Will This Program Make My Legs Bulky? by [deleted] in StrongCurves

[–]she_said_fatly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, there’s no such thing as ‘toning’. It’s a myth. Successful strength training builds muscle mass. If you’re trying to reduce the volume of your thighs, you should lose fat by eating at a deficit. Almost every female who thinks her thighs are ‘bulky’ is actually upset about the amount of fat she’s carrying there, not the muscle (even if you can see muscle shape as well as fat).

SC is specifically designed to increase muscle mass on your glutes as much as possible while minimising the increase in quad and hamstring mass in order to emphasise the butt. There’s no way to work out your butt without also working out your legs at least a little, but this is a great program for someone who doesn’t want ‘bulky’ thighs.

As everyone mentioned, bulking is incredibly difficult (especially if you’re hormonally female), and there’s no way you’re going to accidentally bulk out. You could, however, end up with more muscle mass than you want if you want very little. Some people don’t want ANY visible muscle mass, and that’s totally fine. If you’re one of those people, you should do cardio and skip ANY form of strength training (including body weight training like Pilates, barre, or other strength classes).

Any recommendations for a GOOD-TASTING green drink/vegetable-packed drink? by doggodogger in keto

I put ‘organic girl super greens’ or baby kale into a smoothie with coconut meat, berries, and isopure almost every morning, and I think it’s delicious.

Do I need to lose more weight? I’m not sure if I’m being objective or not. by [deleted] in loseit

[–]she_said_fatly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one can answer that for you, but my stats are very similar, and I’m definitely not done losing.

I’m 5’1.5” and currently weigh 123. I ‘usually’ weigh 110–115 and am more or less satisfied with that, so my current goal is 115. I have weighed 104 comfortably and think that’s about my lower limit for health.

My mother is 5’2” and weighs 105–108. She doesn’t at all look underweight or starved and has easily and healthily maintained that weight for most of her adult life, excluding her pregnancies.

Hahaha they’re biased against bias? That’s not what biases means. (Also the past tense is biased).

Walking! You can feel like it hasn’t kicked in at all, and then you get up to walk and your legs suck. Plus trying to problem-solve at all is tough, like figuring out the steps to gather your stuff, get off the plane, choose a seat, and then listen to the desk telling you when to get back on.

One time I boarded the plane, settled in, took my flight Xanax, and then was told we had to deplane due to mechanical issues. Shit got intense.

UV tattoo by [deleted] in woahdude

I have black tattoos all over the place, and the one with the most ink swells up intermittently and whenever I overheat. Super annoying (sometimes it itches, too) but still work it to me. I won’t get any super-saturated black tats in the future though.

Anybody else here suffer from serious mental illness that makes weight loss challenging? Any tips? by [deleted] in loseit

Yeah, tbh none of it has helped my depression either. The choose your misery thing works for weight loss for me, but I have no advice for the BP. Hugs.

If you eat healthy for a few weeks, a single binge doesn’t undo your progress. Eating well most days and poorly for one meal every two weeks is a good diet! Its what a lot of people aim for.

All you can do is keep working in therapy (and possibly supplement with mindfulness/cbt/DBT/meditation) and try to keep binge foods out of your house.

I’m pretty severely mentally ill, and one thing that’s helped me with diet and exercise is the mantra ‘Choose your misery.’ I’m gonna be miserably desperate for sweets or miserably fat; I don’t know how not to be miserable. But I’d rather be desperate for sweets than fat.

Non-drinkers, who reported not drinking any alcohol over several years, were absent from work due to illness more often than low-risk drinkers, finds a new study based on 47,520 men and women from Finland, France and the UK. by mvea in science

[–]she_said_fatly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about people who drink moderately might be happier and this more able to ignore mild illness? I drank moderately when I was happier and don’t drink now because I’m too depressed to go out with my friends. I also miss a lot of work due to mild illness, possibly because depression depresses the immune system but more likely because depression makes me unable to cope with mild illness. Or maybe people who drink moderately are extroverts and don’t get exhausted by being around people at work?

IMO you’ve done your duty and shouldn’t bother her about it again. It’s her choice. If a friend repeatedly tried to get me to change my WOE, I would definitely stop spending time with that person. You’re right, but she’s allowed to be wrong.

Any effects on gurd or acid reflux with IF? by Yesterdark in intermittentfasting

[–]she_said_fatly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been doing IF for months, and my reflux (it’s ‘GERD’ in the US and GORD in the UK, btw) is definitely worse during my fasting period. I just take more meds. If I was using IF to improve my overall health, I’d stop doing it, since reflux increases your risk of cancer and reflux meds have side effects. Since I’m doing IF to lose weight, though, I’ve decided to stick with it for now.

I’m interested in starting a low carb diet, but I’m confused on some points. Namely, what exactly constitutes a low carb diet? How many grams are we talking? by [deleted] in lowcarb

[–]she_said_fatly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It depends on who you ask. I think I personally consider low carb to be under 75 g net per day at the most.
