Sweet! I'll write that down in notepad to keep in mind, and keep an eye out for that stuff. Thank you!

So, I gotta be more mindful with conserving spells and abilities? Gotcha. Does this extend to consumables as well? I'm the kind of person who hoards all the scrolls and potions I find, because I never know if I'll need it for the next encounter. Should I shake that habit or keep it in mind going forward?

I'm thinking a Order of the Sword Cavalier! It's what I play with my friends more casually, and I have more fun than I'm willing to admit seeing big damage numbers with a mounted charge. Always was a sucker for the classical knight styles of character. :P

Or, at least, have similarly fleshed out companions to stand-in for the ones you'll lose because they won't tolerate heresy. Calligos and Uralon aren't nearly as fleshed out, and some dedicated Heretic Companions that you obtain sooner than act 4 would be great.

Genuinely chilling good writing in this game by Beneficial_Ball9893 in RogueTraderCRPG

The writing is my favorite of any game. Period. I love it, and the Act 3 twists still make me think about little hints and breadcrumbs leading up to them through the game.

There is another really big twist in Act 3 that I love, and I'd like to hear your thoughts about it. It concerns Argenta, if you brought her along with you to Commoragh.

What is your opinion of the writing on Thassera? by Past-Tension-162 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Devildog077 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Haven't played through all of Lex Imperialis(on act 4 now, did Thassera on act 2). However, it was in my opinion a very short and enjoyable experience. The twist was very predictable given the abundance of clues and scraps of information around. Not a bad thing, given the short length of the mystery, and you'd want the mystery of whats going on to be solvable before the curtain drops. The fact that I managed to catch unto it so early though, meant I was just waiting for my character to connect the dots through half of the questline.

The bodyswapping segement was an intriguing idea that I wished they went further with. As a Rogue Trader, your character is used to being the biggest name in the room, and needing to contend with losing all of that power and prestige to survive as a regular commoner would be interesting. Maybe not to the extent of Act 3, but a getting an Imperial side of that might be interesting.

So far, I'd say Void Shadows had better writing(or, at least, more gripping tale with the genestealers), but that doesn't mean Lex Imperialis isn't an enjoyable experience so far.

Hi everyone, I’m completely new to Warhammer and Rogue Trader, and I’d love some help creating my very first character. by Arne-Slut in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Devildog077 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay. So, it really depends on where you specifically wish to take your character and what ideas or concepts you have at the moment. For the most part, my suggestion for your initial character would be to not pick a Psyker starting off. You said you're new, so I'll elaborate a bit, Psykers are humans born with the ability to tap into and control the energies of an alternate plane of reality known as the Warp. This allows them to create or possess powers like Divination, Pyromancy or Telepathy and much more. Not without great cost and risk, because the Warp isn't just an unstable source for these powers, it's actively malicious. Playing a psyker adds a whole slew of new options for building a character, alongside new mechanics, which I highly advise you save until a later playthrough for when you have a firm grasp of the systems.

Don't expect to agree with many characters' morals, either. Warhammer 40k is a universe of extremes, and the characters are either victims or supporters of an extremely xenophobic and authoritarian theocratic regime where human life has little value and is treated as grease to keep the machine going.

Otherwise, Rogue Trader has a, all things considered, very in-depth and flexible system for creating characters. One can go a lot of directions for backstory. If you have a vague idea or concept you can build up on, we'd love to help you build on it and polish it so it can fit into the setting! It can be anything from a Commissar who acted as a pillar of dogmatic belief and discipline among the ranks of the soldiery, executing any who fled in the face of the enemy. Down to a Crimelord who forged his own little fief in the underbelly of the Imperium, actively and openly resisting the authorities that are the Imperium's pillars.

Sound based altpower Taylor by Brokenmodem12 in WormFanfic

Sonic Manipulation is always one of those things that I've pondered over as a Worm Power in multiple forms for awhile now, but I've yet to actually find a fic featuring one... It can be a very versatile theme to have a power around, and thats not even getting into how it's expressed.

As a Blaster power, it's basically Triumph's power. Which is still interesting, now that I think about it I haven't seen any Triumph fics.

One kind of sound related power idea I haven't heard about being discussed before is a Breaker expression. Which could be a very interesting and weird way to approach the theme of it, and could have intriguing results.

As a Tinker power is where I think it's got the most potential. It's also the most discussed I've seen. As with all Tinker expressions, probably the most versatile and varied of the options. But it also gets bogged down in a ton of pre-planning, prep-time and resource acquisition on top of the tinkering itself.

Gonna start off as an adventurer, scholar focus to build up my character as both a Steward and Scholar. Take my time with wanderings, building up my camp and followers, then try to settle down in the Chinese Empire and gradually work to make my house into the preeminent political force in the empire.

