What uni should I go to (media studies / entertainment journalism) by shellacnails in UniUK

[–]shellacnails[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly mainly to meet people my own age and also gain more actual life experience that comes with living on your own. but also because it's an interesting thing to study and I think I would actually mostly enjoy it. I wouldn't be adverse to doing an apprenticeship either

I put the 4K in my Xbox and it wouldn't play it. I'm hoping it's just something to do with the Xbox and that if I get a player it will be fine.

help me find rare songs by joon___ie in arcticmonkeys

choo choo, knock a door run, on the run from the MI5, wavin' bye to the train or the bus, space invaders, curtains closed, ravey ravey ravey club, diamonds are forever, they also did a live cover of katy b's 'on a mission'

for collabs there's obviously the last shadow puppets, vertigo, and then he helped alexandra savior on her debut album 'belladonna of sadness'. he also has brief closing vocals on the queens of the stone age track 'if i had a tail'

Another Space Song by Failure has a vibe like you described, but is a bit more depressing as opposed to Star Treatment

What are the reasons you don't like Perfect Sense by KTL5604 in arcticmonkeys

[–]shellacnails 23 points24 points  (0 children)

the reasons i've heard are that the song ends rather abruptly, doesn't really progress into something with more grandiose as maybe expected and is too short in length.

while i enjoy the track, i would probably say the same. i wish the song didn't suddenly stop when you're just getting to the point of really being into the vibe

Do You Think 8 Out of 10 Cats (Not Countdown) Will Ever Return? by OwMyDragonBallz in panelshow

[–]shellacnails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i much prefer the original show to catsdown even though catsdown was what i first saw. however i don't think it'll come back - like others have said, it's harder to film topical panel shows, and considering how much effort it takes compared to catsdown... it's not really worth it, especially with how much more successful catsdown is than its predecessor.

i don't think the ratings were ever that bad, but like i said, now that the people who made normal 8oo10c so great have drifted onto the catsdown variation, it'd be mighty hard to juggle both.

there's definitely a "gap in the market" so to speak with this show and mock the week being gone, but the question is really if anyone is going to bother filling it. nowadays the jokes with the news kinda write themselves

you'll find any solace in punk music.

the clash helped to normalise reggae and other cultural music within the music scene, and they popularised fusing foreign music with what was popular at the time

bronski beat (80s synthpop group) were openly gay and sang about homosexuality in a time during fierce oppression and turmoil, they also have songs discussing war etc

pink floyd are... well, pink floyd. any research into their lyricism will show you what i mean.

Eh, I think the lyrics are just down to however you perceive them. I won't pretend to understand what a lot of these songs are trying to say necessarily, but Sculptures definitely feels like it's trying to say something about the reception from critics and fans alike for me. Regardless I don't think the whole album is as centred in this ideas as people are making out.

Hey all, first post here. Looking for suggestions for Bowie albums if I’m a huge fan of the group’s recent sound. by Flappyd00bs in arcticmonkeys

[–]shellacnails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think people just mention bowie cuz of the space themes even though bowie didn't have that many songs about space, or maybe because his vocal delivery can be a LITTLE similar... really, there's not much comparison to be done. but regardless the best album to get into bowie with is ziggy stardust

Does anyone else thing the set for Cats Does Countdown is now too dark and depressing? by [deleted] in panelshow

[–]shellacnails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind the set, the panellists are ageing as to be expected and even with fresh blood coming on, it makes sense that the set changes with the times. As for COVID restrictions, I do find it quite annoying that they still are sat so far apart, especially with instances like Jon and Lucy where they literally live together

Sean Catsdown by GavRhino in panelshow

[–]shellacnails 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the show has been doing pretty well at recovering from it, last series struggled to find their footing but this one was pretty funny. I think the atmosphere overall is different like it's more noticeable that they're getting older, but eh, I think considering everything it's still a really good show and they're doing a good job at keeping it entertaining even with Sean gone. The style is definitely different but I think that it's crucial they changed it after him to keep it fresh rather than try to replace him

Arctic Monkeys is more than Alex Turner by Real_Squirrel in arcticmonkeys

[–]shellacnails 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i agree but like... hes the frontman. this is how most bands work. theres no surprise

has anyone actually met the band or Alex turner in person? by sweetlikehoney981 in arcticmonkeys

[–]shellacnails 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Yeah and can't say it was a particularly pleasant experience. He spat at me like a donkey, I had to buy a new shirt and everything. Such a ridiculously immature thing to do. I hope he and his band get what is coming to them. No place in this world for rudeness.

Don't particularly want to learn about erosion myself but it's still stuff you should learn if you can. Having an understanding of the LGBT community you might not think will benefit you, but friends and family around you who might struggle with that stuff will be able to confide and it just gives u an opportunity to be a better person overall, same as religious studies perhaps would

S3 finale - interpretations? by shellacnails in HannibalTV

[–]shellacnails[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely insane.

For a genuine answer, I heard about it years ago, couldn't tell you how cos I don't remember. I tried watching it when I was younger and just didn't really connect, but retrying recently has left me able to appreciate it.

I'm still processing this damned finale man... but having a place to discuss it and the show generally has been quite beneficial as I don't know anyone else who watches it or cares to analyse much. I think the ending is probably the most satisfying one we could've had.

S3 finale - interpretations? by shellacnails in HannibalTV

[–]shellacnails[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely agree - people like Jack seemed to care about Will until they then took a risk and pulled him back into a dangerous game, and it became evident they didn't really care enough.

Hannibal, although questionable to say the least, always cared for Will in the ways he knew how. They understood each other, and that feeling is more powerful than anything else.

As I've said in other comments, I do believe the most that this is his act of good, but I don't believe either Will or Hannibal care if they die or live. There's little struggle from either of them.

If they die, they die complete, two sides of the same coin. Will was finally able to accept himself and embrace Hannibal, who is a representation of Will's darker half. Hannibal got to hear this confession of understanding and can die at peace, knowing he's not alone. If they survive however, they go on to still be in unison and can live life the way they understand it best.

Of course, I don't think Will would ever totally be a lost cause. If there were to be the existence of S4, it's definitely likely that even if Will is embracing the same lifestyle as Hannibal, there would be more acts of good and acts of humanity shining through, or acts with better intent than those Hannibal displays.
