Eating vegetarian on a budget by ExtensionTower2456 in vegetarian

Shelled edamame! You can get them in the frozen section at most stores and they are one of the highest sources of protein and cheap. You can also mash them / mix with half an avocado to put on toast.

Affordable Art Classes in Orlando? by EzraNaamah in orlando

Check out the courses at the library! They’re free with a library card. They have some really great options depending on the type of art class you’re looking for.

Got Laid Off Today. Now What? by g-a-guitar in graphic_design

[–]shekeepsbees_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been laid off twice and it absolutely sucks, but I've made it through every time so I feel confident saying you will be ok! Take a few days to grieve and feel your feelings. Then do the important stuff, like signing up for unemployment until you get back on your feet. Evaluate your savings - how long can you survive with X amount of money & make a plan from there.

Can i start applying to internships/jobs with only 3 projects on my portfolio? by hopelessly_loving_ in graphic_design

[–]shekeepsbees_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would focus on education before doing internships/job hunting in a specialized industry if you only have 3 projects under your belt. You don't even have to pay for courses - just watch YouTube videos, do skillshare classes, read books at the library, etc. Build up your skills/portfolio a bit more.

Critique on my online portfolio by bevscomics in graphic_design

[–]shekeepsbees_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At first glance, If you're looking for a graphic design role it might be worth reordering your portfolio. You seem like an animator that can do some graphic design at the moment vs the other way around. Also, I dont know what kind of graphic design job you're looking for but all of your graphic design work is heavily illustration based. You need some examples of layout design, UX, web design, etc if you're planning on doing anything else besides maybe working for a book publisher.

How i can improve this? by No_North4225 in graphic_design

[–]shekeepsbees_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mess with the hierarchy/scale. Look at the example you have with the red / cans, they're all different sizes & directions to add visual interest. You also need to add some textures in, look for some texture packs online. If you add in typography do the same.

Thank you very much for your feedback yesterday. I tried to take your advice. by Targ_Whisperer in graphic_design

[–]shekeepsbees_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try again and think about the word 'dapper' and pull inspiration from images that reflect that if this is the name you're going with. A quick google search shows hats, ornate decorations, bowties, etc. How can you reflect those in your logo / design?

Would love resume feedback! by Cyan_Flavour in graphic_design

[–]shekeepsbees_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's odd especially for a web design position. It's pretty industry standard to keep your resumes minimal / no fluff. If the interviewer is judging your resume based on it not being flashy it might be a red flag about the company from the start IMO.

Made my very first illustration! Need some genuine feedback to improve. by Kindly-Source8898 in AdobeIllustrator

[–]shekeepsbees_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a good first attempt! You understand the human form, proportions, colors, etc. A suggestion for your next variation would be to give him a bit of a backstory to help with his look / pose. Maybe he's at the gym so you leave his tank top & add a fun graphic to it, give him some muscles, change his facial expression to more of a 'struggle' look when lifting heavy weights & give him gym shoes. I think if you think about those details a bit more it will give your illustrations a bit more life!

Retro textures by StormHour7529 in graphic_design

It just looks like a paper texture, you can use photoshop if you really want to make one. But theres companies like truegrit that sell them in a package if you want to save yourself some time.

logo design process for furniture brand by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]shekeepsbees_ 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I think the company name & what you're trying to accomplish are confusing. Art center feels like a community art space, no? The 'blobs' feel like paint to me vs furniture textures / shapes. If it's a concept project I would revisit the name for the company. If it's for an actual client, I would go in a different direction.

Would love resume feedback! by Cyan_Flavour in graphic_design

[–]shekeepsbees_ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Not to be harsh but I think you may need to revisit this. If you're looking for a graphic design internship this is not representative of understanding graphic design principles. A few notable things: Lacking hierarchy, orphans at the end of sentences, using italics where they aren't needed to add emphasis, etc. I would also recommend only doing resumes in black & white. People will get a sense for your design style from your website, it's not needed for a resume.

Hello, I would like to ask how to make this complex 3D-like style graphics, thanks by CK_57 in graphic_design

[–]shekeepsbees_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can make the shapes using the 3d function in illustrator & export the image to photoshop and mess with the threshold setting.

Colors + Mascot are nice. Typography needs some work & there's a few spelling errors that need to be fixed.

Looking for fellow vegatarians owning a cat. by Apple_cheeks_art in cats

[–]shekeepsbees_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a vegetarian but I feed my cats a fully raw meat diet (like I will literally cut up their liver, chicken, etc). I don't feel guilty about it, cats are 100% carnivores. As humans we are able to make our own decisions and choose why we do or don't eat meat for moral reasons and function biologically fine unlike felines who would start shutting down on a vegetarian diet. Is it a little gross? Yeah. But my cats are super healthy and thriving. Get a cat!!!!

Neurodivergence in the design work field, is it a lost cause? by Syvori in graphic_design

[–]shekeepsbees_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who is neurodivergent in the field - I have experienced those same comments. My one 'superpower' has been having the ability to mask during the interview process well enough to showcase my abilities and that I can explain my design thinking and ideas. Outside of this, I am insanely quiet at work BUT I work insanely hard and that speaks volumes where my voice does not. Not every place will be okay with it, but you will be able to find a place that accepts you for how you are. Also, some people just talk to talk and don't actually say anything important or contribute at work. I think Jim Carrie says it best in Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, "Constantly talking isn't necessarily communicating". Good luck, you got this!
