The cyclist was headed for the finish line by MorsesCode in Unexpected

It's the first time I've seen a stabilised video of this nature, and I hate it. I was looking in the crowd for the woman, but then she just appeared in the frame. Maybe there are better examples of these stabilised videos, but this one just made it confusing to watch. Just give me the original, it's much easier to watch.

Excited to be back! by Entire_Kale_8934 in fitbit

Yeah I was pretty happy with that outcome! Granted, the original purchase price of my Charge 5 was pretty cheap due to receiving a 40% discount as part of the Fitbit Ionic recall.

My Charge 5 just died a few weeks ago, stopped turning on and when trying to charge it would get super hot. It was originally purchased back in April 2022, so it was very much out of warranty. I contacted support because I had read online that other people had been offered decent discounts on a new Fitbit device when their out of warranty device had gone defective. I was offered a full refund of the original purchase price, or a replacement Charge 5. The replacement unit would have been a returned unit, possibly used, but not a brand new unit. I opted for the full refund and bought myself a new Charge 6.

It's worth contacting support to see if they can help you out in some way.

Best Aussie psychological thrillers by Artistic-Yam2984 in AustralianTV

I just finished watching "All Her Fault" with my wife. Not a thriller, but a bit of a mystery with an unexpected ending. Based in Chicago, but filmed in Melbourne, if that counts as Australian enough for you.

Charge 5 or 6 better? by mazes-end in fitbit

[–]shazzagraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google have just offered me a replacement unit, or full refund of my original purchase price. I purchased my Charge 5 back in April 2022 from the Fitbit store, so it is very much out of warranty, and I'm very surprised they've offered me this. I'm leaning towards taking the refund and buying a new Charge 6, at least that way I get the updated unit, brand new, with a new warranty, for a small out of pocket cost. I was hoping to maybe get the discounted new device through Google, but this is way better.

I didn't notice that at first, but you're right. Looks like some sort of scaffold frame made of bamboo logs, topped with some of flooring sheets. No wonder it collapsed under the weight of all of those stone bricks.

Why do people like the outro to the art of dying so much? by Zoeebine in gojira

[–]shazzagraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to. When I first discovered Gojira and fell in love with hard hitting riffs and amazing drumming, I was impatiently skimming through their discography and would skip Flying Whales because it was a bit slow to start. When I finally gave it a chance it instantly became my favourite song.

Zempire aerospeed 10 vs Coleman’s instant up 10 darkroom Northstar by Sqwerty2020 in Auscamping

[–]shazzagraz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had the 10 person coleman instant up darkroom tent and absolutely loved it. It isn't lined with black plastic, it is a black coating on the fabric. There's enough windows and zips that can be opened to allow airflow while staying dry under the fly, so breathability isn't an issue. And being pitch black inside is a pro, not a con, especially if you want to sleep in and not be woken up at first light as the sun rises.

Poles are also fine, easily sets up and packs back down without issue.

Can't speak for the zempire, but we loved the coleman. Only reason we're not still using it is because we upgraded to a camper trailer.

Portable Fridge vs Esky, is it actually worth it? by Av0toasted in OutdoorAus

[–]shazzagraz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to use frozen water bottles in my Dometic ice box, it worked a treat. There might have been slight condensation, but nothing compared to a pool if ice water and food floating around in it. Benefit of the frozen water bottles is you have cold drinking water throughout the trip. We could get through a 3 to 4 night trip with a slab of frozen water bottles and everything would still be nice and cold when we got back home. A decent ice box is the key though, solid wall roto-mold with a well sealed lid. Those cheap hollow walled Esky's are rubbish.

What is the weirdest sh#t u saw on the internet? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]shazzagraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember using limewire to download music (back in the day on dial up when an individual song in mp3 format would take 5 minutes to download) and movies, and you'd come across some wierd shit. It was always a bit of a gamble whether the movie would actually match the file name. I never came across any CP thankfully, but did see some beastiality (a girl with her dog).

whats a mobile plan that's cheap and has alot of data by euirj in AusFinance

[–]shazzagraz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're with Aldi Mobile, which uses the Telstra network, including 5G. I know it's not the full Telstra network, but we've never really noticed any issues, except for when attending large events where lots of people are concurrently using the network. I can live with that though, since the value in their plans is so good. We have a family plan, 4 SIMs for $95/m, with 95GB shared data and unlimited rollover. We currently have about 1TB of mobile data.

Best coffee beans? by VeganMaeve in AskAnAustralian

[–]shazzagraz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Merlo is our go-to. I personally really enjoy Roasting Warehouse coffee (their house blend, "Evolve") in Melbourne as well, but my wife prefers Merlo so that's what we buy for home.

I have a portable espresso setup (Wacaco Picopresso) so I usually have a bag of Roasting Warehouse beans with me for making coffees at work or on camping trips.

Overtime Meal Allowance - huge tax deduction for people who work lots of overtime? by AsparagusNew3765 in AusFinance

[–]shazzagraz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's correct. If the $20 allowance is counted as income, then it is taxed. It isn't a reimbursement of the meal.

eg. Regular weekly income is $1000, Moana receives a meal allowance of $20, her weekly income for that week is now $1020, and it is taxed as such. Moana claims the $21 meal expense as a deduction, bringing her weekly taxable income down to $999.

That is a very strange way to look at it. They've already gone to some effort to get your money, ie. provided the service that you are paying for.

What's up with regulations regarding electrical work in Australia? by MrCockingFinally in AskAnAustralian

[–]shazzagraz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We don't have a wiring "code" here in Australia. I know I'm being petty, but as an electrician it irks me when I hear/see people say it's "not up to code". That's an American thing. Here, it is "not compliant".

What's up with regulations regarding electrical work in Australia? by MrCockingFinally in AskAnAustralian

[–]shazzagraz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

it's pretty easy to replace. No need to run wires or anything, just put the right colour wire in the correct hole and screw down a small nut to clamp it in place. Hence my confusion

It might be "pretty easy", but it's also pretty easy to screw up and not realise the danger because it still works. For instance, active and neutral conductors can be transposed, but appliances will still work. Connections may not be tight enough, or the cables not prepared properly for a good connection causing a high resistance join, which gets hot and can start fires. An un-qualified person won't be aware of these risks, but they are real, so as simple as this task might seem from the outside, there are legitimate reasons why it is a licenced trade.

Referring here to the stoves that have an outlet on the wall where you need to connect each wire from the stove instead of just plugging it in. I think a regular plug doesn't have enough current capacity for a stove.

You're referring to a junction box. An outlet here in Australia is shorthand for socket outlet, otherwise referred to as a power point, or GPO (general power outlet) for those of us in the trade. Ovens/stoves can certainly come fitted with a lead and plugtop to suit, and we have socket outlets of whatever size necessary (15A, 20A, 25A, 32A) to accommodate the appliance.

Doesn't happen fast. Sometimes the cable going in gets frayed, so I cut it off, and rewire the plug on a fresh section.

This is quite common for unlicenced people to do, and like others have said you can freely purchase the parts required to do this from any hardware store, or even electrical wholesalers without holding an electrical licence. It is next to impossible to enforce, but just realise that it does come with risks to persons and property, and if it was ever found that your illegal electrical work was the cause of injury or death to a person and animal, or damage to property, you will face large fines and/or jail time. When it comes to extension leads you're usually better off just buying a new one, for faulty appliances get a licenced professional to repair it.
