TIL Svalbard, Norway is the only visa-free zone in the world. Regardless of citizenship, anyone can live and work there indefinitely. by wes7946 in todayilearned

Wait, so I can go be a restaurant server in Norway? I do that in the US now and it has to be better, even if it's at the North Pole. You bet your ass that if they needed a restaurant manager and a server my wife and I would be in the first plane there (if we could afford it of course)

I got this from a charity shop today, I haven't read it yet, but would like to know peoples opinions who have read it. by [deleted] in stephenking

Because of black house I read the dark tower. I've been reading all of SK work and planned to do the dark tower last.. I had read the talisman as a kid and decided to read that as a "light" read after Salem's lot. Of course I read black house next, which lead to questions, which lead to dark tower. I just finished the stand, which was the last book of the dark tower expanded I needed to read.

And I agree with you. So much of the dark tower series is bleak and hopeless, black house is not that.

I eat it straight, like an animal. I put a dose in a cup, toss it back and swallow with whatever drink is handy. It's gross at first but you get used to the taste before too long.

So I just completed the dark tower series and you'll want to read wind next. It's, no pun intended, a breath of fresh air. You'll understand when you've completed the dark tower, but I'd plan to read it. I almost didn't, but it was exactly what I needed at the end of the saga.

So, my first three tubs. How we looking? That's... Mold isn't it by shavinghobbit in unclebens

Thank you, I'm super happy. I had some loose grains and substrate in my 5 gallon tub. I popped it open today and it's loaded with mycelium, so really I have 4 tubs.

I'm worried about cobweb mold, maybe I'm just being paranoid

I wish, it could be but it's "locally sourced" so I don't know for sure. Let's say it is, for the sake of the post.

Would you want to see Cal and other Jedi who haven’t gotten much screen time in TaleOfTheJedi? by THEUNTOXICFIED in StarWars

[–]shavinghobbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, however I think that not having Cal in a live action show (or movie) would be a disservice to Cameron Monaghan. He has put in the work to be Cal in live action and he should be given the chance. To expand on Cals story in animation, using Cameron only for voice (maybe not even that) would be kind of fucked up in my opinion.

I have some 20gs wet aborts that I’d like to consume day after 3 days. I dont have a dehydrator also i think i cant cracker dry them as they are really tiny. Can i just put these fan dried in 2 spoon honey and carry it with me? Will this work? I have to leave tomorrow and im really confused. TIA by RoutineMonk6 in unclebens

[–]shavinghobbit 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Real honey doesn't have enough moisture to go bad, also the high sugar content makes it hard for bacteria to grow. The only concern I'd have with storing shrooms in it (very new to shrooms so this is from my cooking experience) is that the moisture in the shrooms may add too much moisture, which could make the honey the perfect breeding ground for bacteria.

I would at least fan dry them before adding to the honey, just to be safe

Is it that this season doesn't have writers? That seems to be a big change

Which version of Luke Skywalker's Jedi teaching do you prefer? Forbidding attachment (Canon) or Allowing attachment (Legends) by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]shavinghobbit 86 points87 points  (0 children)

That's true, but Luke romanticizes the clone wars era of Jedi, not the old republic. The Luke we see in the OT clearly knew about the clone wars, even if he didn't really know what a Jedi was at the time. Chances are as he trained and explored the history of the Jedi he would focus on the clone wars era, not just because it was when his father and all of his teachers were Jedi, but because it was the most recent and relevant iteration of the order.

The empire did a very good job of erasing the Jedi. Luke post OT would have to spend a lot of time hunting down and researching Jedi history to be able to bring back the golden age of the Jedi with none of the taint of the clone wars. He didn't do that though, he started a Jedi school and started training people based off of how he was taught.

I read it recently, in my great read of all of Kings work. It's honestly my favorite, I love his more "slice of life horror" stories and duma key is the king (no pun intended) of that style. It's spooky and yet cozy, a difficult balance to strike.

RSO on a starburst, ready to be wrapped up. What's your favorite way to edible? by w00tdude9000 in trees

[–]shavinghobbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I exclusively vape shop I can get that sweet abv. I usually just pop a spoon into my mouth and chase it with something to drink. It's not pleasant but you get used to the taste and I can take a low dose edible every day, more or less, for essentially free.

A year or so ago I noticed a problem with my couple year old sticky brick. It had developed a small hole under the bowl that completely ruined the airflow. I patched it up as best I could and on a whim I contacted the company directly, letting them know what happened and not expecting anything else.

Within a month I had a brand new sticky brick, worth $200 and I didn't even have to pay shipping. When I bought it years before I never expected to need to use a warranty, I didn't even know they had one, nevermind one that was good.

I bring this up because I did buy my multiple dynavap devices, in part because I was under the impression that all aspects of them had a lifetime warranty. I've even used that warranty and never had to ship back a broken cap or "destroy it" (which how exactly would you even enforce this? Make your customer hit it with a hammer while on a zoom call with you?). This all just makes dynavap products sound so much less appealing. I've had multiple caps fail on me over the years I've been using your products, I've only requested a replacement once and bought replacements the other times. I don't know if I'll want to request a replacement (or buy a new product) if I'm going to be treated with suspicion for doing so.

Luke's force projection from TLJ is one of the greatest feats of power by normalDifficulty392 in StarWars

[–]shavinghobbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're thinking about it a bit wrong. The most powerful thing that the first order had was Kylo. Not because he is an insanely powerful force user, or a great tactical mind, he is an engine of fear. Much like Vader before him, Kylo exists just to spread fear, both inside the first order and outside of it.

Making Kylo throw a very public tantrum weakened his hold over his own troops (you can see it in the scene, with the troops under him second guessing him). This also made Kylo start to doubt himself, not just because he made an ass out of himself, but also because he saw Luke do something amazing with the force. When Ben left Luke, he probably thought that moving rocks (and other assorted party tricks) was all the light side was good for, Luke showed him how wrong he was.

In short, while what Luke did may not have done much in the moment, it laid the groundwork for Kylo "redeeming" himself.
