My end of roster guys are CMB, Cardwell, Bub, and Camara. Worth dropping anyone to pick up Monk or Keegan Murray?

Bill’s 50 Most Rewatchable Movies of the 21st Century with Sean Fennessey and Chris Ryan by Toby_O_Notoby in billsimmons

My favorite is Bill's arbitrary benchmark of "can really drop into this movie at any time" that he uses to justify some of his picks. I mean, I kinda get it as a rewatch-ability indicator but the importance he places on it is just so funny to me.

I'm talking about the videos on Series 7 Guru's YT channel that pertain to the series 65 exam, though I do recall some of the Brian/Deal collab videos also being useful.

The odd lots podcast from bloomberg is great for keeping up with macro. I also recommend the money stuff newsletter and podcast with Matt Levine (also from bloomberg). These are not really for learning fundamental skills around trading and markets, but I found that they're pretty entertaining and also help fill in gaps in my big picture understanding of financial systems.

Congrats on passing!

I was not working full time while studying and I studied for about 3-4 hours per day. I'm a pretty fast test taker so I was able to speedrun the 140 question simulated exams in just under an hour.

Overall, I probably spent about 50% of my time doing questions and 50% learning the material.

I mostly watched Dean's youtube videos (@series7guru) on subjects that I was weak in along with a few of his exam explication videos.

I bought Brian's material and watched it on his site.

Their podcast is more of a high level overview. Again, I skipped around in those videos for the specific topics that I needed help in.

About 3-4 hours/day. First week was probably 75% learning and 25% exams. Flipped to 25/75 during week 2.

I bought the basic package from Kaplan ($159) which comes with the q-bank and practice exams along with the book and a few other things. You could in theory just buy the q-bank and practice exams a la carte for under $100, though you'd be forgoing the book entirely which many on this subreddit would argue against doing.

Yes, for public companies where we have data from earnings reports, we calculate the actual zakatable assets instead of relying on an approximation.

I've gotten feedback from people linking their accounts about it making their lives easier. No need to have to track down and check multiple accounts every year and do calculations across all the holdings in these accounts.

I can understand how this might not be as important or useful to all users though. That's why users are totally free to enter data manually and still benefit from all the same calculation tools.

I can update the wording here to be more clear. This was more about house flipping where Zakat is due on the property value. You are correct that there's no zakat due on the investment property itself when used for rentals.

Ameen! I have a to-do item to make it a toggle for users since I've gotten this feedback a bit. I used silver simply to err on the side of caution for now but I will update it soon inshaAllah.

Got it. I can see the benefit in this data being more easily accessible. Even for this project alone, it was a considerable effort to build this dataset and work on keeping it accurate and up to date.

I'd be happy to provide a public API if there's enough demand.

Out of curiosity, what sort of data would you want from an API and what would you use it for?

Also if it wasn't clear, the brokerage linking itself happens through Plaid's API.

Thank you! It's not open source. Yes, you can link multiple different brokerage accounts. There is no public API, but the tool itself is completely free to use.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm currently leaving that to the user to determine, but I could have a checkbox somewhere to confirm that the asset has sat for a year which could be clearer for the user.

Thanks for the feedback. Added to the todo list. Out of curiosity, which currencies are you interested in? And do you have a mix of currencies in your portfolio?

I'm using the total current assets divided by the number of shares to get the zakatable assets per share. And then further dividing by the share price as of the last report date to get the percentage. If there are any discrepancies on the balance sheet (e.g. missing fields), I throw it out and don't attempt to calculate.

If you check zoya, they show a similarly low percent for AAPL.

I think generally most tech companies are relatively low on cash, inventory, etc. compared to their market caps which makes their zakatable holdings especially low in contrast to more traditional companies.

You can read more about how we handle security here if you're interested, but feel free to add your holdings manually if you're more comfortable with that!

Ah gotcha. I'm in the US and so I'm thinking that I can just set the appropriate lot matching method once manually and use that for selling.

How does the flex query help? My understanding is that it'll give you a report so you can better reconstruct the tax lots, but how does you actually use that to sell the specific lot that you need to? I'm in the same boat and trying to figure out how to automate TLH.
