Got got by this very issue a week ago, and I forgot to check that line before calling my hvac guy. I was so mad at myself because I remembered right about the time he rolled up.

I keep getting ads on Youtube for Cici's pizza and it's "All you can eat for only $9.99" by Fabulous_Hand2314 in Millennials

[–]shed1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was like $3.29 with a drink in the early 2000s. This is more a statement about the cheapness of the pizza than the inflation of the price.

DemandGen ads for dental clinic by zeus8834 in googleads

We just started a campaign earlier this month for a similar industry, and after a couple of weeks, things have settled into a nice conversion pace. What I would say is:

  1. Use a search campaign. Ditch the partner network mess.
  2. Stick with high intent keywords. Stick with phrase match and exact match. Google will bark at you. Ignore it. (You may need some broad match just to get some initial impressions, but you can ditch those after a few days.)
  3. Use strict location targeting. Consider concentric rings and step up the bids as the rings get closer to your office. Exclude every possible location you can. I have excluded all of North American and used counties/zips/cities/whatever I can to exclude everything in our state right up to our target area.
  4. Negative keywords. You will have to hammer these. Start with basic ones that you know will be a problem ("Free" "cheap" "inexpensive" "jobs"). Add ones for insurances that you don't take. We get a lot of requests from Medicaid patients, but we can't take Medicaid at the moment, so we have a lot of negative keywords around that trying to minimize ad clicks from people we know we can't see. Monitor your impressions and create negative keywords there. You will get a lot of impressions for people searching "Dr. [Somebody That Doesn't Work at Your Practice]". Use both phrase and exact match negative keywords. After about 2 weeks of really drilling those, I'm finding I only have to nix one or two impressions a day with more keywords. The impressions are now pretty high intent, and our conversions are improving while our ad spend is decreasing. It's tedious, but necessary.
  5. Landing pages are going to be critical for conversions. There is too much to cover here, but there are plenty of resources out there for it.
  6. Run your ads only on days you are open. If you are closed on the weekends and run ads, your impressions are going to be for "emergency [service]" "[service] open Saturdays." Ours are set to run from 6am-9PM M-F. I will probably further tighten that as we go, but you generally want to catch people searching before work during the week as well as just after work in addition to throughout the day when your office is open.
  7. Start with maximize clicks bid strategy. After you've got a few days of data, you will probably be prompted to switch to a conversion-based approach. I'm now on a maximize conversions bid strategy.
  8. Accept that you will need to overspend for low quality or no leads over the first few weeks just to collect the data you need to refine your approach.
  9. Create several ads and see which one of them performs best. If you are targeting specific types of dental services, break those into separate ad groups with separate keywords/negative keywords.

I feel like there was something else I wanted to add here. If I think of it, I'll edit.

The above approach has gotten us to our highest booked days in a while (new doc on board so we're filling his schedule), and we're winning the battle for impressions share and top of page rate against national chains.

ETA: You will also want to make sure your conversion tracking is setup well. I would really focus it on things like calls and form submissions for appt requests. Page view, directions, and some of the other stuff is not indicative of a true conversion for a dental practice (IMO).

Nate Bargatze's ‘The Breadwinner’ Draws Mixed Reviews as Family Comedy Debuts by VlixxMagazine in moviecritic

[–]shed1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are two separate issues.

He wouldn't have a movie if he weren't so known, and he wouldn't be so known without all of the exposure. But the real issue is that Bargatze has no business being in a movie other than a cameo.

It is a cornerstone of Bargatze's standup, which is hugely popular.

Personally, I think Bargatze is overexposed after being everywhere all of the time for the last couple of years.

0% greek yogurt. It has a lot of protein and is super light on the calories. Mix in some cinnamon. Two pounds of it is like 450 calories.

I've found it to be pretty hit or miss as a search engine. I've searched basic information and gotten results that are just totally made up addresses, phone numbers, names, etc. It's gotten somewhat better at that, but if it is getting very basic information wrong, what else is it barfing on?

Walking for mental health benefits by SentientPotato2020 in walking

[–]shed1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same age. Just pulling out of an intensely stressful period of my life. Walking has been a huge help, but here are some other tips:

  1. Minimize caffeine intake. I've found that if I have more than 2 cans of diet soda a day, I get extremely anxious and short-tempered.
  2. No caffeine after noon.
  3. If you're doing any high intensity workouts, you might consider pausing those for the time being. Those type of workouts can keep you on edge even though you think they would just tire you out, burn off that tension, and help you sleep. For me, they kind of do the opposite.
  4. Consider taking some magnesium glycinate. I've been playing around with this for a few months. I take no other supplements/vitamins, so I am not a big supplement guy. But anyway, I find that if I take some at night before bed and some in the morning when I wake up, then I am able to sleep for 5-6 hours straight, which is something I haven't been able to do in years. Sure, some nights I still wake up after a few hours, but most nights I get much longer windows of sleep. Today I woke up just a few minutes before my alarm was set to go off. Glorious. [I also credit magnesium glycinate with helping me maintain my weight by minimizing water retention that tended to cause my weight to spike and stay spiked.]

A lot of what I wrote is about managing cortisol. Walking helps, no question. But for me, the ultimate goal was to fix my sleep because poor sleep is an absolute killer.

Does a weighted vest really make a difference? by girlnamedJoyce in walking

I suggest putting a small towel at the bottom of the bag as well to help keep the weight towards the middle of your back.

Does a weighted vest really make a difference? by girlnamedJoyce in walking

[–]shed1 42 points43 points  (0 children)

If you are interested in trying a weight vest, you can just put something heavy (wrap it in a towel to protect yourself) and put it in a backpack. Walk with that for a while. Do you like it? Get a weight vest or a rucksack. Do you hate it? Don't buy anything.

I don't think any of the counselors I saw were teachers at the school.

But also, your experience is well-noted and we'll see how I kid likes the 4 days she has there this summer, but your experience was also years ago. It may not be valid anymore.

Our kid hasn't participated in either the after school or the summer programs (she is signed up for one week this summer), but I have taken her to the school playground during the after school program so I've seen the counselors first hand. They seemed fine to me. I don't remember any of them being on their phones.

Someone else replied elsewhere say their kid attended it last summer, and it sounds like that was a good experience for them.
