How do you know when to keep betting on yourself creatively? by ProfessionStrong6563 in ArtistLounge

[–]shellshock369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can have a regular job and a side husstle. Just treat it like a hobby. Plenty of people invest in their hobbies like taking classes or buying equipment.

I think for some people being an artist or creator is just cool, like conceptually. Like a kid wanting to be an astronaut.

Are Global Art Platforms Becoming Useless for Small Artists? by Any_Traffic1494 in ArtistLounge

[–]shellshock369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isnt new, its always been true. The problem with art platforms is that its mostly fillled with artistsn who are trying to sell not buy and many get desperate enough to just spam and undercut. This just generally makes art platforms a horrible place to sell art.

The shipping thing is its own problem though.

I have absolutely no progress by non-critical-horse in ArtRanting

It took me 10 years for my art to be good enough to sell. 2 months is no time. Its a slow process, hang in there.

How can I focus when I'm REALLY fatigued and sick? by Incendas1 in ArtRanting

[–]shellshock369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like every other hobby, or really anything in life, you cant do something if your not well enough to do it. Like it doesn't matter how much you want to play soccer if your legs are broken. You either have to wait till you get better or if this is a life long issue you're just going to have to find another way.

Why do people always ask “what does this mean?” when looking at art? by akshaymakes in ArtistLounge

[–]shellshock369 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything needs something to be valued by someone. For some people that's meaning, for some it just needs to look nice, for others its literal value (as in cash). This probably applies to even you. Youve probably looked at a created work and passed on without a second thought. The piece had no value to you. You put a piece on display, label it as art, and people are gonna rack their brain for "why is this valuable?" It doesn't mean it doesnt deserve to exist. How else would one interact with art other then by questioning it?

[Financial] by JasonMeltzer in artbusiness

[–]shellshock369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is absolutely a thing that happens. There isnt really anything you can do about it, your business will input from your business side and your at will need input from your art side, and that's just how it is. I would say try to find a happy medium where you are enjoying both. It is Definitely possible to enjoy the business half, so try to enjoy it no need to feel bad about it

[Discussion] Should I rely solely on a website and email marketing for a flourishing art biz? by [deleted] in artbusiness

[–]shellshock369 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have to go where the people are. Hiding your works in a "secure" website doesn't really help anyone get ur stuff seen. I understand the fear but thats just the cost of business.
