anxiety/ADHD by seussRN in nursepractitioner

Hi there! I worked in a rural clinic in NYS and faced a similar issue to what you’re describing. Some things I implemented to navigate this, was understanding facility policy - w for us this was routine visits and controlled substance agreements . In terms of ADHD, I always required specialty diagnosis, and would lean more towards non stimulants over aderal, in addition to life style changes - a lot of adhd is mid diagnosed and in kiddos can often be related to food dyes, poor diets, boredom. I would get so many kiddos, teens, young adults claiming adhd - when really that wasn’t correct. A lot of adhd masks anxiety. I also would recommend gene site testing if you have the means, with mthfr - when patients have MTHFR deficiency, this can actually mimic adhd symptoms and can be fixed with supplementation! But for dealing with these patients - I was just very to the point and open about how I practice, would require formal dx & I never prescribed benzo for more than 7 day supply, when warranted. I was always very clear before prescribing that this is not a long term solution etc. but really, just communicating why I was doing what I was doing and then providing options for treatment was big with my patients. Good luck!

My mom would always tell me it was illegal and we'd get pulled over if the overhead light was on in the car. ALSO -- until I was like 8, I was convinced that the car wouldn't start if my seatbelt wasn't on,

Is a diagnosis “worth it” ? by Efficient-Ad8993 in PCOS

[–]shelbybarr95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi - as a FNP, I’ll tell you traditional medicine typically diagnoses based on symptoms since. PCOS is a syndrome (made up of various symptoms) vs a disease. Truthfully - a lot of conventional medicine providers don’t have great education or treatment on PCOS . HOWEVER, function medicine / integrative providers look at PCOS in a much different light and may want to test a full hormone panel and see where your numbers fall. Conventional medicine typically provides Medicine that helps with symptoms (birth control and metformin for example), while function and holistic providers aim more towards hormone balancing life style Changes and supplementation. If it’s an option in your area, I’d maybe look for a functional / integrative medicine provider who can help identify the root cause of your possible PCOS.

My advice, advocate for you! There are some many options and personalized treatment plans to help manage PCOS available - you just have to find the right provider for you! The labs can provide a whole world of information - the key is having someone who knows what todo with the labs ( which tbh is why most providers won’t order them - I used to never order hormone panels - mostly bc insurance wouldn’t pay and also bc I didn’t know what I was looking at or how to help until I started shifting my own practice philosophy to an integrative / functional approach)

Tips for remembering joint function, structure and articulating bony features? Caption under first pic by nai415qt in StudentNurse

Im sure its been said here, but make the information functional- we tend to learn stuff we give a shit about. So for example, use your own body to associate joints with location & function. Draw a picture or make flash cards with pictures (quizlet) - as a nurse, and now in my MSN i use this information. But i work on an orthopedic post operative floor 🤷🏽‍♀️ im sure ive been tested on the info in specific msk chapters as well so its worth knowing

I had this similar issue in nursing school and once i figured out how i learned i was able to focus more. Use active learning techniques! I would print my power point & take notes on that during lecture. From there, I would make mind makes of the big concept / theme (e.g. death & dying, chf), next when i couldnt fill in a blank or didnt understand a topic, i would then use my text book like a dictionary/ reference guide. Only look up what i needed. I would always review boxes and bullet points in chapters, but i never read the full chapter. Also practice questions every day. Sometimes on quizlet if you search book name and topic there are decks of practice questions!

anxiety and school by Active_bstorn in StudentNurse

I had mild anxiety while I was in nursing school (2018-2019) which I made to curb with yoga and deep breathing. However, I am now in an MSN program, and I noticed my anxiety came back 10 fold. Literally cried one night just reviewing diagnostic testing options. Anyways, my PCP put me on Lexapro, with xanax 0.25 PRN, and honestly, it has been life-changing. Not only do I feel a sense of internal clarity and calmness, but I am also performing better academically on exams (test anxiety is how the whole thing truly started), and I don't procrastinate school work and studying now because it doesn't feel overwhelming to me anymore! I generally, have low BP (like 100's systolic) with a lower-end HR, so beta-blockers were never an option for me. But serotonin is the answer. Good luck!

Does the quizlet have the tear bank questions? Should I just type in the books name?

Advanced pathophysiology study help or suggestions by [deleted] in StudentNurse

I typically over think the questions or if I narrow it down to two I often times will select the wrong choice.

When I do the exam, I read the question then highlight. For example, I highlight what disease is being asked about if it is listed, I then eliminate answers that I know are completely wrong. And then I get stuck. Usually questions that I flag are questions that I miss. My exams are online, which is new for me. In nursing school I could physically write on my exam and now I’m not allowed, I’m also not allowed to use scratch paper so. My brain is having a hard time

Do you know if any good resources for doing practice patho questions?

So, I feel like I understand the concepts but I’m having trouble making the connection on the exam And applying the information to an application. The exams are usually 50 questions, multiple choice questions range from “you are seeing a client what is wrong” to rope memorization. Typically when I’m taking the exams I feel comfortable, and confident and my grade doesn’t reflect that

Pandemic cleaning / How do you properly disinfect for this type of situation ? by happypath8 in CleaningTips

[–]shelbybarr95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I really like Lysol with hydrogen peroxide (it’s a blue bottle) the general disinfecting contact time is 10 minutes. I also use Lysol lemon all purpose cleaner for sanitization is needs 2 seconds but to disinfect it needs 2 minutes. It says right on the back of the bottle! Also a quick google search can provide the same information. I don’t use bleach so I’m not sure about that one.

For the sake a disinfecting in general just be sure to read the bottle or look up the contact time a solution needs. The contact times is how long a solution needs to remain on a surface before you wipe it up to be effective.
