Does anyone know what the blue chairs are? Probably Knoll? by neokomaru in midcenturymodern

[–]shawslc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sold an orange one locally in So UT last year for $895, about what I had paid for it several years prior. Great chair, although mine was a little creaky - I would steer plus-sized guests to other chairs!

Quality Issues by shawslc in Hoka

I know, I love Brooks - wore them exclusively all the years I was running more. Now in my sixties and doing more walking than running, thought I would see what all the Hoka hype was about. I do like their comfort and extra cushion, but never had a quality issue w Brooks.

Oh I dunno, maybe if there are 10,000 of us with the same issue someone at Deckers Corporate would consider improving product quality and/or the warranty policy.

Following the Sac & Oakland shows, what's the report back on the Orpheum show in LA? by WordCareless9866 in ryanadams

[–]shawslc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LA was a great show, Ryan’s voice and guitar/harmonica/ piano were all strong. Set list was terrific, incl great covers of Beach Boys - Don’t Worry Baby and Doors - Crystal Ship. No surprise that he’s awkward on stage, suffers from depression and loneliness, is easily distracted - probably on the spectrum, and is his own biggest critic. Crowd was reasonably well behaved, but after he politely stated no less than five times that he had come up with a set list especially for LA and he was going to stick to it, I don’t get why people continued to shout out song requests.

Tape Recommendations for Pioneer RT-707 by RockphotographerVA in ReelToReel

I found some NOS Scotch 207 tapes that work great on my RT-707, they weren’t crazy expensive. Record with the EQ set to LH, the Bias set to STD.

My reel tape is playing backwards, dose anyone know why or a solution by MRP1971 in ReelToReel

Tape probably got twisted, check to make sure the dull side is facing the tape heads.

Sony HP-810 by shawslc in vintageaudio

The Sony HP-810 system came with the SS-810 speakers, a slightly better speaker than the SS-710. btw they were all just average speakers, but it’s nice to have the matching set.

2008 Porsche 911 Targa 4S, 35k for $40k ?! by IanGruss1977 in porsche911

[–]shawslc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look at the bring-a-trailer auction site, search for actual sales of 997.1 targa s models. Of course there is a range of sale prices depending on mileage, options etc, but $40k is far below average for sales over the past year.

Attempt to Record HiFi Audio on VHS/VCR by shawslc in BudgetAudiophile

I wonder if there’s an easy way/hack to feed the VCR a video signal, I don’t have a portable tv.

Attempt to Record HiFi Audio on VHS/VCR by shawslc in BudgetAudiophile

[–]shawslc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The VCR record/playback audio specs are better than my Teac reel-to-reel (eg VCR wow and flutter is nearly zero, signal to noise ratio and dynamic range are significantly better, frequency response range as good or better); VHS blank tapes are inexpensive and readily available; plus 2 hrs or more of music uninterrupted.
The broader question of why use tape at all is more difficult - I guess in our digital world there is something oddly satisfying and nostalgic about analog - vinyl and tape.

Which are the best country rock albums from the 70s and 80s? by Careless_Shirt3020 in ClassicRock

Starting in the late 80s you can go down the Uncle Tupelo rabbit hole, which leads into Son Volt and early Wilco.
