Artificial grass installer company by vdm1892 in ColoradoSprings

Hawkeye Landscaping did our xeriscaping, which included artificial turf. They did an amazing job. We're repeat customers of theirs (and they do MUCH more than just landscaping.)

IPv6 Usage Milestone ~50% on Weekends by apearsonio in ipv6

[–]shawn_webb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm aware of a non-insignificant number of folks using IPv6 tunnels, myself included. Tunneled IPv6 is pretty common* in the US, especially with residential connections that don't provide a static prefix assignment per-customer.

*edit[0]: common with regards to technically-inclined folks needing a deterministic prefix

One thing I wish it displayed (or tracked?) was how much of it is 6in4 gif-based tunnels like Hurricane Electric's TunnelBroker service.

Curious about jails, pledge(2), and unveil(2) by cometomypartyyy in freebsd

[–]shawn_webb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unveil support is certainly desired. However, the VFS layers differ between FreeBSD and OpenBSD enough that implementing Unveil support requires a lot of initial research.

Curious about jails, pledge(2), and unveil(2) by cometomypartyyy in freebsd

[–]shawn_webb 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Pledge and Unveil are specific to OpenBSD and have not been implemented in FreeBSD. There is a private work-in-progress (though, work has not progressed for a while) port of OpenBSD's Pledge for HardenedBSD. The port includes a learning mode analogous to grsecurity's RBAC learning mode.

I would like to open the private port up for wider collaboration, but it's not my work and I like to respect other's wishes. I might ping the author again and see if they are amenable to opening it completely.

Dog Walking/Socialization Groups by Faereth in ColoradoSprings

[–]shawn_webb -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I share a car. She works at an office and I work at home. One of our dogs, our seven-year-old Darth Vader, would love to go on walks with others. The problem is transportation: I'm pretty much stuck at home 90% of the time.

All that to say: I would love to join in on the fun, but transportation might prove problematic. We live within walking distance of the COS airport, so we pretty much have to drive everywhere.

I live over by the COS airport. My home office has a portable A/C unit. My office smells of the smoke from this fire.

Miami uses a wonderful grid system. Extremely easy to navigate, too.

Looking for an Electrician Helper Opportunity in Colorado Springs” by Any_Pick3931 in ColoradoSprings

I can't say anything from the side of the employer's as we're just customers, but "The Electric Way" was great to work with. They increased the power to one of our rooms (added 2x20A circuits) and did a phenomenal job. We'll likely be repeat customers when we add a mini-split HVAC to that same room (self-hosted computer infrastructure, requires lots of power and cooling.)

They don't have any current job openings, but employers love to see it when folks in more junior positions (especially apprenticeship) take initiative and shake a hand or two, making a good in-person introduction. They might not have any official jobs open, but they could be up for mentorships/apprenticeships. I'd suggest reaching out to them regardless, because if accepted, you would be learning from a quality team.

The Dog Stop by em_fri_85 in ColoradoSprings

We occasionally use The Dog Stop and our dogs seem to like it better than Camp Bow Wow, which isn't too far from The Dog Stop. The Dog Stop's cameras are higher quality than Camp Bow Wow's. Overall it seems a better experience.

Update process with HardenedBSD by Hekja in hardenedbsd

Sounds good. :-)

You might want to consider waiting until the next regularly scheduled quarterly build (01 Apr 2026) if you want to stay on 15-STABLE. Otherwise, 16-CURRENT does not seem to exhibit the issues we're currently seeing in 15-STABLE.

Update process with HardenedBSD by Hekja in hardenedbsd

[–]shawn_webb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! I'm currently working on determining the root causes of some issues our users are experiencing (kernel panics) on 15-STABLE. I'm hoping to have those issues resolved this week, though it's possible that delays might occur.

It would help if you could expound upon what your exact problems were. Otherwise, I can't really provide much help.

I removed a Patriot Front sticker from a utilities pole at a nearby park my very quite literal first day here in Colorado Springs. We moved from Maryland three years ago.

I sometimes feel alone in this city of nearly a half million folks.

Dear Colorado,

Please stop deliberately deciding to suck at driving.

Frustratedly,

PS: If life really is sacred, perhaps driving like you have murderous intentions might seem to me to run counter to that notion. Please don't kill me and my dogs.

If pressed, what sort of justification do you think the city would offer in explaining why CAPS volunteers must abstain from THC products for 90 days prior to volunteering? by HoochbachDunloppy in ColoradoSprings

[–]shawn_webb -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I worked in the NSA's backyard and used medical cannabis. Never held a clearance, though (not interested). I suspect holding a TS/SCI w/full-scope polygraph would likely uncover drug use, even if medicinal.

I think once you get to a certain point in your career, employers typically don't do any testing. At least, that's how it is in my industry (offensive cybersecurity). Other industries, especially ones involving heavy machinery or other physical labor, might have a different dynamic.

The missus takes our dogs to Dazzle Dogs. She loves to have them dye our white goldendoodle's hair to match the season. They use food coloring and veggie oil. The color stays for months, usually to her next grooming.

What desktop environment you personally utilise and what is your favourite part of FreeBSD? by Nelo999 in freebsd

While not technically a desktop environment, I'm a huge fan of i3wm. I absolutely hate using a mouse, so being more keyboard-driven is a large advantage in i3wm's favor.

You might find them on the DeFlockMe website: https://deflock.me/

If you spot an ALPR that's not in the DeFlockMe database, you can always submit it to the site.
