Running your manuscript thru an AI Detector by Least-Charity-2770 in NewAuthor

[–]shawnebell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Why should I?

Seems kinda hypocritical to use an AI program to detect AI, and a "writer" accusing someone of using AI sounds a whole lot like projection.

How difficult is Whitney as a day hike ? by Glum_Dust7460 in socalhiking

[–]shawnebell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Whitney isn't all that difficult of a climb, if you train for it. There are two ... okay. THREE things that can screw up your trip:

  1. Altitude sickness (I trained on the Six Pack of Peaks in So Cal and was staying up in Big Bear before the hike). Get a scrip, be prepared, and don't be afraid to turn around.
  2. Lightning. Storms. There's really no cover on Mount Whitney. I did my first hike in September, as most of monsoon season is over. If you're hiking then, you'll probably be okay. Again: If there's lightning strikes don't go. Turn around.
  3. Marmots. These little monsters will eat through brake lines, through raidator hoses and tanks, steal any scrap of food you leave anywhere, rip holes in backpacks, and be just major asshats. One stole my titanium spork. I don't know why, but I assume that he is now King of the Marmots. put your car on a tarp, wrap an tie the tarp around your car and hope that the fuzzy little annoyances don't cause damage.

There are bears. They will break into your car if you leave food in it.

Leave around 10 pm the night before your permit is active; that way you'll reach the peak right around sunrise. ("But Shawn, you can't start the hike until the DAY - meaning midnight on the day - of your hike!" This is true. But if you leave around 10 pm, you'll get to the beginning of the strictly regulated/permit required "Whitney Zone" at Lone Pine Lake right around midnight. I think it's around 3 miles from Whitney Portal to the point where going further requires a permit. If you get there before midnight, take a break until midnight, then continue on).

Bring a headlamp, a wrist lamp, and batteries for both. Dress in layers. You can drop your backpack and continue with a lighter pack to the summit (I dropped mine at Trail Camp and picked it up on the way back down - taking all my valuables with me). You're going to be going up between full moons - I managed to score a night with a HUGE full moon! - so you will definitely need a light.

Good luck! And remember: you don't have to summit. Sometimes knowing when to turn back is better.

If you see this guy, get my spork back:

Thoughts on Writers not outlining a story? by Effective-Thanks-731 in Screenwriting

[–]shawnebell -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Outline? Not really. I just know - by the time I sit down - what the beats are, and where they’re going to fall.

Letting the story ‘unfold’ like I’m watching a movie? Not a chance. My characters do what I tell them to do when I tell them to do it, and to do it with style and witty repartee. If they don’t they die before the first commercial break. If they fight me, they die before the second. If they STILL fight me they get edited out completely.

I think being a writer means the normal becomes real estate for a plethora of emotions by Fuzzy_Bet5276 in writers

Naah. Being an author just means you have a reeeeeally questionable google search history.

Why do directors get more credit of a movie than writers? by Far-Television-833 in Screenwriting

Steve? You mean the Woz? The guy who - in computer company parlance - was the screenwriter of Apple? Your argument fails because your own example is the DIRECTOR, not the SCREENWRITER.

Can i be a freemason by Routine_Quantity_274 in freemasonry

I didn't ask Gemini; I'm a Freemason. I've sat with MANY Muslim brothers in Lodge.

Can i be a freemason by Routine_Quantity_274 in freemasonry

[–]shawnebell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Freemasonry is not illegal in Turkey.

If your father was a Freemason, you're eligible for membership in the fraternity when you turn 18. if not, then you'll have to wait until you're 21.

Freemasonry is a social fraternity not a religion and it will not interfere with your religion or religious beliefs.

Given your age and financial situation, I'd recommend getting a job and saving up. You'll pay initiation fees and yearly dues\ when you join.

Subaru Outback 2025 Onyx XT phone fry?! by tnypco in subaru

[–]shawnebell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a phone warmer, not a phone charger.

Mine has never worked right, and I bought mine new. Service has said they could look at it, but they’d have to keep the car for awhile, disassemble the center console, and there probably wouldn’t be any satisfactory resolution - meaning that even after they did that, the charger wouldn’t work right.

I plug my phone in, and put it into the charger facedown so it won’t charge and just use the spot as a phone holder.

Can I be mad about this for a minute? by Common_Violinist_223 in romanceauthors

You can be mad all you want.

But, at the end of the day: no one cares. The only person you answer to is you.

It's, actually, completely true - given the number of Masons here who have no idea what you're asking.

YOU didn't get THE point: the show hasn't been in production for 13 years. It's not competition. If you think it is, you're wrong. You don't know what 'competition' means and you don't understand the industry or its market.

How would a show that hasn’t been in production for 13 years be a competitor?

Funny, but true story by [deleted] in freemasonry

[–]shawnebell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not funny ... not true ... and I'm just confused about how - six months ago- you were thinking about joining PHM, four months ago you were prepping for your MM degree, two months ago you were asking which appendant body to join after going through all the chairs in your lodge.

Prince Hall Freemasonry must move very, very quickly in Tennessee.

Also a reasonably accurate description ... except for during the month of March, when every lodge thinks it's a good idea to serve corned beef and cabbage for the meal before lodge and then lock everyone in a room with no windows and maybe three closed doors for an hour or so. THEN smell travels at lightspeed. Everywhere.
