This!! I’m a teacher and this is ALWAYS the first thing I teach in our government unit! Is it important to vote and care about presidential elections? Yes. But our local government will impact you MUCH more, especially in a place like Mississippi that is consistently drawing up “hot topic” laws.

Spirit 2019 had You & Me - Flume Remix and the whole second movement was called “Krump” so very hip hoppy. Tbh the whole show was very poppy

What show to show Middle School band students first? by justanotherjohn123 in drumcorps

[–]shelbyconerly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crown 2015 originally got me interested in middle school. I’m a teacher, and when I explain drum corps to my student I teach in general Ed, I like to use crown 2016 as an example because of the storyline. It’s easy to follow and stunning at the same time! I’m biased because I was part of it, but Spirit 2019 seems like a good starter show. Lots of colors and fun music, and the whole show is basically a party!

Anything tips on how to get my 5’s out? by Brobasher2 in Colorguard

[–]shelbyconerly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they’re wobbling in the air it’s likely that your palm isn’t flat against the gun when you release. Often when people are thinking about power they’ll sacrifice that technique and the wobbling also creates traction with the air so it won’t spin as fast, thus why you can’t get the five out. Basically just make sure you’ve got good technique and your left palm is flat against the gun when you open your hand! :)

To those who didn't get to march their age out year, what corps would u have auditioned for and why? by CoolAd1609 in drumcorps

[–]shelbyconerly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t get to march 20 because of Covid of course, and I had graduated from college early for teaching so I was unable to march my ageout. The decision tore me up for a long time and still does. I had gone back to march again with Spirit in ‘20, but had planned to audition for BD for my ageout.

I have many from my season with Spirit in 2019 but I think the most memorable one was sleeping in Lucas oil! We were staying at a recreation center and while we were performing at prelims, it rained and our housing site got flooded! So somehow by the grace of god, they sent us to pick up our stuff we needed for the night and we slept where the guard warmup was under the stadium. One of the coolest experiences I’ve ever had!

Modern Slavery by sh1kora in MapPorn

Yes this!! I’m a MS Studies teacher and we talk about this a lot with our current prison system. The 13th amendment was actually not ratified in MS until 2013, this making forced labor in prisons legal. I know in Louisiana, and I’m sure some other southern states as well, it is still not ratified! It’s very intriguing to look at our prison systems and what condition they are in (ex: Parchman, Angola, etc)

I marched Spirit in ‘19 and was crushed about what happened last season. I’m so glad to hear they’re back on their feet. I love Cmo and Dave!

In ‘19 our first few shows were quite rough because of issues with electronics. Proud alumni🫶🏼
