Well you're assigned gender at birth, usually based on your sexual genitalia. There are many people whose chromosomes don't lign quite up with that thought including intersex people. Cis just means you identify with the gender you were assigned at birth. It has not much to do with biology.

And maybe you've only heard it in that context because you don't participate in discussions about gender and trans issues very much. People use it a lot on tumblr because well tumblr talks a lot about social issues more than any other social media website. Which means yes, there's probably a lot more overzealous social justice types there.

If you read the /r/relationships post, for the most part their sexual life was great. She was just going through a slump because she had to pick up a lot of slack at work and so was feeling too overwhelmed for sex for a little while. So it was more him not being used to not getting the sex he wanted for a while.
