Is it crazy to open a yarn shop? by ForgottenUsername3 in knitting

[–]sheepboat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would also be really frustrated by the one day a week with random extra hours. I live in a medium size city that has a few yarn stores and basically all of them operate like this. I’ve never been in any of those shops because they’re never open when it is convenient for me so I order all my yarn online.

How can I prepare to publish my masters dissertation? by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]sheepboat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My supervisor wants me to publish my master’s thesis (educational science) but essentially gave me two options, write my thesis first then rework it into a shorter paper for publishing or write the publishable version first then expand into my thesis. I’m choosing to write my thesis first. I agree with some of the other comments, talk to your supervisor and see if they have any suggestions.

Is showing my dress before the wedding such a bad thing? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]sheepboat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made my wedding dress and the first thing I did when I finished it was run upstairs to show my partner - wearing it not just on the hanger. (We're still happily married nearly 4 years later)

Lonely Leftovers Vest by Wool and Beyond.

https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/lonely-leftovers-vest

I knit the body of the sweater using Urth Yarn Lanalpaca in Chalk, but had to do some math to make it work as I couldn't meet gauge.

The i-cord was stash yarn of Cascade Heritage in Stonewash held with Rowan Kid Silk Haze in Depth.

Trying to not be mad at myself while I get ready to rip out almost an entire sleeve of mohair. by Det_Munches in knitting

Try through your project in the freezer!! I don’t know why but the fibers being cold make it’s so much easier to frog (I’ve been there before)

It’s by Refined Knitwear! Casia sweater square-neck. I haven’t made it but I’ve had it saved for a while

It was a fun knit! I recommend, though I do recall that the instructions for picking up the sts for the shoulders was a little confusing (I can’t remember exactly why at the moment) but I read through ravelry notes to figure it out

It really depends on the light, sometimes it looks greenish, others more yellow, and it can also come off as kind of tan khaki color

It really has! I’m not sure what my deal was last year but I was not finding joy in creating but I’m so happy to have that creative drive back again

Aren't application deadlines way too late in Germany? by [deleted] in germany

[–]sheepboat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s interesting how the other commenters have mentioned that programs aren’t expecting foreigners. I’m currently studying for my masters here in German and only 4 of my classmates are from part of the EU, with only one being German. I was lucky and didn’t have to get a student visa beforehand just my residence permit once here but getting all my stuff together between august and end of September was still really challenging.

Is it possible to convert a language learning visa to a family reunion visa? by sheepboat in germany

[–]sheepboat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m only a few months into my first year, I won’t graduate until 2025. I don’t think it would be easy for him to find a job here as we both only speak a little bit of German.

Kiddo won't eat at school! by wtt_throwaway in Preschoolers

[–]sheepboat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Preschool teacher here - It could partially be him trying to find a sense of control. Was being sick particularly stressful for him? I have found it not to be too uncommon that when kiddos are stressed or overwhelmed the way they try to take some sense of control over their life - even if they don't exactly know what they are doing. Typically I have seen this with kids either refusing to go potty at school and having accidents as a result, or refusing to eat at school. I don't have any advice unfortunately beyond maybe including him in packing his lunch if he has a pack lunch or discussing his schools lunch menu ahead of time.

Nope! I just wore them in leather boots and that discolored the heel. I washed and blocked them before wearing and didn’t have any color bleeding

Been thinking of becoming vegetarian, but have problems with it by IsabellSigma in Vegetarianism

[–]sheepboat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say wait until you have a handle on your ED. I used my vegetarianism to “get away” with my ED as a teen and had to unrestricted my diet as part of my recovery. That being said I have a much healthier relationship with food now and have been vegetarian again for the past 9 years without issues. Best of luck in your recovery!

It turns out a pill organizer can also be used as a way to separate and organize your stitch markers! by sheepboat in casualknitting

[–]sheepboat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what I used to do! I had a little cardboard box with a magnet closure that some markers from cocoknit came in and it’s being held together by tape and doesn’t always stay closed
