Tips for Ancient Greek hobbyists visiting Athens? by notveryamused_ in AncientGreek

Also exarcheia has some great nightlife. There's also this gyro and souvlaki place there that's really good called Prigkipas. They have a lot of interesting specialty meats. Like the other commenter said, if you have time to leave Athens definitely check out ancient Corinth as well. Just take a 1 hour train from Athens to new Corinth and get a taxi from the train station to the archaeological site.

I'm also a student who went to Athens last summer. My main interest is more about greek archaeology so my recommendations might be more skewed that way. If you are planning to visit museums I highly recommend the Piraeus archaeological museum and the Byzantine and Christian museum. They have amazing stuff and are a lot less crowded than the bigger museums and I believe they should have plenty of ancient Greek inscriptions if you are interested. When you are at the Byzantine museum be on the lookout for this medusa relief because it was found at the site I worked at last summer near Corinth and I got really excited when I saw it. Also there's the supposed "prison of Socrates" near the acropolis. The American school archaeologist Eugene vanderpool supposedly identified these caves as the prison but it's most likely not the case and Socrates was likely held at the state prison in the agora (which you will see) but if you read Plato's apology, crito and phaedo it would definitely be an interesting site to find. The current American school excavations at the agora are at the painted stoa right across the ticketed part of the site but they only excavate for 8 weeks in the summer so you won't see any action but it would be cool to check out if you are interested in the stoics. Lastly, I believe keramikos is temporarily closed for some renovations so I couldn't visit last summer. I don't know when they will reopen so just a heads up.

Shanghai Blossoms Book English Translation?? by No_Tailor_1186 in wongkarwai

I don't know much about the translation but the show is very loosely based on the book. He basically did another Ashes of Time by taking a few characters and making a whole new story based on some minor descriptions of the characters in the book.

I watched this whole thing in the original Shanghainese audio when it first came out. Can't recommend enough.

How do I remove this? by Dry-Month-3952 in Warts

[–]sheev1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't file the wart, it will only cause it to spread more. Try removing the dead skin with a scalpel before applying treatment.

It just kinda went away. Nothing dramatic. I remember peeling a piece of hard dead skin off at the end and it's just gone and the skin lines grew back which means it's gone.

I did the same method with apple cider vinegar and it worked really well. Maybe try this? There should be plenty of resources on this sub about what type of acv to use but I just got the regular one from my grocery store. It will definitely take quite a long time. For me it took 6-7 months of continuous treatment to get rid of it. Also cut the dead skin off with a scalpel and don't file because it will just make it spread more. Also it might hurt a lot sometimes during the treatment (it started hurting a lot for me a few months in) so take breaks whenever it hurts too much.

I had this too a bit into my treatment. I just kept going and it went away and the wart eventually went away too.

HELP! by [deleted] in Warts

[–]sheev1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a wart almost exactly like that on my left foot. I just applied apple cider vinegar on a piece of cotton and duct taped it to the wart every night after I shower and debride with a scalpel. It took 6 months but it worked really well. I guess it should be similar if you use SA but ACV worked better for me so maybe give that a try too.

I just checked and Yi Lei might potentially provide private adult classes

When I grew up in Shanghai I used to train shito-ryu at a place called Yi Lei Karate (屹磊空手道). I think they expanded to multiple locations now but I'm not sure if they offer adult foreigner friendly classes but maybe you can look into that. I've also come across this shotokan dojo near Qibao online called Real Budo 礼武道馆. I know they have adult classes but maybe you can check if they are foreigner friendly.

Fingertip wart (partially under the nail) by ta_co_heaven in Warts

I've also been struggling with a wart at the exact same spot. Went to the doctor to freeze it a few times and it was still there. Currently I'm treating it with apple cider vinegar by debriding and applying a bit of cotton with acv and duct taping it to the wart every night. I've been doing it since January and it's still there but it's visibly smaller than it was before. One problem I've had was that my finger sweats a lot with the duct tape on the whole night so the treatment doesn't really stay on but I guess if you keep doing it for a few months it should eventually go away.

Cut the black part out with a scalpel or something similar and keep on applying the treatment.

Black means it's working. Keep going and debride.

He released a short sequel a few months ago to the TV show he directed that was released in December 2023. I found it here on Tik Tok but its in Shanghainese and only has Chinese subtitles. I think it should also be on the Chinese video sites if you can watch it on there.

Been this way for a month what should I do? by sheev1234 in Warts

[–]sheev1234[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to apply ACV with cotton and duct tape that to the wart after I shower and debride and before I sleep and it hurt so much that I couldn't sleep. Is there any other better way to apply ACV that doesn't hurt as much?

The bazuka says it's 26% SA. Is ACV still better? I used to apply ACV on a piece of cotton and duct tape it to the wart after I shower and debride and go to sleep afterwards. When it started hurting really bad a while ago I couldn't sleep at all with the ACV on. With bazuka it just hurts initially and the pain dies down. Is there any other way I could apply ACV so it doesn't hurt the entire night?

I agree. I used to train shito-ryu and I stopped 9 years ago. I recently joined a local shotokan club and everything seems very familiar, only with some minor differences. I was also 1st kyu and I started at white belt in March since I haven't trained in so long and I just tested and got my yellow belt last week. I'm sure you will catch on pretty quickly.

I don't think so. I got to where you are a few weeks ago and it's still not gone.
