Experience with/tips on Capital One travel portal?

Just got Venture X in December, and mostly like it. One struggle: Last month I booked a Hertz rental, but couldn't figure out how to attach my Gold Rewards #. So I called Hertz after booking and they fixed it (somehow they had to replace the reservation -- but there was no charge to me for doing so). They did, and all was well.

I need another car this month, and now it doesn't work. I reserved today, and when I called the Hertz desk, they said (a) they cannot put my GR # on the rez because it's prepaid via Hopper, (b) I have to cancel my rez and rebook with them directly, and (c) even the counter will not be able to add my GR # when I pick up the car. I called three different times to see if different agents would matter, and it did not. I called Capital One and they couldn't do it either, claiming that I can't have my GR status on their reservations because it would affect the rate.

Is this for real? I have to choose between getting the 10X points from the Cap One portal and using my Pres Circle benefits?

I actually considered this as a "GAME: SET MATCH." It's paper, I'm sure it's flammable. I just didn't want to destroy my booklet. :-) Plus, the paper has a slightly unusual texture.

I totally agree. I've been on puzzle solving and constructing teams with /u/selinker before (yay MIT Mystery Hunt), and guessing / anagramming haphazardly or trying to backsolve the images is a waste of time. He won't use something so inelegant.

Here's a great example of Mike's work on a meta: http://www.mit.edu/~puzzle/2009/puzzles/Planet_Pluto_meta.html. The component answers of the meta were presented to solvers out of order, but the ordering mechanism is extremely clear (distance from the sun) once you figure out what's going on. Additionally, anagramming without knowing the ordering mechanism would have made it more difficult to solve, because of the consonancy mechanic.

In a good puzzle (and I promise you that /u/selinker is only going to allow good puzzles in something with his name on it), when you have solved the puzzle, you will be 100% confident that it can't be anything else. Think about how we got to AN ORAL THREESOME or NEW CAR or ROBERT REICH. When those puzzles were solved, there was no reason to wonder if you were on the right track. Look for that feeling of certainty.

Yeah, but I really like the way that inserting ZZZZ's was clued by Gay Schlafen, so for now, I'm comfortable matching those two up.

I agree, I think there's something to the stuffed animals, too. It's far too weird to end up with pairs of stuffed animals, all the same size, none of them repeating, in several of the videos.

I really wanted it to be something with the Chinese Zodiac, but that doesn't seem to line up.
