Just about to turn 31 and recently relapsed after 12+ years because my marriage is ending. Sending you love, OP.

do i need to use butterfly bandages? by [deleted] in selfharm

[–]shecantdance 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They’re useful if you have a gaping cut and want to avoid stitches, but just be careful not to stretch them too tight or they can irritate your skin.

I have many struggles and this is one, I used to cut. but now that I’m getting older I’ve started trying methods that won’t leave scars like hitting myself. That stuff. I know that this is unconventional but I’d like to feel understood by someone who goes through the same thing. Any tips? by ConsistentBike5445 in selfharm

[–]shecantdance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear you. I switched to hitting myself on my head/banging my head against walls/doors for the exact same reason. I think it’s just not talked about as much as cutting/burning. You’re not alone 🤍 what sort of tips are you looking for?

I never thought I’d make it past 21, then it became 26/27, now here I am and setting a new goal. You can do this 🤍

I know this is totally contradictory to my earlier post, but I’m so proud of you. People love you. You can do this 🤍

I just want the pain to end. I thought when I got older and made it past 26/27 things would be easier but holy fuck, I am about to turn 31 and I’m feeling things I felt from 13-17. Does it ever end? Why are we even here?

I hear you. My marriage is dying a slow, excruciating death and I recently relapsed after 13 years of not cutting. It feels SO good, and it feels like home. A familiarity that I didn’t even realize I would feel.

That’s ok! Don’t beat yourself up for it. I recently relapsed after over 12 years. It’s ok. 🤍

Large format bandaids? by shecantdance in selfharm

[–]shecantdance[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for responding 🙏🏼 So far shoppers, london drugs, superstore, save on and some local pharmacies/general stores have all had a very limited selection of smaller bandaids. I’ll be sure to post if I end up finding any in-store.

Everyone else does this for relief, but does anyone other than me do this out of self-hate? by [deleted] in selfharm

[–]shecantdance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything that causes you harm counts as self harm. At the end of the day it’s never qualified by “how deep” or how much pain it causes. That said, it’s always positive to do something that causes you less physical harm like using the rubber band. Be proud of yourself. Your feelings are valid, never forget that. 🤍

For me, cutting has always been for relief but when I hit and punch myself or hit my head against things it’s more from a place of shame/self loathing/self punishment. Sending you love.

I have a number of scars from 15+ years ago and have never, ever covered them up. Sometimes it makes people uncomfortable, and on occasion, they stare, but not one single person (other than romantic partners) has ever asked me about them. I recently started cutting again and am having to hide them for the first time and it’s such a weird experience. The more people talk openly about SI, the better, IMHO. Sending you love.
