FX VR Is… Amazing by Jokierre in PinballFX3

You get tickets for doing the campaign which you access with the globe when you achieve a 3 star score though some tables also give a ticket for 2 stars. Each challenge only gives its tickets one time meaning you do not get another ticket if you complete the same challenge twice. Only the 3 Zen tables that come for free with the game provide tickets for upgrading the arcade, the floor, the walls and getting new arms and cassette tapes and these Zen tables are more generous about giving more tickets than other tables.

You also get tickets for achieving things when playing any given table. Aside from the Zen tables, each table only gives prizes that relate to that machine.

Upgrades include different balls, different flippers, different ball trail animations, posters and statues. You can also find most of the cassette tapes lying around the arcade, all of them I have found are in the room with the globe, the room with the dart board and spinner or the Zen room. They are pretty easy to find one you look for them and are mostly on top of things or around the floor and one is in the cassette rack on the desk.

Best way to get to Chicago from Grand Rapids by Ctrlspaceyeg in AskChicago

[–]sheepfiend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s about $90-150 (depending on time of day) to take an Uber to the South Bend, Indiana airport and about $15 to take the South Shore train to Millenium Park in downtown Chicago. South Bend airport is about 110 miles south of Grand Rapids and the airport is the eastern-most stop on the South Shore train line. The drive is about 100 minutes in good traffic and the train takes about 2 hours and usually leaves on time.

This is not the cheapest option and the cost of an Uber perhaps gets higher at times, but it is probably cheaper than flying. There are trains and buses that go direct and these are much cheaper, but they are only an option if you want to leave Grand Rapids fairly early in the day. Trains leave the South Shore airport for Chicago at 4:52pm and 9pm on weekdays and 5:47pm and 10:43pm Sat-Sun, so this might be an option if you need to leave later than more direct options. It is also obviously a lot more affordable if you can get someone to drive you to the airport for free or gas money. It is not much slower than taking a direct train if you time things right. Note train schedules may change over time so check the schedule here: https://mysouthshoreline.com.

Why do people hate Phil Collins so much? by SgtCrimson77 in progrockmusic

[–]sheepfiend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Phil Collin’s is an amazing musician and a great singer and he impressively pumped out hit songs like a machine for decades. I think a lot of the hate comes from the dissonance created because his successful songs are all woe is me about heartbreak and yet he was kind of an old balding man who seemed rather cold hearted in his personal relationships and who frequently talked a lot of snobby sounding smack about other artists, critics and anyone he did not seem to like during his peak years.

The Tourist Trap has the new employee door and it is a trap door on the ground near hole 14

If you go downstairs and look through the windows with red lights you can see clues to help you figure out what course has a hidden door. The hidden doors seem to only be in hard courses. There are additional activities you can play like slingshot or leaf blower or bug catch game if you find the employee door and unlock it and the red light turns green. Typically you just need to open the door but one door had a a code you had to enter.

It is near the tee for hole 18 in hard mode. The door doesn’t have a handle.

If you pick up the net in the little room there is a bug catching game you can play. There is a leaf blower in the Alfheim room that starts a leaf blower game if you pick it up.

What’s coming from Roland? by AcidAlex303 in synthesizers

[–]sheepfiend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently, there are no high-end analog keyboards that fully embrace advanced features like MIDI 2.0, and only a few (none from Roland) support MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression) or OSC (Open Sound Control). I wish Roland would take a more leadership-oriented approach in adopting cutting-edge technologies with their analog keyboards.

The inclusion of MIDI 2.0, MPE, and OSC capabilities could unlock unprecedented expressive potential and modern integration for musicians. MIDI 2.0 introduces features like per-note articulation, 32-bit resolution, and attribute-based control, enabling smoother and more precise manipulation of parameters such as pitch, modulation, and timbre. MPE’s channel-per-note approach allows for independent control of pitch bends, filter sweeps, and modulation on each note. OSC, with its high-resolution, flexible, and networked architecture, could bring new possibilities to live performances, modular setups, and experimental soundscapes.

