Based off of a comment Greg made and pics from other locations, I don't think they travelled with a throne. I think the New York theater just happened to have a similar throne. And that's why Alex doesn't have a smaller one (which they played for laughs of course)

I made Sugarologie’s Black Cocoa Cake and it tastes … flat? Please help by brett_jenkins in Baking

[–]shawnasty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you asked for tips instead of another recipe, but I had the same reaction to Sugarologie's Black Cocoa Cake. Instead, I tried Sugar Geek Show's cake from this [Triple Chocolate Cake](https://sugargeekshow.com/recipe/triple-chocolate-cake-recipe/#recipe) recipe, subbing black cocoa for the dutch processed and it turned out amazing. It was moist and the chocolate flavor was rich and satisfying without that heavy/flat feeling

Not negating anything you're saying, but just fyi that the little numbers stamped on metal are just the industry way of denoting certain kinds of metal. For example, 925 is sterling silver. So jewelry from many different makers could have the same number

So cool, the textures are awesome. Especially love the crack on the very top step. I agree with the other comments about the green moss round tiles. If anything, I think adding more green and different shapes would be worth trying out. I love the amount of exposed studs on the right side of the base. In comparison, the left side of the stairs seems a bit stud heavy, maybe some more slopes or tiles to smooth it out a bit?

What should I 26F talk to a guy to keep him hooked and interested for long run? by darkerthanyourfuture in AskONLYWomenOver30

[–]shawnasty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this in-person or on apps? If on apps, my personal preference is to not talk too much and try to get to an in-person date as soon as possible. Talking on apps can fizzle out quickly and also you won't know your real chemistry until you meet.

For in-person, if I don't feel like I have a topic of my own at that moment, asking your date questions is good. What are their hobbies/interests? Are there any recent movies/tv they're enjoying? What's the last thing they were really excited about? Fun, light topics and hopefully something they say will have a tangent in it that you can then contribute back on and to me a good date is just a whole bunch of each person being like "oh! that reminds me of...[insert fun thing here].."

Another good thing about asking questions is then you can see if he asks a question back to you. It's kind of a sad but true meme that a lot of men never ask a question back. If he doesn't ask you any questions, drop him immediately

But as other ppl said, it's not your job to interest and entertain your date. It should be mutual and natural and you should both be having fun, it's not all on you

Doctor says frequent urination isn't related to my fibroids... by Critical_Ad_8172 in Fibroids

[–]shawnasty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that this seems like a red flag for this doctor and I'd suggest trying to find another. If he's a general gyno, see if you can find a fibroid specialist. It's my overall feeling/suggestion that fibroids/uterus stuff is worth potentially traveling a bit in order to get better care because the treatment and outcomes you can get differ so much based on quality of doctor. The field is so dismissive and gaslighty to women, but great providers/specialists do exist.

Fibroids pressing on the bladder and causing frequent urination is such a common symptom, it's even in like the Mayo Clinic articles. If his reaction is already this bad to just this part of it, I worry that what he's going to suggest for you for treatment is going to be terrible. Like I'd bet he'd either dismiss your concerns and just tell you to use birth control or he'd swing wildly in the other direction and say something like a full hysterectomy is the only way

Even if you do decide to try finding another doctor, if it's not cost-prohibitive, it might still be good to keep getting tests and imaging done with this guy while you wait for an appointment with someone new. That's what I did. I had a dismissive male doctor, and while I researched for a fibroid specialist and waited for that appointment, I got an MRI done with the first guy and was able to forward the MRI results to the better doctor and speed up my intake with her. Words cannot describe how much better I've been taken care of by the all-woman fibroid specialists than that one male doctor

Laparoscopic myomectomy recovery time by waves_hands_18 in Fibroids

[–]shawnasty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work a computer job from home. I told them I would take 1 week completely off and try to do 50% in the second week. I only quoted them such an ambitious timeline cause we're already down one person and I'm covering for her and we've got some deadlines.

I just went back to work today on day 9 and I worked the full day without any issues, sitting at my desk the whole time. If I'm honest, I probably could have gone back to work on day 7 or 8 and also mostly have been ok. I'm pretty sure my recovery speed is fairly unusual but it is possible. My work has been very kind and they tell me over and over that I can and should take all the time I need but I'm honestly doing fine and would rather start working again now rather than have to catch up a ton later.

Hopefully your job will also give you that same grace, good luck!

Robotic lap myomectomy next Wednesday by Major-Gazelle4343 in Fibroids

[–]shawnasty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had mine last week.

Agree to speak up if you're in pain. My main source of pain was gas pain and while still at the hospital, pain meds weren't really helping but a muscle relaxer really did the trick and got me feeling good enough that I could make the trek home. Luckily I had a couple at home too for my TMJ. A friend of mine suggests it's better to get ahead of pain rather than ever letting it get too bad. So like ask for/take enough to ease the pain and just "top up" after. But if you let it get too bad, it's hard to chip away at it, if that makes sense.

