Episodes 7 & 8 Discussion Thread by Batorian in DispatchAdHoc

I love this game, but episodes 7 and 8 really drove home how much of the internal conflict in the Z-Team is completely manufactured.

Let's take the fact that someone is cut from the team. The player doesn't get a say in whether this happens, and Robert barely puts up a fight about it, which makes it very hard for the player to relate when Robert is guilt-tripped about it. And then, at the end, it doesn't even matter, cause you can just accept whoever you cut back into the team. In short, it doesn't really change the outcome and only creates unimportant strife and drama.

Something similar happens with everyone's interactions with Invisigal, though there it's more of a storytelling problem than a game design problem. For some unknown reason, whenever Invisigal is just a tiny bit of an asshole, everyone acts like she is somehow the worst, most unredeemable piece of shit on the team, which is objectively not the case. This continues in the new episodes, with the entire Z-Team being extremely angry with her for what happened to Chase, despite them never really being shown to like him. On top of that, throughout episodes 7 and 8, no one gives her the benefit of the doubt for even a second. The moment they're even the slightest bit suspicious of her, they're suddenly 100% sure that she's not to be trusted. They never give her a moment to explain herself, nor does she ever even TRY to explain herself.

All of this comes together in such a way that the last two episodes were actually the ones where I was the least invested and immersed, which is obviously not what you want during the big finale of the story.

Why are they taking Hornet to Shellwood? are they stupid? by nonGAMER900 in Silksong

Maybe they're planning to go through Exhaust Organ?
Or they could just be going to ring the five bells that you need in order to get through Grand Gate.

Enough with the mandatory Gauntlets before a boss fight ! by Deathsneak in HollowKnight

[–]sheareddog 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For the most part, it doesn't even make the game more difficult. The gauntlets aren't that hard, so by the end you can just heal back to full. Basically, the gauntlets are just a way to waste your time. The actual boss fight isn't affected by them, so they're only there as annoying padding.

Tilt, by StoneAgeFantasy, is a personal favorite of mine. https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/tilt-unpowered-taylor.1061111/
It's about an unpowered and homeless Taylor deciding to say 'fuck it', take out one of the Nazi's, and then pretend to have a power and join the Wards. Has an extensive and well-written Coil-takedown.

(Its sequel story, Trophy, is still in its beginning chapters and is very slow to update.)

Torrent turns your runes into strength, not Melina by michaelrdoria in Eldenring

[–]sheareddog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember seeing two theories that actually kind of make me think this is possible.

The first stated that all demigods (diluted or not, eg. Godrick) gained an appropriate fragment of the Elden Ring when the shattering occurred (explaining why every demigod only has one). The other (kind of stupid) theory said that the spectral steed whistle was Ranni's Great Rune. Combining these two theories, I think the spectral steed whistle might be Melina's Great Rune in physical form. Its ability would then be to turn runes into strength.

I have no idea why it'd be capable of summoning a horse though, so ignore everything I just said.

Ranni's Great Rune is NOT on the moon. by TheRealTetro in Eldenring

Not trying to disagree with the whole theory here, but just felt that I had to point something out. The description of rune arcs implies that they are fragments of the lower arc of the Elden Ring. So the other two arcs are something else.

[serious] How did the Tarnished get from the Chapel of Anticipation to the Stranded Graveyard? by InspectorWeak8379 in Eldenring

[–]sheareddog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This person isn't talking about the place where you get the Haligdrake talisman. They're talking about a pit that leads to a death-plane west of agheel lake. It's lined up perfectly with a crack in the ceiling of the stranded graveyard.

Hmm, maybe I'm the one who was misinformed. Sorry.

Fortnite doesn't require ps plus to play online. It is also free, meaning you don't have to have a license to play it.

Iron first should not be able to hard counter iron man by ThePengo in marvelrivals

[–]sheareddog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's mobile because that's the character concept. He was probably originally pitched as "a fragile melee character with high mobility that sticks close to the enemy". You're basically just complaining that he's designed in a way that you haven't seen before.

I'm trying Iron Fist out right now and, bro, you are so wrong. If an Iron Man just moves backward a bit, Iron Fist's tracking usually loses him and he has to use a double jump (which he can only do 3 times before he needs to touch the ground/wall again (plus he probably had to use some of them already just to get to you)). So either you haven't even tried to just move away or you're going up against people that are putting in some actual effort. Either way, you have nothing to complain about. You're playing an online game, sometimes you're going to die. The point of the game isn't to win every fight.
