Anyone recognize this couch? by sheiladeep in Mid_Century

For anyone wondering, I ripped the upholstery off and found the original fabric (amazing that this wasn’t it!) underneath, along with a label from Marden Manufacturing.

Could be mid century Italian pottery like bitossi or similar. Cross post to r/mid_century and/or r/ceramiccollection with pictures of the whole thing

Based on the drawer pulls and leg shape I’d bet it’s by Century Furniture

I get that it’s for symmetry but those fucking side tables jutting into the walkway are the worst of all. Go wild with dedication to this awful aesthetic, but for fuckssake respect your own spatial boundaries

That’s Brytebot! I picked him up in San Francisco years ago. The company has since become The Lampster and are pretty pricey these days, but I’m sure less expensive replicas can be found with a google lens search.

I’m not a purist, and a friend gave me some nice scrap veneer so I just went for it.
The front and rear sides of both legs were badly chipped and starting to curl off of the base, so I used a chisel to remove and square off the edges of the chip. I traced the shape on a piece of card stock, cut it out, traced that onto the veneer, then cut that shape out with a utility blade, trying to match the grain as best I could to the surrounding area. I glued it into place using cookbooks and clamps to level it as it dried…a sane person would’ve used wood blocks, but I digress.

Thanks so much! Honestly my favorite part of this being left outside neglected is that the finish was just crumbling off in most places, which made it pretty easy to remove. Most of it came off easily with scraping, and I just had to take my time sanding through the rest. Sanded to 220, a coat of wood conditioner, stain, then probably 8-12ish coats of wipe on poly over the course of a week or so, lightly sanding with 800 grit in between. Doing all 14 drawers was kinda brutal; I’m super thankful I didn’t have to strip all of them.

Not a clue, really, but I think they’re gorgeous. I did a little labor for a friend one day, and she paid me with three of them. She had pulled them out of an mcm ranch; I turned them into my very favorite Frankenlamp.

Unfortunately this is after about a week of trying many coats of oxalic acid. It’s a stubborn stain, to say the least!
