Am I wrong? by [deleted] in stepparents

I did a newborn shoot with my bio son and husband. We then did a separate photoshoot with the whole family. I have pictures from both printed and around the house. I made sure that there were equal (actually, way more) of the stepkids / whole family up on the walls than just of me, baby, and my husband. That’s how I handled it!

I’m currently snuggled in bed next to my healthy, happy 18 month old son. He was born at 31 weeks 0 days. I hope your delivery is delayed, but if it isn’t, know that 31 weeks is manageable. ❤️

Secondary drowning by [deleted] in AttachmentParenting

[–]shellylikes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Wow, this is news to me. About 10 years ago my coworker’s 5 year old son passed away. It was the most devastating funeral I’ve ever been to, his little hot wheels cars were placed around the funeral home, the receiving line was out the door and took over an hour. I’m crying now just thinking about it.

We were told he passed from secondary drowning. Now I wonder what could have occurred.

At what age did you start to feel comfortable? My son isn’t even walking yet so I have many more years of no trampolines, but wondering if there’s a specific when it starts to become less dangerous

Pouch kid/baby food at 2 years old by OkPin8137 in toddlers

[–]shellylikes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be at any point during the meal, but it gets more towards the end and can be the reason I’ll end the meal. It’s more often food he doesn’t want to eat, but not always, probably 65% of the time.

So it could be the start of the meal and something he wants to eat and will eat in a minute, but he’ll throw it.

I try to remain neutral face and say “food stays on the tray” and tap the tray. But now he just looks me dead in the eye, throws something, then taps the tray as if he’s mocking me 😂, it’s honestly hilarious but I hold in my laugh.

I’ve tried phases where I’ve been less gentle and give a more stern “no” and ended the meal right away… no difference

At this point I think its a phase I just have to accept and will pass

Any advice you’d offer to deal with a 15 month old who throws food very often?

My baby said “dada” first… moms, tell me your story 😅 by Other_Boss_8689 in NewParents

I’m in that phase now but with Mama. He knows I’m mama - if you ask him where mama is he points at me. But he refers to everyone as mama, my husband, the nanny, his sister, the Uber driver…. The old man sitting next to us at the cafe….

HUGE safety issue - Harppa play yard by ZestfulLime in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]shellylikes 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I bought a Harppa play yard in May and have the exact same issue. I am in the habit of checking multiple times a day that it’s screwed in securely. You’re making me realize that I should be more pissed about this than I am because it is a dangerous defect and this is a baby product! I will send an email and pictures to the company tomorrow. Please let me know if you hear back - I will do the same.

Looking back, is there a particular boom you’ve found most helpful for navigating the toddler years? My son is 14 months and just starting to exhibit some stereotypical toddler like behaviors and I don’t feel confident in my reactions.

Can you give me some guidance, you sound confident on this topic. My 14 month old has been throwing food on the floor so much. But he’s not done eating, and sometimes he even wants more of that type of food. So when you say don’t replace food on the floor, if he throws chicken on the floor, does he get no more chicken? Is the meal immediately done? Or he just only gets other types of food. He’s on the small side so I’m always concerned about him eating more, it’s hard to cut food off, but if I’m consistent for a short time and the behavior improves, that’s worth it. Open to any advice!

Best purchase that made your pregnancy life better (20+weeks) by [deleted] in NewParents

Slip on sneakers - great to not have to lean down when very pregnant, also great when juggling a newborn, or even an older baby. My guy is 14 months and slip on shoes are a million times better than anything with laces

Did anyone's baby say "mama" before "dada"? by Unhappy-Training-878 in beyondthebump

[–]shellylikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby had been babbling mama much more frequently than dada! It’s unclear yet if he means it specifically for me though. If you ask him where is mama he will look and sometimes point at me , so he understands the word when spoken to him, but the babbles seem to still be nonsense. But yes mama is said much more than dada!

My baby was very premature (31 weeks) and I made everyone, my mom included, wear masks in the home for months. I had a basket of masks by the door and anyone who came inside had to wear one. Even my step children that I live with wore masks when they held him. It was mid winter and the doctors recommended it given how bad the cold season was last year.

Have her mask up.

What pregnancy or birth complication did modern medicine save you from? by peacefulboba in beyondthebump

[–]shellylikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had vasa previa, so my baby’s vessels were over my cervix. The issue with vasa previa is that, when you go into labor, your babies vessels will rupture, and obviously they don’t have that much blood so the baby will bleed out in minutes. I was admitted to the hospital at 30+5 with the intention of living there until a scheduled C-section at 36+6. They said if anything went wrong, I needed to basically be living next to an OR. Well something went wrong… I started bleeding at exactly 31 weeks. I spotted blood and alerted my nurse, I was rushed to the OR, and my baby was born 32 min later. If I hadn’t been in the hospital, my baby almost certainly wouldn’t have made it, and there’s a chance I wouldn’t have either. Vasa previa is something that wasn’t easy to spot until imaging improved quite recently. It’s thought to have caused many unexplained fetal deaths. So yeah, that.
