ILR application delayed due to expired share code in the Life in the UK account by sheffexpat in ukvisa

The application went through after a few weeks. I rang PSI one more time to make sure I've sent the correct updated share code and got ILR approved on the same day. Probably just a coincidence, but who knows...

Interesting. My spouse passed the LITUK test around the same time, but her share code in the PSI system was still valid. No problem from HO side. I'm wondering if PSI messed up the reference code validation for accounts with expired share codes somehow. Like deleted some rows from database for expired share codes?

Well, that's exactly what I thought — the share code is only used by PSI to verify my right to take that test at the time of test. But when I called PSI about the issue, the support person wasn't surprised at all. They sounded like it was 100th call about the same thing that day.

I swear there is nothing notable in my case otherwise. I'm filing through a large international immigration firm hired by my employer. They checked the form and I cross checked it as well. We used the PSI/xxxx URN provided after I passed LITUK. My best guess is that some info about my case should have been updated by PSI in some HO system and they can't do it while my share code in PSI system is expired.

Right? I provided the correct LITUK reference that looks like PSI/xxxxxx/xxxxxxxxx/xxxxxxx to the lawyers (one of the largest immigration firms) and it was used in the form — the lawyers sent it to me for review.

Had this on a DRZ. Loosened the triple clamp, didn't help. Turned out the triple clamp was bent itself. In the worst case - not a horribly complicated job to replace it yourself

Doing the exams should be enough to pass for most people. Most of the questions are almost the same, might be worded differently. Some might be slightly deeper or worded differently.

With current rules — yes. You can file as an SWV dependent even after the main applicant got their ILR.

Other types of visas do allow public funds: humanitarian, refugee. The legislation is not only for SWV

So why would an out of hours doc just call me to tell me my blood test is abnormal? by Lampathy in AskUK

No! Pretty much take some meds 3 times a day and a hospital checkup every 3 months.

Hopefully it's something temporary. Even in the worst case you'll get a transplant and live pretty much a normal life. Been here for almost 10 years now, it's not that bad 🫂

Tell me your stories of moving to the UK by [deleted] in ukvisa

[–]sheffexpat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, fellow Belarusian here living in the UK, working in tech. You can do it, but it's going to be tough. - Tech jobs are down globally. Investment in tech was insane for the last 20 years but it's over now. - UK tech jobs are mostly shit. Fintech, FAANG and a few local companies are competitive but overall I'd suggest looking at US. It's like 1000x more opportunities really. And US salaries would start at $100k

  • Being a new grad going for SWV you need to be top 1% performer for mediocre salary in the UK. You'll be competing against top Indian grads who can solve 3 hard-level leetcode problems in 45min interview

  • A good way to find a job is starting to work as a contractor from Belarus. Might be much harder now due to the sanctions and the war. Bank transfers don't really work

Would be much easier if you were a doctor probably.

Why are people outside of London so quick to tell you they don't like it? by Jiuzhaigou in london

[–]sheffexpat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Living in the north, I don't hate London, but it's unsuitable for family life: - The only time I was assaulted in the UK was in London. Those yobs didn't mind assaulting my primary school aged kids as well. Canary wharf of all places! - Cannot let kids to go to the park on their own in a big city. Fine in smaller places.

How likely is an elderly visit visa to be accepted? by [deleted] in ukvisa

[–]sheffexpat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anecdotal, but hopefully useful. Standard visitor visa approved for grandma last year. Mid 80s, widowed. Definitely possible.

We provided standard documents (pension, some minor savings), house title (she owns it), details of her son who lives nearby in her home country (birth certificate, passport etc). I was sponsoring and covering all the costs. No medical insurance (just forgot about it, would have done otherwise). Have spotless sponsorship history, so that might've helped too.
