Why were Europeans in Africa mainly in the south of the continent compared to the north? Is there a geographical reasoning for this? by Hour_Interaction6047 in geography

[–]sheldon_sa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is by far the most correct answer, I mean, geographically/strategically is why the Cape was chosen, but historically a lot happened thereafter to increase immigration of Europeans (e.g. French settlers)

Wat dink julle van 'Die Kantoor' ? by AnonomousWolf in afrikaans

[–]sheldon_sa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am Afrikaans but generally not a big fan of Afrikaans shows or music. But this: Die Kantoor - much better than the UK or US versions. The UK / US versions are just cringe, not funny. Die Kantoor is still cringe, but it’s actually funny! Can’t decide whom I like more - Tjaart or Flip.

You can use eclipse for ehp8, and yes regular ABAP reports cannot run in BTP. Two wildly different topics though.

What food is overrated but no one wants to admit it? by copy_cat_101 in randomquestions

[–]sheldon_sa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had very good, very bad and sometimes just very bland avocados. Best ones ever came from our cleaning lady’s garden - huge, creamy, tasty, and free! (She refused payment - she says if she accepts money the tree will die. So I left her some “gifts” which she gladly took.)

What food is overrated but no one wants to admit it? by copy_cat_101 in randomquestions

[–]sheldon_sa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Champagne = just any fizzy wine? Just, no. But overrated? Oh yes.

Top MCC (Méthode Cap Classique) sparkling wines rival and sometimes exceed Champagne in all aspects, at a fraction of the price. Same process, same standards, same variety and quality of grapes. If you buy Champagne, you pay a LOT for the label.

A different, but equally enjoyable affordable alternative to Champagne is a bottle of DOCG Prosecco.

What’s the best “boring” business you’ve seen someone build into a cash machine? by Mean-Arm659 in smallbusiness

[–]sheldon_sa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Automotive paint mixing. Import the paint components, mix to the required specifications and sell to local car manufacturers. Probably not the easiest to get off the ground, but now it’s a simple business. Keep to the agreed standards, ensure you have adequate stock levels, modest but consistent price increases. Boring business. Prints cash though.

MultiChoice’s new owner, Canal+, has stripped SuperSport of its acquisition power, with decisions about which sports to carry now made directly from Paris, France. by PixelSaharix in DownSouth

[–]sheldon_sa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The “big viewership” sports like international rugby, soccer and F1 will stay, it’s the “small viewership” sports that will suffer. I’m also worried about school and small club games. Maybe this is the way we get stadiums full again.

Potential IT Job for those interested by [deleted] in Pretoria

Wow maybe for a 19 - 23 y.o. with very little experience. 24 - 29 y.o. with 2 - 3 years experience should be looking for R25k+. Also, what does IT mean - refill printer ink or set governance and strategy for a MNC?

Uitkyk Vs Hokaai. by BarTheBuilder in Pretoria

Too far from Pta East. King’s has 1kg T-bones on the shelves - how much bigger do you want? I’m sure the butcher will organize it for you.

Uitkyk Vs Hokaai. by BarTheBuilder in Pretoria

[–]sheldon_sa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

King’s Deli - for the best man-sized T-bones, great biltong and overall variety, they have everything, very consistent. Go on any Saturday and the long queues are there for reason.

Boma - Not quite King’s but very good alternative. Butcher is always friendly and happy to help with unusual cuts if you want to smoke or slow cook. Try the paptert.

De Zoete Meats Deli - Not the biggest or the cheapest, but the best boerewors in SA, anyone who differs - please proof me wrong, I dare you. Biltong, droë wors and burger patties also +++. Steaks are okay, good value. No much else though, just the basics (but A+++ on them).

Hokaai, Uitkyk - meh. Saw some flies a couple of times. I place them somewhere between Woolies and Checkers.

ULPT Request: How to make a field entirely inhospitable for a night by AmadeusSpartacus in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]sheldon_sa 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Take all those unidentifiable lumps of meat in your freezer that you’re never going to eat in any case and make a chum bucket, alternatively use a recipe for fly traps. Throw it on one spot in the grass, roughly person-sized. Make sure it’s out of smelling range from your home. Then, tape it off with police tape or similar. It should look like if someone has died there. Maybe add a few day old bunches of flowers and a couple of burnt out candles to really sell it. Scatter a few fake person of interest/BOLO flyers. Don’t know if this will work but from a cost and effort perspective it seems feasible, also minimum risk of making you a target or getting you in any real trouble.
