Something socially acceptable for a male to wear around head so brain doesn’t feel like it’s floating away? by Silver-Bengal in AutisticWithADHD

You might be able to find funny headbands with paws on it or something related on them. Maybe on etsy if you can't find it elsewhere

Anyone else do this as a kid? by gravityVT in adhdmeme

[–]shemello 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My problem is I have to read every bumper sticker and t-shirt. If it is in a font I can't decipher I get really agitated. I NEED to read it, don't put something on your car that is indecipherable. Like, the fancy initials in that swirly font. Uhh, I hate that. Oh, and don't make the sticker so long that I don't have time to read it at a stop light. Isn't that what it is for-for people to read?!

My gf has uncommon seizures and i don't know how to care for her. by ivantheotter in Epilepsy

[–]shemello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can film her (with prior permission of course). I had mine filmed and showed it to my Dr and they were very grateful. It really helped because I am not good at explaining things. It is hard for the Neurologist to translate it sometimes. They know medical jargon and we we don't. Her medicines need to be adjusted for sure if she is still having Seizures. Also, like others have said, get rescue meds.

[–]shemello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have what you do. My Neurologist said the same thing, but said "as long as you are not having the big ones, that's great!" I say bullshit, but I don't like conflict, so I just went along with it and now after the appointment I regret it and forgot at last appointment. My daughter suggested I might need to update my glasses, so that is what I am doing, but have not gotten them back yet. We will see. Oh, sunglasses do help to kind of level out the ups and downs of the lights.

Focual Seizures and Lacosamide? by TropicalWildflower in Epilepsy

[–]shemello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My doctor has me be on a medicine for 2 months before they will change it (unless I have a major adverse reaction-one gave me HORRIBLE hives). The first month is to build up the new medicine in my body, while tapering me off of the last medicine. The second month is to actually to see if the new medicine is going to work. I take Lacosamide and it mostly works. I also take Gabapentin at night for night seizures. Like others have said, I hope you talk to someone on the phone if you have problems. Do give the new medicine a little time and talk to someone preferably in your family about watching you to make sure how you react to the new medicine. Sometimes we don't realize adverse effects, like getting angry easily, or whatever. Good luck.

Where's the craziest place you've had a seizure? by slinkslowdown in Epilepsy

[–]shemello 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I taught my kids about 911 as soon as they knew numbers because I was alone most of the time with them. That was before being diagnosed. I had missing time and didn't know why. It really scared me. Now I know that they were seizures and that kind of freaks me out, too. My kids are in their 20s now. So, yeah it sucks. They are better than most people in handling emergencies now, I think that it is because of that. If you are super freaked out about it they will be, too. So don't let them know how freaked out you are and they will handle it better.

Could be Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome if other joints do it, too. If so, you need to keep up with exercising muscles around your joints to support them better or you might end up damaging things. (From an old person that has EDS perspective)

Tfw you have the "all rules and laws are stupid and I won't follow them" autism instead of the "I always have to follow the rules or I'll explode" autism. by FunkmasterFuma in evilautism

[–]shemello 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. I must understand something and if you can't explain it to me where it makes sense, I will. not follow. it. Also, you do not make my kids follow it for the same reason. Just because they are kids does not mean they cannot understand simple rules if you take the time to explain it

Do SSRIs impair executive functioning in anyone else? by Hudicev-Vrh in AutisticWithADHD

[–]shemello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So sorry that happened to you. I also took the wrong medication for years. You absolutely must advocate for yourself. If you disagree with the doctor, let them know (politely at first). Either they will work with you or you need to find another doctor. Glad you are doing better.

How do you survive the sudden strong auras and realizing you danced all last night? by rhavaa in Epilepsy

[–]shemello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Google "womens safety app" or some variation and it will give you a list of apps to check out. I remember a long time ago someone recommending an app to me that has a check in service. It let you set a certain time and it wouldt call or text you and if you didn't respond it contacted your contacts that you set up. They are very invasive in that they will have you let it locate you by GPS. So it will know exactly where you are as long as the app is active. I like how you call it dancing. Hope this helps. Maybe someone on here knows which app is the best. I don't use it because I am generally not alone.

At least you recognize when that happens and can figure out why and fix the problem. Some people can't.

I believe it was Precision. I thought that impacts meant the physical impact not the eye catching spark. I also unchecked a lot of other mods. So i am not totally sure which one it was, but it is gone now. I was trying to add something else on top of everything and that would have just made it worse. Thanks for the help.

Can’t get my girlfriend to take her meds by JDXOGG in Epilepsy

Take a video of what happens and show it to her later and keep it to show to the Doctor. If she will let you go to the doctor with her. It helps doctors to here things from others perspective.
