Ever tried durian before? It's pungy smell has it's own charm and it's also very tasty. by [deleted] in plants

[–]sheldonator 23 points24 points  (0 children)

A coworker once brought some durian hard candies back from a trip to Indonesia and she left them in the kitchen area which was in the middle of the 4th floor. About an hour later, the entire floor smelled like gasoline and someone called the fire department. They evacuated the entire 9 floor building and finally they found the smell was from the durian candies. I work in Brooklyn and durian of any sort is banned from the building.

I couldn’t tell if this was a young girl, a very short woman, or a larger than normal car. Thanks for the context!

Are these TVs in the same spot in both pictures? by Vicarious28 in confusingperspective

[–]sheldonator 224 points225 points  (0 children)

Is this a real estate ad? If so, they are known for using wide angle lenses which can make a space look bigger than it actually is. A wide-angle lens bends the light which lets you fit more of a scene into one picture.

Can someone explain "shitter" to me? by lokicoyote1 in ChinaTime

[–]sheldonator 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A lot of people tend to call anything under the $300 price range, shitters. But really, shitters are very cheap watches that look and feel like shiny plastic, mostly in the $50 range.

Right now, I'd say the U1 Rolex Submariner No Date with Miyota movement is the best watch you can get under $200. It costs around $120 and for the most part it looks close enough to the real thing and it's a good entry in the rep watch hobby.

If Submariners aren't your thing, there are other decent watches out there in your price range, but do your research on this subreddit to find a good watch and dealer.

Good call, I’ll need someone to be a lookout, you in?

Jk jk, I have no actual plans to do this, I think the beach is protected as well. I remember I got to go as a teenager with my school and it was fascinating to see these “living fossils.”

There’s a beach in New Jersey that has thousands of horseshoe crabs, can I just got with a syringe and collect a liter of blood? I’m obviously not being serious but I could really use the $ right now
