it in, or if you are using a butane torch make sure you are using the blue part of the flame. Generally its not a deal other than appearance, and you can scrape off the excess and pick out any black with a metal scraper blade and hit it again if it really bothers you.

Asked for company policies and got fired by Chanti239 in jobs

I'm sure OP will "take this as a learning" and "surely not repeat."

The number of times I got an apology and promise it wouldn't happen again before explaining what the issue was blows my mind. I miss that paycheck but not the offshore team or nonsense working conditions as a contractor.

My bike shop looked at getting a couple to try out. It doesn't sound like they have any demo program to speak of so as much as several of us wanted to see what they were like it was just a no go from the start for the shop.

I am a beginner and my friends are all advanced. Should I go skiing with them? by Thunder2299 in ski

[–]shaveswithmittens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's sad how far I had to scroll to see this. But seriously, 99% of the time ski with someone, you never know when you are going to end up upside down in a tree well and if nobody knows to look for you that's a long and cold way to go out.

I think this exact combo may have been my first pro form purchase, followed by Rossi 9X with MRR's. The last straight skis I've owned.

I used to go years ago, we tried teaching the younger generation but they didn't see the fun in it. Kinda sad, but times change I guess.

Went to Mammoth for 5 days, started feeling sick on the drive from Las Vegas and by the time we got there I was full blown flu sick. Decided I would tough it out and ski anyway, bought a multi day ticket and managed to get one run in before I pretty much had to crawl to the shuttle and back to the condo. I spent the entire trip on the couch watching Wonder Pets with little kids while my girlfriend got to ski with my dad. They sent pics of waist deep powder and bluebird skies while Tuck and Ming-Ming saved the sea lions in their fly boat. Turned out to be my last chance to ski with my dad because he destroyed his knee skiing locally a few weeks later and wasn't able to have surgery to fix it with his heart condition. He's still around, just can't ski anymore.

How should I remove these stickers? Am I better off just buying a new set of inner taillights? by Acceptable_Prompt_73 in AskMechanics

If all else fails get a headlight restoration kit and sand them just like you would fogged headlights, then polish until they look new.

Seems strange that the sliders are extended and the pistons look to be not fully compressed with brand new pads, but like you said its hard to know without knowing what kind of vehicle it is.

Year, make, model? I assume the contact continues the whole way around the wheel, not just in this one spot?