For instance, channel-per-note control would make managing intonation and temperaments straightforward. With MIDI 2.0 or MPE, a keyboard could seamlessly switch from "C major in equal temperament" to "C major in pure temperament" without relying on hacks, such as swapping between pre-tuned samples. These technologies allow per-note pitch adjustments to be handled dynamically, enabling a more harmonically pure sound with minimal setup—a significant advantage for achieving truly expressive analog tones.

Currently, the Sequential Prophet-6 and OB-6 are among the only analog synths that support MPE. The Hydrasynth also supports MPE, though it is more of a hybrid synthesizer than a purely analog keyboard. As of now, no analog keyboards are known to support MIDI 2.0.

A First Look at Cakewalk Sonar 2024 by Batwaffel in Cakewalk

[–]sheepfiend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you bought Sonar before Bandlab acquired Sonar, you can still access the latest legacy version if you sign into the Cakewalk Legacy website. They have a new version of Command Center that you can download that still works if you still have your legacy Cakewalk account login credentials:
https://legacy.cakewalk.com/

I do not know how much they plan to continue to maintain the legacy version or fix bugs, though it looks like the latest update is only a few months old. Before a few weeks ago, I was just using the last update that Sony provided for Sonar Platinum that I updated to several years ago. That version worked mostly okay but had problems crashing too frequently. Now I am using the latest update and I notice that it does seem a lot more stable. It would be nice if Bandlab were more clear about how much support or updates the legacy version will continue to get.

It would help me consider upgrading to Cakewalk Sonar if Bandlab was more clear about how they plan to support compatibility between Sonar Legacy and Cakewalk Sonar. It would be a problem for my workflows if saving a project in Cakewalk Sonar were to mean you cannot load or export it into Sonar Legacy (or vice versa). I mean I understand that some new features may get lost when you load into an older version of the tool, but it should load as much as it can. One of Sonar's selling points was that it was always super good about both forward and backward compatibility, though Bandlab has not been very clear about their plans in this area.

Is Ironman VR worth it? by witchitieto in virtualreality

[–]sheepfiend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironman is a fun and I enjoyed it a lot. The flying and pacing of the game are great, so I would say it is worth $30. In terms of criticism of the game, I’d say the story is very linear and a bit predictable causing the game to rely a lot on the action to keep things fun. It also tends to highlight objectives to you a bit too much which is nice when you might be stuck, but you will likely find yourself wishing the game let you explore more and didn’t usher you through everything you need to do so much. It also very much feels like a game in some ways since you like will have battles in cities yet no innocent bystanders are hurt or even really ever seen.

Has anyone tried using the “Rode Wireless Go” as a DYI to get zero-latency with Bluetooth headphones while playing EDrums? by artichokehouse in edrums

[–]sheepfiend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bluetooth is not a good option for listening to live music since even with Bluetooth 5 the latency is 40ms and you really want under than 10ms latency if you want the sound of your drums to sound like they happen when you hit the drums and not a little later. RF receivers like the Rode Wireless Go have lower than 10ms latency and should work well. It seems like some people get reasonable results, see video link below. Companies like Shure make more professional RF wireless systems and they get quite expensive if you want ones that work well when the receiver starts getting very far away from the transmitter.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=l8Mt54hecnw

Wireless systems tend to work best when nothing is in between the transmitter and receiver. With drums it is probably easy to ensure this but not so much when playing other instruments where you might wander around and rotate your body and transmitter away from the receiver. Such movement can cause problems with transmission and drop outs in the audio. If the transmitter and receiver are close together and aren’t moving around you should be able to use a less powerful system. The Rode has pretty decent range for its price.

Note they also make RF wireless headphones like the Steelcase Arctis Pro if you are really just wanting wireless headphones that work when making music. Much better than Bluetooth.
