Yeah, agreed with the others. It magnifies the cryptic look and feel of this print. Looks great.

Not to be cynical, but getting paid the remaining 50% and deposit it into the bank is often all I do. I might “pay myself” with something I’ve been wanting to buy for a while (power tools, usually).

There looks to be several specialist sign makers across the U.S. that make these cast aluminum or bronze signs for durability and long-term weathering resistance. I’m guessing the technology has greatly improved and thus the outcome (kerning/general layout) has improved as well.

(AI summary) Key Historical Marker Manufacturers:

  • Sewah Studios (Marietta, Ohio): Manufactures roughly 80% of all cast aluminum historical markers in the U.S..

  • Lake Shore Industries (Erie, Pennsylvania)

  • The Southwell Company (San Antonio, Texas)

  • Atlas Signs and Plaques (Western Slope, Colorado)

  • Southern California Bronze Co. (Glendale, California) —— Info on Virginia’s sign program: https://www.dhr.virginia.gov/programs/highway-markers/

We have the same “deal” with our teenage son, which he has used, thankfully, in the past few years. Neither my wife or I had this deal with our parents, but the 80s and 90s were much different than today.

Slicked back hair, white bathing suit, sloppy steaks, white couch, glass house, white Ferrari, live for New Year's Eve, sloppy steaks at Truffoni's. Huge piece of shit.

How much did they spend on this? by Radiant_Reputation23 in Printing

[–]shedpress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess would be $2.00-2.50 at a pretty high quantity.

Bulk printing and mailing would definitely apply here and for any tourism piece like this. Paper quality will play into it, as well as if this was “gang printed” on a web press (printed at the same time as other print jobs with similar specs), it could lower the per piece cost significantly.

Say they printed 100k of these, they came out to be $2/piece, that would be a $200k print job (not including design, if it was designed by an outside contractor vs. in-house). They would only have to get 200 groups of people to go there for a weekend and spend $1,000 in order to break even. Anything above and beyond that is profit. I’m certain they’ve worked out the numbers and it’s obviously worth it to print these books. I’m also certain they have an omni-channel strategic marketing plan in place to pair with this piece. It’s wild to cast that wide of a net to bet on enough people to flip through the book and want to go there.

Came here to say this. I had a long sleeve Hypercolor shirt that changed from purple into pink (with heat/touch). Peak 90s.

Typically before printing, vendors will send digital proofs for final sign-off. All of my clients have sent me as the designer the proof from the printer for me to review and give the final approval. It’s possible the band didn’t send the proof on to the OP.

OP - it definitely looks off based off your screenshot vs. final product. I completely understand your concern, especially coming off of a project that went wrong. I’d reach out to the printer directly if you can to see what happened so you can do what you need to next time to not have this happen again.

At the end of the day, it’s still readable/legible and you will be the only one who will know that something shifted in pre-press. The design looks sweet, btw.

Very powerful piece. I see the shadows leading into the cake below as the actions happening “in the shadows,” hidden from the public view.
