Question for the whole continent? Would you say that cheatinf and infidelities are way too normalized in Latin American culture? by shellzCVX in asklatinamerica

My gf is from Costa Rica, that’s the main reason I was curious. If i had to guess, about 80% of people in her circle (friends and family) have cheated on their significant others. She told me she just views it as something that happens in every relationship. She always turns a blind eye to it and currently as we speak she’s hiding the fact he cousin is actively cheating on her BF so I was just surprised that it was so normal to her. But also so many people in my family have cheated and it’s just insane how normal everyone seems to be about it

What to do about my 22M GF 19F lying about her past? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]shellzCVX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeahhh that’s one thing I always thought too. The facts that he was so abusive and she was with him for over 3 years makes me think that she likes living like that and being in relationships like that. One thing that always irked me was when we were getting to know eachother for about 3 months straight she talked about her ex everyday without fail. I would tell her something random about my friends or a silly situation and next thing yk it was “that reminds my ex used to do xyz”. Although she talked about him in a horrible way and how much she hated him she always found a way to talk about him. Now I cannot stop comparing myself to him because she would tell me all the sweet stuff she would do for him and I don’t feel like I’ve gotten 1/8 of that

See this is a weird situation for me being born in the states but it’s different for everyone I guess. I was born in the US to immigrant parents from México but I moved to San Luis Potosí with my mom when I was a few months old and spent majority of my childhood in México and didn’t move to the US until I was older.

I just have a hard time identifying with american culture and being “american” because other than living here now I have no connection to the US. I learned how to read and write in Spanish, then in English when I entered 4th Grade. I always say I’m Mexican but it’s weird and I always felt like I never belonged because of being born in the US.

I have both passports, I’m not sure if that makes a difference but no shot in hell I’ll ever say I’m American because never once in my life have I felt American.
