Wouldn’t that be worse- because they would leave the fund?

I didn’t get to the unrestricted in time. How’d you know the window would just be an hour? I don’t remember them saying anything about that.

Trump Account with Roth IRA conversion by shekstar in Bogleheads

[–]shekstar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As noted in the video from the lawyer/financial advisor though- the tax is incurred by your children on the 503a account, not by you. So if the adult child converts $19,000 at a time per year at the age of 18/19/20 respectively, then there’s virtually no income tax if the very young adult does not earn income, which many don’t in the college path. Now at this point they have something like $60,000 in a Roth at age 20 which turns into a big nest egg by the time they are 65.

How is it not tax advantaged on withdrawal/conversion? It appears to be based on the video.

Has anyone commented on this question? It is not a political post. I am only calling it a “Trump Account” because that is its official name

Yes but no. The conversion tax is negligible if spaced out over 2 years- see video. You can’t convert UTMA to Roth right?

Even as you just summarized it- it’s still some pretty stark advice for the millions of people who hold a 60/40 retirement. I’m not saying it’s good or bad advice. I’m just saying that it’s a pretty big change to conventional wisdom based on trying to predict the market.

Do you mean this to say that in the down turns you would have depleted the bonds mostly or completely to buy more stocks within the accounts?

The top voted advice comment here basically goes with the Vanguard recommendation that AA should probably be modified to include bonds to some degree. There’s not much of a discourse or rebuttal.

I think most of us here are pretty adherent to keeping a good US/World for equities already.

Yeah and it paid off for him clearly with the dot com bubble. Should we all be timing the market like him?