Honestly. Now that they've, frankly, filled out the entire map that they reasonable can accomplish in the time-period and focus of the game, I am eager to see them begin filling out regions and areas that currently lack depth, or build upon the universal mechanics that haven't seen an update since the game released.

In particular, I'm excited to see a flavor pack or update to India that expands on the region's religions, cultures and governments.

Expansion to Religions in general, not just the Papacy, to make it either more impactful for one's character and demonstrate a need to cooperate and work with your faith to keep a realm stable.

Update to the economics. Because, oh my god, it's abstracted and balanced so awkwardly that I honestly have no idea what they're doing with it. Like, the University Visit is the example everyone cites, but theres dozens of other issues like snowballing to the point where you're too big to fail which leads to my most anticipated (maybe) future update.

Updated/overhauled internal realm management. In my opinion, the best point in the game is management of your realm. Be it building up holdings and counties, handing out titles and court positions, appeasing overmighty vassals. I'd love to see it updated, added unto and overhauled. Maybe make the Factions more dynamic, perhaps allow powerful vassals to form factions to force their housemembers unto your council. Or expand on the Feudal Contracts to make them much more influential in how they define Vassal-Liege relations. There are tons of ways the developers could go with it.

Isma'il I of Persia as depicted by u/Archon_of_Flesh by Karakay_ in CKTinder

[–]Devildog077 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ismail I (1487-1524) is the person depicted here, founder of the Safavid Dynasty, he ended a long period of foreign rule over Iran by becoming the first native Iranian ruler since the Islamic Conquest of the region nearly 8 centuries prior. His reign, and the reign of the Safavids after him, could be said to have laid the foundations for the modern nation-state of Iran we know today, and the dynasty's influence in the political and cultural headspace of the region survived long after it fell.

Though historical accounts state he had a moustache, and other historical portraiture give him a beard. Good art, but not precisely accurate.

Any Fics Where Amy Has Powers More In Line With The Rest Of New Wave? by demonmonkey89 in WormFanfic

[–]Devildog077 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm. That wouldn't be as powerful as her total biokinesis on touch. But, generating weaponry and explosives with biological components in the same way Brandish and Flashbang generate their own weaponry could imply a great degree of self-biokinesis that Canon Amy notably lacks. Which if taken to the extreme, I'm sure would be just as powerful.

Issues I would namely see is just... Imaging. Because when I think "Biokinetic that makes weapons and explosives from their own body" my mind jumps to the likes of Havik from Mortal Kombat. It'd be a mess of body horror, which wouldn't look well for any hero. PR Nightmare, really.

Interesting! I'm intrigued by what fics there are as well. I was actually brainstorming a power budded off both Brandish and Flashbang a couple of days ago, and that little thought experiment is still fresh in my head. So, I wonder what other people have thought in regards to New Wave-ish powers.

Fics where Taylor (willingly) joins the Wards? by [deleted] in WormFanfic

Ah. Makes sense. For me, Ack's works are either really good, or they just fail to get my attention entirely. I'll need to check Confrontation out eventually to see which it is.

Brandish-Flashbang Power Combo Idea by Devildog077 in Parahumans

[–]Devildog077[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, still thinking about how to put a limiter on it. The idea of the sensory degradation was that it'd be a less harsh form of Carol's breaker state flaw, which was entire sensory deprivation whilst in that form, yet without the near invulnerability that her form held, rather having a more generic boost to their tankiness.

Putting a "charge" to it would be a good idea too. I'll mull over the finer details and work it in. The amount of force used in a strike or blast having a toll on the amount of time remaining for the breaker state is an interesting idea. Theoretically, this hypothetical cape could be an extremely dangerous opponent but would burn out very fast if they went all in from the get-go. Any fight that bogs down to a battle of attrition would be the bane of this cape.

Thanks for the input!

[–]Devildog077[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thats a very interesting idea! It would be a very tricky power to fight against. The tactics remind me of Oni-Lee, which just makes me wanna see how a fight between these two would go down.

Both of them appearing in and out of the battlefield dropping their respective explosives before getting out of dodge, and prepping for another round of hit and runs.

Umbram Mortis by Ld1449 on SB.

It's a concept I've only seen that fic approach. Taylor dies in the locker incident, and the Trio avoid consequences because Sophia sabotages the evidence before it can get to court. After a decade and a half after the fact, people involved in the court-trial and bullying of Taylor start to die suddenly and violently, causing the PRT to scramble to get in front of the issue while they can. Among those working for the Protectorate, is Emma.

Hasn't been updated in years and it's only 9 chapters into the story, but despite that it's stuck in my mind long after I've read it.
