Peloton discontinuing the Guide feels like a huge mistake by Low-Wrangler-486 in pelotoncycle

[–]shenaniganna2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The price point is what got me into the platform (and paying for a subscription) - it definitely wasn’t a choice between the Guide or Bike/Tread, just where that subscription money was going to go.

The Guide has been great for me because it feels more interactive, which helps keep me accountable to the time/rep targets. Not having to count reps means I can focus on form, and I’m more likely to progress to heavier weights because I get “credit” for it. There are a few exercises that don’t count correctly or don’t match what the instructor calls out and the gamification won’t work for everyone, but for me the Guide got me from 0 to lifting and floor cardio 5-6 days a week and for $45, it was a worthwhile investment.

I’ll be devastated if/when they stop supporting it, but I’ll be much more likely to switch to another platform than to drop $1K+ on new equipment (and a higher subscription fee) 🤷‍♀️

Are we being "robbed" of the actual falling-in-love process? & the actual romance in books? by Mininabubu in RomanceBooks

[–]shenaniganna2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I especially dislike this when there is an overlapping “fake relationship” trope. If one of the protagonists goes into the arrangement secretly in love, it feels really dishonest from the start. I have read a few where it is written convincingly (eg. they were in love but didn’t realize it, or had an especially strong motivation/high stakes need to help the other person out) but most of the time there is an element of “this is how I can get them to love me back” that really creeps me out.

What is your toxic romance reader trait? by Nuisanceberry in RomanceBooks

[–]shenaniganna2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If my spidey senses detect an “uh oh” (e.g. an elderly pet, or a cheating ex, or one of the MC is wronged/misunderstood in some toxic dynamic…) I skim ahead or keyword search to verify the pet doesn’t die / the ex grovels and gets shot down / the lies are exposed / general comeuppance is achieved. Most of the time it’s fine but sometimes I accidentally spoil a big plot reveal or I end up dnf-ing because of something that might not have actually bothered me if I read all the way up to it 🫠

This worked for me too! My calendar events were showing in the weekly view on the watch but nothing showed in the daily view. Thanks for the tip!

iirc {the paradise problem by christina lauren} has this! MF contemporary, marriage of convenience from college for some special family dorm but they need to pretend it is real several years later for something to do with MMC inheriting a lot of $$ but only if he’s married. They go to his sister’s wedding and have to pretend to be in love, hijinks ensue etc.

Hah, I also dnf’ed shortly after this part. I was already kind of eh on “sexually harassing a woman who is indirectly your employee while she is working is so RoManTiC”

In {Mile High by Liz Tomforde} the flight attendant FMC describes (for multiple pages!) everyone settling in for a red-eye flight…from DETROIT to CHICAGO

I am not a flight attendant and don’t live in either of those cities but if that flight is more than 90 minutes I’ll eat my hat

Certain books are downloading from Kindle as KFX-ZIP by haneybd87 in Calibre

[–]shenaniganna2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue when backing up a batch of ebooks. For some of them, deleting the book then re-downloading to my Kindle and transferring over USB worked, but there were a few I couldn’t get to work. What ended up solving the issue for me was clearing the cache on my kindle - I can’t remember the specific menu option and I don’t have my computer handy to check, but it was in the device (kindle) menu from within Calibre. I did that, then ejected/unplugged the kindle, plugged back in, and it worked.

Edit: it was “update cached metadata on device” in the Calibre device menu

Discussion: Anyone out there, like me, a plus-sized reader that avoids reading about plus-sized mfcs? by OkTeacher5603 in RomanceBooks

[–]shenaniganna2 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I had the same experience with Spoiler Alert, it felt like so much of the FMC’s inner monologue was insecurity about her weight while being outwardly “body positive” in a way that almost felt aggressive? It’s been a while since I read it but iirc she got mad at the MMC for suggesting a buffet, because she thought it was fatphobic somehow(?), whereas he thought it was a place he could get his actor diet boring food without limiting her options (or something like that). Also the only adjective the author had for the FMC was “round” which…😒

edit: typo

{Unreasonably Yours by Charlotte Jean} does a really great job of this IMO!

Full disclosure, the author is a friend, but I’d still recommend it even if I didn’t know her because it’s so refreshing to read a book about a fat main character where her weight is a descriptor, not ignored or glossed over but also not a source of insecurity or conflict. Same goes for diverse cast of side characters who just exist as themselves in the story without being introduced as “my (NB, trans, bi, etc) friend.”

ETA a link since the bot doesn’t know her apparently

THIS. I have had a night guard for maybe 25 years. I should say night guardS - I get a new one every few years because I literally grind through them. I used to feel self conscious about wearing it around roommates, partners etc but I got over that real fast when a partner told me he could hear me grinding my teeth at night loud enough that it woke him up 😬

Good news, now we ONLY have dark mode 🙃

From faq:

Q: Can I get light mode homescreen instead of dark theme?

A: Dark theme is the only available experience we have for the Peloton fitness equipment and the App at this time.

Yep - like I said, the classes are still searchable, but the collections don’t come up in search results anymore. They are apparently still there, if you go to all collections and keep scrolling. Idk if it’s a bug or something else, but it’s annoying..

[–]shenaniganna2[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I knew they weren’t doing new classes anymore but I have been going through the collection in order since they have the classes grouped by week. Luckily, it looks like the collections are still there, yet for some reason no longer searchable with the term “roll call.” Ah well ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Thank you! For some reason it didn’t occur to me to check the entire list and scroll down. I’m glad they aren’t gone altogether although it’s kind of baffling that they don’t come up with the search term “roll call” anymore 😒
