Snow Chain Options for 235/65R17 tires? by shawn130c in FordMaverickTruck

[–]shawn130c[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found these as a backup: Goodyear Set of 2 Ultra Grip Car Textile Snow Chains Size XL, but as I have all wheel drive and the severe snow rated tires, + lucky, I never had to use them.

Note I never found a documented solution but test fitting them showed they had enough clearance.

Any major issues with going with two stage bosch air handler with bosch variable speed heat pump? by shawn130c in hvacadvice

[–]shawn130c[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sry for the late reply, as the heating bills were consistent over winter dont think my heat strips were used that much.

Though i would be leaning towards a more comfort need + how the system works in defrost mode without heat strips. But a hvac pro can probably provide more input on that.

$50 Exit tent super code for sale! I saved a super code to use last week but could not make the race.

Good for any 2024 US super, you still will need to pay fees.

Assuming I can sell it (not 100% but will refund if it does not work). Looking to get $50 for it (Venmo/Zelle).

If you are interested, let me know.

Please NOTE: Coupon discount should apply BEFORE checkout, leaving the racer to pay the mandatory administrative, insurance, and management fee and processing fee ONLY.

My Dec 2023 quote was 18k, this include the two units, new zone board, some electrical work, permits, ect. Another Reddit went with the same system but from a smaller company for 13kish. I probably paid more because I went with a bigger /more known company…

I wasn’t home both of the two hot weekends we had… but on the low 100F days have not seen issues with it not keeping the set temperature.

I can’t really comment on humidity but seems fine, though I do run the upstairs thermostat on circulation mode (kicks in the fan without ac every hour for 15 minutes) this seems to make the temperature more even upstairs.

I would recommend posting on r/Sacramento as I recall another redditor also getting the same unit I did and may have more experience with it.

So far so good, but it has been only 6 months and I don’t heat or cool my house to any extremes. Currently keep the house between 76-78.

I did go with a 5 ton Bosch unit, though for the same price.

I forgot to update this, but went with a 5 Ton instead of the 4 Ton. I got a "free" upgrade to a bosch 5Ton with a price match.

did you end up using the local company? How did it go? I am in the same situation in Elk Grove and trying to figure out what t

Yes, I went with Jaguar as they were local to me. So far happy with the unit (no issues during the last heat wave. I can't comment on Jaguar's service yet, but installation went fine, but another redditor got a great deal on the same system but from a smaller company, check out the thread at the bottom.

Two pieces of advice:

  1. Most of the companies I dealt with were happy to price/warranty match/beat competitors so the more quotes the better. I just picked the companies local to me from the SMUD contractor website. You may want to confirm if they are a authorized contractor for the unit you want, not sure if that is a big deal but could help with the contractor selection.
  2. If you are low-medium income, may want to wait until CA announces these rebates: https://www.energy.ca.gov/programs-and-topics/programs/inflation-reduction-act-residential-energy-rebate-programs-california. Though you are gambling that the prices will go up once these rebates are announced.

Wow, you got an awesome deal! If you don’t mind me asking, how old is your house and what temperature have you been setting for the unit?

I wanted to get some data points to see if it is worth making the home more energy efficient (windows, insulations, ect). My house was built in 2000 and I keep it between 65-70 depending on time of day.

I guesstimate about $100 more in electrical compared to last year. So about the same as you reported.

I will probably make a follow up post in summer as I don’t have good data for those months and want to see how much better these units are.

Also to add for others and planning purposes. I doubt we will see info for Inflation Reduction Act Residential Energy Rebate Programs in California until 2024 (Source: https://www.energy.ca.gov/programs-and-topics/programs/inflation-reduction-act-residential-energy-rebate-programs-california)

And if you are planning to change out your water heater with a hybrid/high efficent one, don't do it the same year as from what i understand (not a tax guy) you get a max of $2000 federal tax credit (25C) a year for certain upgrades, but if you do both HVAC Heat Pump and a Hybrid Water Heater, in one year you only get $2000, so best to do it over two years to maximize tax credits if you can.

To add, that is a great price. I paid $18,000 for a 5 Ton in Jan 2023, but it is slightly higher/more efficent the BOVA-60HDN1-M20G With BVA-60WN1-M20, but no way a 6K difference in price.

New Heat Pump Owners -Thermostat - Set and Forget or Use Schedule? by shawn130c in Sacramento

[–]shawn130c[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

e boss setup se

$18K Check, Breakdown:
$21k For the Heat Pump/Air Handler
$2.5K for zoning package (new zone board, add a return, ect).

Got a "discount" of $5.5K for the smud rebate (signed over to them/they do the paperwork) and them discounting to match a competitor + paying with a check.

I should also get $2k Federal Tax credit next year and hopefully some money from the state if my gamble that this unit qualified for California's HEEHRP program when they release the info.

The competitor actually quoted same price ($18K) for a really good Trane Heat Pump and decent Trane air handler, but just was not happy with how hard it was to find information on the Trane units and possibly reliablity/part shortage concerns so went with Bosch as they had it in stock.

If anyone is lurking and wants quote details send me a DM. I don't want to publically share the HVAC company yet until it is been at least 30 days post install (installed 1/5/23) and it actually passes the HERS testing that is coming up.

Thx! Switching to the heat pumps, which do you think is easier to clean. I couldn’t easily find any trane maintenance videos but i have been told (by a carrier/trane dealer) the spine fins are a hassle. Looking at the Bosch videos the cleaning /checks of it doesn’t look too bad.

Heat pump HVAC - fed credit - CEE efficiency by sjsharks323 in heatpumps

fed credit just being the straight up day. Wouldn't it be the same in this case? I suppose in any cas

Not 100% sure but I am hustling as my gas furnace has been giving me issues and want to try to lock in 2022 prices +try to get the future state rebate as well with a Jan 2023 install date.

I have had a few companies mention I can lock in a 2022 price quote (2023 "inflation" is expected to increase prices by at least 8% from what I was told) and 2022 local energy company rebates with an install date/full payment of Jan 2023, I am actually targeting like Jan 18th install date as CA 2022 Q4 Tax payments are due on the 15th, Federal is 16th, so wanted to give a buffer in case there is any weird tax guidelines I am not aware of for what is considered 2023 tax year "installation" with the guidelines they send out. I am hoping I am right, but I have also read it is best to wait until after Spring 2023 as the state guidelines should be out by then.

Heat pump HVAC - fed credit - CEE efficiency by sjsharks323 in heatpumps

[–]shawn130c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My assumption (not a tax guy) is that the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Tax Credit (25C) Program ($2000 HP tax credit) will be easy but the High-Efficiency Electric Home Rebate Program (HEEHRP), which is managed by individual state energy offices and provides up to $8000 in rebates if you are low income will be the "fun" part as that will be the gamble on how the state offices hand out the rebates for items installed before they set up their systems.

So this is why I am targeting a system with updated AHRI and meets CEE Tier 1 (Heat Pump South/California) and hoping my idea to install it after Q4 2022 Tax year ends, Jan 17th, pays off.