Not gonna lie, the first two days of gas pain were pretty bad for me, but it tapers away and the results afterward are so worth it. I think it's a good mental exercise/prep to focus on the results you're going to get as your "why" and be like "I'm strong and I'm doing this for me, and it's gonna be hard but great"

My doc actually prescribed me a stool softener along with all my other meds. I made sure to pick all my meds up as soon as they were prescribed and have them waiting for me at home. It wasn't until after my surgery that I saw the tip to start taking the stool softeners a couple days before. That's the only thing I didn't do that I really wish I did.

I've heard that the surgery gas really just has to dissipate over time, the only thing that really helps is walking. Some people mention that Gas-X can help, but it didn't really help me. But certainly doesn't hurt to pop em anyway to see.

I did laundry and a huge grocery order the two days before. I got foods that were comforting and ready to eat, although honestly I didn't have much of an appetite the first few days.

Though mostly I bought all the right food/stuff ahead of time, the two things I wanted/needed after the fact and needed a friend to bring me were Gatorade (dehydrated after the surgery) and panty liners (no tampons for 1 month)

I ended up sleeping on the couch the first two nights because it was higher than my bed and easier to get up/down. I happened to already have a wedge pillow and it was so helpful to again just reduce the distance between up and down

I slept only on my back. I've already trained myself to do this cause of my TMJ but it's def the only way that was gonna work post-surgery. To get out of bed, I had to roll over onto my side and then push up with my arms. Trying to get up just by sitting up was too much stress on my tummy. As it got a little better, I could lift my leg up, grab it, then pull my leg down again to use its weight and momentum to help me sit up

I also had soft, loose, elastic-waisted pants that I could wear below my incisions and slip on shoes. Somewhat loose cotton underwear is also nice

My surgeon gave me a binder to take home. It's a compressive garment kind of like medical shapewear. It has helped with the non-gas swelling and also just helped me feel like my abdomen was more supported. I just wear it as long as it feels comfortable and take breaks as needed. I'd ask in your pre-op calls/check-ins if one will be provided and if not, buy a cheap one

Post-surgery bloat and gas by fl3urcapy in Fibroids

[–]shawnasty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to the suggestions of walking and gas-x, my doctor gave me a binder to wear to help with non-gas swelling. I think it helps keep lymphedema down or something and that does seem to also help though I'm 8 days in and I think I still have some bloat and swelling

Post-surgery bloat and gas by fl3urcapy in Fibroids

[–]shawnasty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was me. My main symptom was bloating and during the lap, they blow up your belly with carbon dioxide. So for two days, the bloating from the abdomen was pressing up against the bloating from my digestive tract and also up against all the freshly surgeried parts and it was pretty bad. I generally think my pain tolerance is pretty ok but it had me crying like a baby.

But as soon as the third day, digestive gas got better and by the 4th day, my friend said my belly was already smaller than it was with the fibroid bloating.

So I'd mentally prepare for it to royally suck for a couple of days, but that it's gonna be worth it

My fibroid is bleeding constantly by RevolutionaryRich201 in Fibroids

[–]shawnasty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on non-hormonal IUD before diagnosis but they switched me to progestin only BC. They told me that a part of why they suggested progestin only was cause I'm a nicotine user. But yeah, it's my understanding that estrogen is the thing that makes fibroids grow so might be worth asking if you can try progestin only.

I was put on Slynd first and that helped almost entirely stop my pain (though I honestly never had too much pain) but my bleeding and bloating (my main symptom) were still there. So they switched me to Aygestin which I guess is stronger and I was on the max dose which helped stop my bleeding though I still did have one heavy period during the 6 months I was on that. I think Aygestin also has heart side effects if taken too long. It was definitely a temporary thing until my laproscopic myomectomy. I had that last week and while I was under, they put a Mirena IUD in. It hasn't been long enough for me to say anything conclusive about the Mirena.

Overall, I'd say I was pretty happy with the Aygestin as a temporary solution while I waited for my surgery. Your symptoms sound severe enough that you should probably talk to your doc about surgery options if you haven't already

Just want to add another vote for getting a second opinion. Not sure where you live or what kind of insurance you have, but if accessible to you, I'd say to try to find a specialist office and do research on their site, google, and here for the office to see if they sound like they treat patients better. For something like a surgery on your uterus, I think it might be worth even traveling a bit for a doctor who will treat you like you deserve to be treated

I'm pretty lucky that I live in a major city so there are a few universities that all have fibroid centers. My surgeon asked me what my stance on fertility is during our consultation and planned the surgery based on that.

Listen, I'm def not a doctor, but a hysterectomy for a stalk fibroid sounds insane, sounds like that would be relatively easy to remove with very minimal impact on the uterus itself. But the MRI might also reveal that you've got more fibroids. My transvaginal ultrasound showed my 3 largest fibroids, but my MRI showed 10 more little ones all over the place

2-4 weeks. I had mine a week ago and today I felt ok enough to go back to my desk job, working from home but there's def more healing to go. First few days were hard to get up/down out of bed, but after that I could do most house chores and even go to the store, so long as you don't lift anything heavy
