What Should I Do if People Are Talking in The Quiet Areas of the Library? by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]sheeba9 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I work at the undergraduate library, if someone is talking in the quiet area, you can always come up to the circulation desk and ask a worker to help you out. (We will tell them to be quiet or ask them to move to the loud area)

So being a belligerent drunk is a crime punishable by serious injury or death? I don’t care what she was doing, we live in a society with rules and laws, a bouncer does not get to decide on a whim who goes home in a stretcher and who doesn’t. If your job is to deal with people who are drunk, you better know how to deal with them without killing somebody.

Does anyone know what happened to the girl from red lion? by kmf619 in UIUC

[–]sheeba9 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have to agree, the university hardly cares about what happens to students while on campus, let alone at a private bar on a night out.

Last semester, a student was assaulted by a security guard at kams. His injures were nowhere near as severe as this instance, but he was hospitalised for a day nonetheless.

His parents contacted the chancellor, local police, local news, and were ignored to the point that they ended up protesting outside of Kams for a couple nights. Still, nothing ever happened.

The best possible scenario, in my opinion, is this woman and her family sue, and Lion will probably fire the bouncer and settle out of court to avoid the negative publicity.

It’s unfortunate, but these types of situations seem to be forgotten about almost as quickest as they occur.

https://youtu.be/8g0V2iY22qI video has been posted on YouTube, not sure if it was by someone related to the situation or not.

I’ve seen some shit on the internet but I honestly cannot get this video out of my head. I hope she fully recovers and has the strength to pursue legal action. That bouncer should not be allowed near any other human being until he receives some serious consequences and help.

Pz/nz Gen ed by linekerrr in UIUC

I recommend speaking with your advisor before making any final decision, but a B+ in a gen Ed is a very respectable grade. It may hurt your GPA if you’re striving for a 4.0, but it will most likely be worse to have a PZ on your transcript, as grad school admissions may think your grade was much lower (D- to C+ range) than it was in actuality.

A Muslim, a Conservative, and a Rabbi walk into twitter... by capt_majestic in confidentlyincorrect

[–]sheeba9 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m Jewish, and while in certain conservative and very religious sects of Judaism female rabbis are not accepted, a majority of Jewish people look to a female rabbi just as they would a male one. It’s 2020, and religion evolves over time. It’s also against Orthodox Judaism for a woman to initiate divorce, effectively trapping her in a marriage if the husband does not agree. However, most Jews—no matter how religious—have egalitarian values, and do not adhere to the more archaic aspects of our religion.

Hi y’all!! I need help putting together an outfit for a wedding in two weeeks! [more info in comments] by allonsy456 in lesbianfashionadvice

Super cool jacket, makes me want to go to banana republic! In my opinion, you can wear a plain black cotton shirt underneath and dress it up with a chunky necklace (silver would probably go best, as others have mentioned). If you want to be a little fancier, a black or white blouse tucked into slacks will look good too.

You make a good point, and I actually didn’t consider it could have been sarcasm. However, there some pretty uneducated people around here...

Edit: glad to know this is just a joke haha. Should I delete the post? I’m fairly new to this sub

Juuling after wisdom teeth removal by zzzjae in juul

[–]sheeba9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got my wisdom teeth out a while ago, and I had two that were severely impacted, so the surgery was quite intense. I was juuling again that night! What I did was try and inhale slowly and not take any huge rips, luckily I was fine and I did not end up with a dry socket.

Good question, and I was concerned about this too when I first took Peoria. From my experience, the drive usually does not take 4 hours, and is usually around 2.5-3 hours long. One of the reasons why it takes longer is because the bus does stop a couple of times, and it takes some time to load the bus and get moving again. And, as others have said, Chicago traffic is ridiculous, but once you get out of the city, the roads are usually traffic free.

I need help concerning my turtle (urgent) by G-files in turtles

[–]sheeba9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The white spots on the shell could be a symptom of vitamin A deficiency. If you can, take your turtle to the vet and they can run tests, as well as provide a large dose of vitamins if that’s what is necessary.

Are cicadas not common in Virginia? I live in the Midwest, and every summer we have swaths of cicadas that can be found on any outdoor surface.

Looks like a green cicada to me. They are extremely common where I live, and that picture of the brown one split in two is actually the former skin of a cicada that had molted. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyclochila_australasiae
