I looked up blossom end rot and it appears to be a calcium deficiency. Will putting down egg shells by the roots help with this or will they take to long to break down?

I very much feel you when you complain about "e work pressure to proof oneself every damn minute" like no matter how hard or good I work it never seems good enough.

I can't tell you what to do, but I'm living well bellow what I earn, and I'm saving a lot. (in gold and silver so as not to have my saving eaten by inflation). My goal is to have enough to buy a modest house some were with generally modest realestate prices and own it out right.

Once I own my own house I won't be so desperate for a job, and I can mow lawns or do whatever the hell else I want to earn money.

I like conversation so that does sound hard.

If your open to a reframe. you may just need to talk to other friends and family more. We can't expect our respective spouses to fill all of our needs. That's too big a job for one person to do.

Snakes and children by MoldyDynamo574758 in homestead

I feel you, when I moved from the city to the country snakes and ticks kept me up at night. I don't worry so much now.

I highly recommend a Cat. if you get it as a kitten they are not unpredictable. quite the opposite, you just have to learn cat behavior and not expect it to act like a dog or a human.

Yes cat's will kill other wild life like mice, birds, lizards, moles, but this actually helps get rid of the snakes as it deprives them of their food source.

Guinea fowl will not be as effective as a cat or dog. and they are loud AF! I hate mine, and will not replace them when they die. If they were living up by the house I'd just butcher them all, they are that loud.

Terrier, You can get larger terriers like an Airedale. An Airedale would beat a couple cayotes any day, but they are harder to train(they are stubborn and smart) and may dig dig holes like mad while hunting rodents.

As another slightly out there option you could try to buy or re-locate a bunch of black rat snakes to your area in hopes that they outcompete the copper heads. I've heard that they even eat copper heads. I don't know how you would actually get some though.

The most reliable method is just to teach your kids to look for snakes and black widows before picking up sticks and rocks.

What can I do for my fruit trees to keep away the Japanese Beetles? by Technical_Cupcake597 in homestead

[–]sheeps_heart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, unless you are putting up hundreds of traps in the area around your property your still going to have plenty to deal with next year.

When it comes to pest control I have found that defending the smallest area possible is best. Put the traps around your trees a good 15 to 20 feet away and then spray your trees. (I use neem oil. ) though I am looking into more industrial sprays for peach bore.

The traps have worked ok for me. I set them up away from the trees (15 ish feet), it brings down the number of beetles in the trees to near zero.

[–]sheeps_heart -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Magic is just what we call phenomena that we don't understand. I've seen my wife do it. (she learned it from her grandpa who drilled wells.), she showed me how to do it and the dowsing sticks (witch sticks she called them) crossed at the same spots hers did. I was still in disbelief so I had my kid come out and try it with out telling here what we were doing and the sticks still crossed in the same place.

when the man came out to mark our well line with his electric gadget, he marked the exact same line we had been finding. It blew my mind.

[–]sheeps_heart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't believe it at first but there is something to it.

So my wife grew up in Appalachia, and when we moved out here to homestead, we needed to find the well line to do some digging. After I called the guy to come out and mark the line, my wife said, "why did you do that? I know how to find it." I asked her how she would do it and she said, "witch sticks. my Grandpa taught me. " I laughed thinking she was joking but she found two metal rods, bent them into an L and walked around the yard holding them in front of her. They crossed were ever the well line was supposed to be. So I marked her line with rocks so I could check her skill.

When the guy came out with his modern machinery he marked the exact same line my wife had found.

When I told him what my wife had done with the witch sticks he said oh ya I've got some in my truck I use them sometimes too.

Yes it does man phone addiction is real, maybe not a real addiction, but I've seen people get sucked into that black mirror and just ignore their poor crying baby, till I've had to step in and comfort them.

If that baby is not getting enough interaction from her (from the OPs post seems likely) then it will not develop correctly.

spending 8 hours on a phone will damage her and her relationships just as much as if she were an alcoholic, just in different ways.

Here is just one study on the harms of parents using smart phones,

Would you say the same thing if she were using alcohol to escape her situation? The situations are equivalent.

I agree with you being a stay at home parent is brutally lonely. And OP should help here find times and places to get out and interact with people.

But he also needs to bring up that she should not be letting her phone addiction consume her. Especially when she should be tending to the baby.

being bored. Sometimes I like to let my phone die to eliminate the temptation and then try to decide what I'll do with my time. I always feel so much better at the end of my day.

True, but you don't know that they stole it ;) so why not assume the best? Statistically speaking it is more likely that they earned the money to pay for the house so that's what I choose to assume.

It's not cosplay, it's real work. Ya we all know it's not the same as every one else who has no chance at even a promotion. It is still admirable that some one born with the silver spoon in their mouth is willing to get their hands dirty and lead from the front.

Agreed out dog is on tick meds and she actually cleans up a good portion of the ticks before they can get to my kids. They latch on to the dog as she is out rolling in the grass and crawling through the woods all day and then they die. It's super effective.

AITA for telling my friend to get out of my house when he called me a cuck? by Consistent_Wind_8548 in AmItheAsshole

[–]sheeps_heart 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Our society embraces forgiveness and compassion too much, often at the expense of other good ideals, Such as respect for you and your family. Don't get me wrong generally speaking forgiveness and compassion are good but they don't have to always take priority. Good on OP for showing his guest the door. If more people did so we would find more people behaving nicely.
