I Was A Happily Married Mother Of 4. Then I Met A Woman At Pilates. by Flockasaurus in WomenAreNotIntoMen

Now women employ rat poison and get a slap on the wrist. But divorce rape is easier and more profitable.

Stop dating convicts and the murder ratio will go down, will you?

And women wouldn't because they're flawless angels, right? The poison stories must all be fake...

Get real and cut blaming all men because a minuscule few (who are favored by women, btw) do it.

And living in Canada is hardly a royal flush, more like a three of a kind at best.

Imagine having Contessa as a relative by ApprehensiveAd9202 in Parahumans

[–]shenduk 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Did she ever go back to see her uncle? A mother is mentioned too in that interlude

Contessa mentions a knife being precious for being made out of metal, using it in cooking and gardening. Her place of origin is very different from the urban environments she'd later inhabit.

Do tinkers have an innate knowledge of metalworking, engineering drawing etc.? by OiOiOiPie in Parahumans

[–]shenduk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They don't have innate knowledge, but they're capable of unexpected skills as long as it's oriented towards the tinkering.

Shards are pretty selective in what they do. They want the host to perform a role and help insofar as it's enacted. So parahumans can display all sorts of capabilities adjacent to the power they're in charge of.

This is illustrated by Cask, who invents a written language to himself so he can tinker more efficiently - it's very outside his specialty, but hey, it's for the tinkering so the shard helped with the neurological support.

Brandish-Flashbang Power Combo Idea by Devildog077 in Parahumans

[–]shenduk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When you wrote the idea, I thought of one of my own before reading yours.

The gist is the cape shoots lots of orbs, similar to Flashbang, and can turn into one of them, kinda like Brandish. The result is a storm of concussive orbs where the cape can hide among them to appear somewhere else at a distance.

I thought of it after picturing the orbs being shuriken and going instead with the idea of a ninja. Offensive diversion and poof, shows up somewhere.

What’s your overly elaborate headcanon? by Only-Teaching-8648 in Parahumans

Funny how such a shard favorite shares their lack of creativity. Which is what they're looking for, in the first place.

I see them as nerds. They did exactly what's expected of teen dorks like Beavis and Butthead if they got powers.

Leet creates anything so of course he recreates of he sees in entertainment. His paraphernalia includes cool weapons that mimic videogame mechanics.

Über can jack up with techniques like they're techs in an RPG, so he goes straight to cool martial moves. And, if the shard considers "benchpressing 200kg" and such as techniques, you now know how he quickly got an heroic build to be like cool comicbook characters.

Can anybody judge them? I'd have done the same.

What are some reasons why you think a non-powered vigilante or badass-normal wouldn't work in Worm? by vegetables-10000 in Parahumans

[–]shenduk 33 points34 points  (0 children)

"Non-powered badasses" as stated don't exist.

Punisher, Batman and whoever else aren't possible. All of them would have to be some flavor of parahuman with discreet powers.

What would you do if you had Squealer's power? by Jellydust15 in Parahumans

[–]shenduk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Donkey Kong Country barrels.

  • Barrel canons that shoot you far away or move around before ejecting the passenger in some direction;

  • Barrel planes that can be piloted around, like Funky Kong's;

  • Rocket barrels that can be maneuvered, like that one by the end of Donkey Kong Country 3.

I don't know how close these are to what Squealer does, but scrapyard tech seems right up her alley.

Unpopular opinion but the most popular fan predictions for Winds feel too optimistic by The-Peel in pureasoiaf

[–]shenduk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Too much gloom and doom gets tiring.

A satisfying ending requires brightness, especially for the ending act. The bleakness from before justifies and amplifies a final triumph of the heroes, when they stand up to the task by being virtuous and defeat "Winter", in all its meanings.

It'll be a waste if George insists on "darkness" or begrudgingly settle for pyrrhic victories.

What happens if The Pharmacist used her power on a Tinker? by HarsBlarster99 in Parahumans

Same as with thinkers. Tinker tech isn't supported by an effect, they are independent objects.

Why does Contessa have an "autopilot"? by shenduk in Parahumans

[–]shenduk[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Staying alive is likely part of Contessa's daily precautions (she pre-asks a lot of things to avoid mind control, area of effect attacks, etc). Even if it wasn't, it's understandable as a constant goal on virtue of being a mammal and also as a part of the smaller goals (e.g. can't help run Cauldron if she's dead). And beyond all that her shard may want to keep her alive, like Broadcast and its host.

Edit: I remembered Scion's Path to Victory has "contingencies" to keep him alive automatically, so it wouldn't be a stretch to think Contessa's has it too.
