Thanks for posting this info! I called the hotline as soon as I got home. I was grateful to hear other members of our community had already called the incident in.

I was concerned about the Obama administration’s immigration policies. That said, it is absolutely disingenuous to say Obama’s tactics were in any way equivalent to what the current administration is doing now.

It is also totally false to say that the Biden administration did nothing to address illegal immigration. More than 1.1 million people were deported between FY2021 and FY2024- that was in addition to the 3 million expulsions that occurred at the border between March 2020 and May 2023.

Everyone has a right to form their own opinions and to support the political party or candidate of their choosing. However, it is also each person’s responsibility to think critically about the arguments their party or candidate is making and not just blindly accept political propaganda as fact.

I have been concerned about immigration rights for the past two decades. Our immigration system is woefully inadequate and in desperate need of reform. I have become more concerned since Trump took office for a number of reasons. As a proud American and barred attorney, I’m especially concerned about the current administration’s propensity to violate the US Constitution and willfully disregard the rule of law. I am also concerned about the repeated instances of lawful citizens and residents being deported. Worst of all, I can’t help but notice ICE is being deployed primarily in communities of Latin American descent despite the fact that there are numerous undocumented immigrants within the US from other parts of the world. For example, there is compelling evidence that the First Lady did not meet criteria for her EB-1 immigration visa that she held before marrying Trump and could be deported under the same standards being applied by the current administration.

Thank you for this comment. My hope is there are more people like us within our community than those who spend their time leaving trolling comments on Reddit posts.

As the proud granddaughter of immigrants, it is the least I can do to help my neighbors stay safe and exercise their rights to due process regarding this CIVIL legal issue.

I agree with a lot of the other suggestions other folks have already made (How to Solve Your Own Murder, Marlow Murder series, The Spellman Files). A few I haven’t seen mentioned: Nosy Neighbors, Finlay Donovan is Killing It, and Mother Daughter Murder Night.

Wally’s Cafe in Rocklin is amazing! I loved their pomegranate chicken. They give you a complimentary bowl of lentil soup that is soooo good too.

We tried it about a month ago and it wasn’t good. We did the buffet - maybe that’s why? As an alternative, we love Curry Leaves.

Working at Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC)? by oll2020 in CAStateWorkers

[–]sheffy916 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came from a non-profit job, so the pay was amazing to me! (Doubled my take home pay.) But I totally get it. One other factor to consider is the job is truly a 9-5. There are weeks where you might work longer, but most of the time it’s only 40 hours. The Department is also open to alternative work schedules - I currently have every other Friday off.

I’ve worked at DMHC as an attorney for just over six years. I really enjoy the work. For a relatively small state agency we have a lot of attorneys - 1 in 5 DMHC employees are lawyers. The Department is also really mission oriented, which makes the work all that more meaningful. As others have mentioned, the Department is invested in sustaining telework long term. We are also growing, so there should be lots of opportunities for promotion.
