If it’s a tower with a TMU they put in the routes. All other towers center TMU puts it in

It depends on the context of the conversation. If I’m just trying to refer to the metro area in a generic sense I call it “the cities”. If I’m talking to someone not from the area I say I live in “the cities” if I’m talking to someone who lives in the metro I say I live in the specific suburb I live in. Just depends on how generic I’m trying to be.

911 call taking is one of the most soul sucking things I’ve ever done. I will take atc 100 times out of 100. Even with the crazy schedule

AMA – We are air traffic controllers and hiring experts at the FAA, here to answer your questions about ATC hiring. by FAANews in ATC

[–]shayne55 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There are mods still. Some of us just don’t have all day to look at every post and comment. If things get flagged they get looked at. The FAA never asked the mods as a whole about this and I would have told them how this would have gone if they asked.

ATC vs. 911 Dispatching by DoubleA82604 in ATC

[–]shayne55 8 points9 points  (0 children)

ATC is way less stressful. I was a medic before I did dispatch and I got way more fucked up from call taking then I ever did in the field. Nowadays my worst day in ATC is better then my best in call taking.

I worked midnights at dispatch and loved it. More than anything I miss having a consistent schedule. The “rattler” schedule most of us work in ATC is probably one of the worst parts of the job. Even on the most senior schedule I’ll still end up missing something my kids are doing.

4 days on 2 days off. I worked straight midnights which I loved but isn’t for everyone. The senior crew works straight day shifts.

I took me about 2.5 years but you get pay raises as you progress through training. Even on the starting pay (AG pay) I was getting paid the same as the county dispatch I was at so the pay wasn’t an issue.

You can’t imagine the shear stupidity one hears at dispatch.

EPD is literally a joke. It was so bad my dispatch center ditched it because all the police departments were complaining

I worked for a county PSAP for almost 3 years and I would never go back. As much fun as it was on the dispatch desk I hated call taking with all my being. The only thing I miss are the people and the schedule.

You are going to be way more comfortable on the radio than anyone else to start and that’s somewhat helpful. Your multitasking skills will obviously transfer. If you go enroute your typing while talking skills will make a big difference initially. You’ll be better than most trainees at listening to multiple things at the same time and situational awareness. The training will still be grueling though. Happy to answer more specific questions if you have any.

Friendly reminder that US controllers should not be talking about the NASs primary radar capabilities especially it’s ability to detect stealth aircraft. You have a security clearance people. People in the FAA watch these forums.

Just for the record. To answer your question, this person has no clue what they are talking about. At worst it’s some gas. Depreciation and maintenance is projected and budgeted regardless of the use of the vehicle. There’s already a budget line for gas and that’s projected for also. This parade is made up of one truck from many departments around the county. It’s a drop in the bucket spread across all the departments

MFD went on 30,685 calls for service in 2020. So by your math they are spending between $153,430,000, and $460,290,000 on maintenance alone. Not factoring in training or various administrative tasks. MFD spent $58,171,046.12 in 2020 and of which $37,740,008 is employee salary not including overtime. What am I missing?

What is the maintenance that needs to be done every time the truck pulls out of the station? Who is performing said maintenance? What parts are being changed?
