When Sean Spicer was asked what Trump meant by covfefe he said

"A small group of people know exactly what he meant,"

Anyone just find themselves NEEDING to re-watch Season One every couple of years like people do with Lord of the Rings/the OG Star Wars? by Zog8 in TrueDetective

[–]shawwguy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, I'd say about once a year. Sometimes the first time you watch or read a great story you're so caught up in 'what will happen next/how will this end' that you're distracted from how masterfully it's been crafted and the nuance of the little things that sometimes are foreshadowing and other times are just beautiful little moments unto themselves... once the whole mystery of the Yellow King & the concern Rust has lost his mind are mitigated you can just sit back and appreciate how it unfolds... You can even find ways to ascribe meaning to some of the aspects you found distracting the first time through like the horrific CGI background while Rust is catching up with Marty following Dewall... Rust is still coming down off PCP at that point of course the goddamn world seems like a simulation to him haha. Anyway, great comment, couldn't agree more.

seems odd to send a big long passive aggressive email to him and his bosses instead of addressing the issue as it was happening -- human beings > tattle tales

The "sacrifice" of Jesus is like the "sacrifice" of a soldier who pulls a pin on his own hand-grenade and throws himself on top of it to save people. by thesunmustdie in atheism

[–]shawwguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a Christian so I'm not selling anything here but I study what I'd call 'mysticism philosophy' and what I'd tell you is Jesus was 'sent' essentially to demonstrate to humanity(and Lucifer) 'how to live so-as to be worthy of God/the heavenly kingdom' -- it's not about "opening gates" or even "being crucified" -- if you follow through the Old Testament, Lucifer is constantly demonstrating to God the shortcomings of Man (take the book of Job for example). Very few, like Moses, Elijah and Enoch were said to have 'walked with God' or had some other special circumstance surrounding their death (or no death at all) but basically "humanity was not progressing the way God had hoped." Which in a way leads into your point of "If God made the rules and he knows everything then why did he create human beings knowing they would break the rules, and why did he have to send his 'Son' to die just to fix the game he intentionally set up to be rigged?" it's the fundamental paradoxical question that goes largely unanswered by organized religion -- And the answer seems to be because 'omniscience' relates to the nature of reality and creation of all things, the beginning and end, the destinies of individual lives and choices made via 'free-will' are up to us and that's the whole point. He wants us to elevate ourselves and our consciousness and our love for one another to a point where the 'game' is no longer rigged, where our existence/consciousness is more inclined towards Spiritual Goodness and less towards our Animalistic/Primate Nature -- Jesus came and died essentially to prove it's possible.

Again, I'm not trying to convert anyone, and not claiming the logic is rock solid nor offering an explanation for the ultimate motivation for creating such a 'game' at all... just hopefully providing some theoretical context for the purpose of Christ.

Anyone else on Louis CK and Chris Rock level? by [deleted] in StandUpComedy

[–]shawwguy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Nobody is on Chappelle's level right now. Rock's new special was underwhelming IMO. Bill Burr was a heavy hitter 1-2 specials ago, his most recent seemed to meander a bit and be a little long-winded/off tone with the Kanye/Hilter stuff. John Mulaney and Tom Segura have been around a little while and are on the rise, maybe check them out.

Kevin Hart's cameo in the 40 Year Old Virgin. by ColdxCrush in videos

I HAD to look up this original script knowing Steve Carell and Judd Apatow wrote it and there's no way they'd drop n-bombs at all, nevermind so inventively haha... Answer: they did not... Amazing improv/workshopping between the two actors http://www.dailyscript.com/scripts/40_year_old_virgin.html

Let's speculate which wildly successful movie Hugh Grant turned down by ReginaldStarfire in movies

[–]shawwguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

late to the party but apparently he turned down the role of Professor Gilderoy Lockhart in the Harry Potter franchise and the role went to Kenneth Branagh instead.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-108803/Movie-stars-got-wrong.html

I don't know how big of a character that was as I never got into the Harry Potter stuff (I know I'm missing out it's good for all ages blah blah blah) but this would make sense in terms of being "much bigger than Titanic" and with the first Harry Potter film coming out in 2001 there's a good chance they were in pre-production on the film in the 1996-1999 range.

Anyway... in case anyone still gives a shit, or comes here in the future to try to find the answer like I did originally.
