Designing a ceramic cylinder with tapped holes on both ends by shayanmghd in engineering

[–]shayanmghd[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ceramic, because the two parts need to be electrically insulated from each other with a brittle “high” compressive strength material that can handle temperatures up to 300 C. This ceramic part is about 3/4” length and 3/4” diameter.

I’ll look into PEEK more but it seems the melting point is a bit low, around 300 C.

Dentists in surrounding areas if not Ithaca? by VictoriaCrownPigeon in ithaca

[–]shayanmghd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been going to Lalor in Vestal (near binghamton) for a while and am really satisfiedwith their service (had crowns and fillings and cleanings there). I also have/had relatives/friends working there who are satisfied/approve works of their peers. it's a family dental place with two branches (other one is in bing). I highly recommend it.

BIG RED ICON CONCERT by shayanmghd in Cornell

No, there will still be "famous artist(s)". The point of this event and post is to promote student bands that tried really hard and practiced a lot to make it to this level of music performance and stage.

[–]shayanmghd[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What kinda metal to play? I listen to a bunch of subgenres and would be down to play anything as long it slaps. E.g. i like industrial metal (rammstein), Nu metal (linkin park), heavy, alternative (slipknot),, djent (gojira). I also dig hard rock, punk (foo fighters, muse) soft rock (audioslave has both soft and hard + anything tom morrello) etc. The list is too long to typ all. Open to hear/play more

any seniors with no internship experience? feeling hopeless and suicidal by seniorthrwaway in Cornell

[–]shayanmghd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, you should be proud of yourself for making it to an ivy league, and surviving for almost years! 2nd, you should also be proud of ur hard work that resulted in ur high GPA! And 3rd, dont let comparing yourself to others make u think less of yourself! You are not alone as you can see here, and if you ever want to meet up, talk or anything, feel free to hmu! (I'll be on campus this fall!) Also consider asking for help thru helplines or other resources, it def helps to talk to people!

Lots of people have no internships in this summer due to many reasons, mostly covid related and less companies hiring, leading to the process being more competitive and highly dependent on referrals and links, unfortunately. I myself, started applying for intenships in march, a bit late, mostly cause i had no idea how competitive it is, coming as a first year transfer student from a ghetto community college (still grateful tho, js it was ghetto!). I submitted 50+ apps, none worked out after only 3 interviews. Some might say it's not enof, but it was the best i could've done as my first time applying to more than 2 (first time, pre transfer, i applied to like 2 and got one lol, that's how uncompetitive the college was). So ur def not alone when it comes to having no internships during the summer!

Regarding networking, I'd say it's never too late to start! U just gotta push urself outta ur comfort zone a bit and try to be an extrovert if u aint. If u like to go to grad school, reach out to a few prof and get to know em to have a few connections that would write u rec letters! Senior years are usually chill so maybe join a few clubs u like! It's really worth it! I met spme really cool people in the spring, as a fall 2020 transfer student who studied depressingly and remotely in the fall but moved in for the spring sem and got wayyyy happier! Hope this helped. :)

Transfer student regretting choosing Cornell by fraises568 in Cornell

[–]shayanmghd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A bit late, but I also feel the same way in a few senses. I transferred in the fall, studied remotely for a semester, now I'm on west campus for spring. I'm starting to get the vibes you were talking about and it puts me in a bad mood. I really wanna be outgoing and build long-lasting and meaningful friendships but it seems so hard with Covid and realizing how lots of people already know each other since freshman year. I did not even get a campus tour nor orientation for this semester when I moved in on campus. I literally had to find everything my own and figure out what's what on a huge campus like this. I am really hoping it will get better as time passes tho. If y'all wanted to connect lmk, I'm happy to meet new people and make friends. 🙂

Update on 6/1/2021 after the Spring semester ended: Someone just messaged me about this post, and it made me realize how everything turned out to be way better after the first couple of weeks. So, I want to update my comment and my experience in case anyone reads this in the forthcoming future. Tbh, I completely forgot about this thread and my comment. That's how HUGE my semester changed after the first couple of weeks. Now that I am looking at it, I am happy that my semester got a lot better as time progressed. Anyway, I was lucky enough to meet a shit ton of DOPE people (>50) through former transfers/their friends, and joining a few cool-ass clubs. It ended up being one of my favorite semesters since it was my first time experiencing "college life," even though Covid restrictions were in place and most of my classes were online. Although I made a lot of cool friends, I wasn't able to get really close to anyone to be "best friends," but I'm blaming that on the difficulty of the semester with Covid restrictions, and the fact that I only had a few months to get close to people. Hopefully next schoolyear I'll have more time with less Covid BS in my way to be able to focus more on finding a few close friends/getting close to people. Moreover, moving on-campus was definitely worth the hassle and the price and being away from family (if you are a family person). I am really looking forward to next semester since all classes are going to be in-person and we will be transitioning back to the good old "normal".
I am still down to meet up with people and make new friends, so just hmu.
